The good: Blu-ray player with built-in Google TV; revolutionary Google TV software enables potential access to virtually all online media, with a powerful interface; user interface overlays TV content from cable/satellite box; can control TV, AV receiver, and cable/satellite box with IR blasters; Google search bar looks through both online and offline content; built-in Chrome browser supports Flash and HTML5 video; Android Marketplace coming in 2011.
The bad: Frustrating controller handles neither Google TV or Blu-ray well; major content providers like Hulu, CBS, and ABC are currently blocking Google TV; user interface geared toward power users; Google's "universal" search doesn't search Netflix; antiquated Netflix interface; limited app selection at launch; expensive compared with other Wi-Fi Blu-ray players; doesn't work with older, non-HD TVs.
The bottom line: The Sony NSZ-GT1 combines Google TV and Blu-ray in a single box, but Sony's frustrating controller, the high price, and Google TV's content issues make it a tough sell.

This box seamlessly works with my components
by Holyroller111 on November 27, 2010
Pros: You can still watch full screen TV with the homepage overlaying it,I never saw that in a demo,I thought it would only be on in a small window.
Cons: This would have be the learning curve in using the right thumb pad,I'll talk more about this when i update my review

Summary: After reading reviews of this box I got less anxious to purchase,I almost bought a Vizio TV with Yahoo apps. because of the negative talk of the Google Tv experience, anyway went to Best Buy Black Friday and was surprised to see the logitech and Sony boxes still readily available at 11:00am,Decided on the Sony for the apparently new low price of $299,Well I've been playing all Saturday with it and love it, wanted to share some cool things about it that I didn't know after studying up on these two boxes and eagerly waiting to get one of them.It seems like all day the "spotlight" tab keeps getting more sites up and customized to seamlessly work just for Google Tv,You can easily spend hours at each of these web site stations. there are 16 of them as of today, some give tutorials of how to navigate their site a lot of sites have a lean back feel to them,One site is Clicker Premium Internet Tv once there just start typing with the keyboard anywhere or anytime on the site without a search bar and pop-up boxes appear of whatever show or movie that you want to watch-push enter and your at the show,as you probably heard the big four networks and hulu block you from watching for now, but the site shows you where the feed is coming from so you know not to even bother going to those sites or amazon video, cause they charge for everything.I like the ease of search at Clicker TV because its easier to type here and get to your show or movie faster with no search bar than to go to the dedicated spotlight box of say CNN,TNT,tbs,PBS,HBO,Amazon video, you'll see and understand when you buy this box,and you should buy it,after playing all day I absolutely love this thing- in fact I'll finish this review later, even without the Android marketplace there is plenty to do.

How did I watch T.V. before Google again...
by dpmadis on November 23, 2010
Pros: I dont care how I watched tv before. This is sooooo rad! I cut the cable cord long ago and started saving that $130 per month on a less than $10 Netflix subscription. This is a great addition. If you can text you can use this bad boy. Love it!
Cons: Leaving google tv to go to work. :-(
Summary: Really like the device buying another one for my bedroom. I wish the networks would come around. Some of the apps tempt me to give cable a try (TEAMCOCO!) but, ...

Great Concept! Waiting on Updates
by amoton22 on November 15, 2010
Pros: Blu-Ray, Works well with my Dish Network, the concept of internet thru TV, Pandora, Upcoming Android market, Potential, can be updated to fix problems
Cons: PRICE!!, early bugs need to be worked out, Majority of Apps streaming speed has problems, still early, needs updates bad!, Netflix streaming is BAD! Can't finish a movie on Netflix and I have a great internet service. Youtube is slow. Updates needed
Summary: In all, Great Concept!! It is still early with a lot of problems, but has the potential to be a wonderful product. Best thing to do is to wait it ...
Summary: In all, Great Concept!! It is still early with a lot of problems, but has the potential to be a wonderful product. Best thing to do is to wait it out and wait for google to update the system. For now, the problems I have are minor and can be frustraighting at times, but an update can easily fix majority of the problems. If you are looking to buy, do your research first! This thing isnt cheap to just go out and purchase it with all the bugs, unless you got the money and are like me and don't mind to wait for an update.

So Frustrating, I Gave Up on this Device.

Summary: Live TV is the problem. Occasionally, when I would change channels to a station that was being broadcast in 1080, my tv would start blinking on and off. Tried turning boxes and tv off and on and that would not work. The only thing that worked was unplugging the box, waiting 30 seconds and then rebooting. There is no way I am going to do this every day.
Also, the device has no HDMI pass thru so the box has to be on all of the time even when you dont want to use it. -
Not 3D. Don't buy.
by NYC10024cnet on June 3, 2011
Pros: It's a good idea, but do you really need it? And do you really need to spend $400 on a non-3D Blu-ray player in 2011?
Cons: I bought this as part of an official Sony 3D package, which included a huge 3D LED TV, two pairs of 3D glasses, a 3D Blu-ray disk, a 3D transmitter, and this Blu-ray player.
The problem is that THIS BLU-RAY PLAYER DOES NOT PLAY 3D BLU-RAY DISKS. I cannoSummary: Don't buy. And shame on Sony for bundling a non-3D player in a supposedly 3D bundle.

Doesn't work as advertised
by chex1345 on October 26, 2010
Pros: Bluray player works well.
Cons: 1)No manual !
2)Thumb controlled mouse rarely works.
3) Overall operation is slow.
4)Flash addon frequently crashes
5) Works poorly with Directv
6) Why did Sony make it white? Sticks out like a sore thumb on the video rack.Summary: This device is half baked at best. The remote looks good but works only sporadically. The 1st reviewer must be a Sony employee ! Save your money and get a decent ...

Can't say enough good things about this device
by patness70 on October 20, 2010
Pros: Great price for a full computer with bluray player.
Cons: Still expensive overall when compared to Apple and Roku... Considering what you get it's worth it though.
Summary: I wouldn't hesitate to buy this device. I'd only say it's a waste of money if you are expecting it to do something other that what it ...

Great device, solid construction, smooth design
by techgeeky on October 20, 2010
Pros: BluRay player, great remote, access to the entire internet (except Hulu -- but that's even possible and Hulu + is coming). Love the design -- work great with my cable and internet provider. No more switching of inputs!!
Cons: The lack of apps right out of the box. Certainly what you get for the price beats everything out there and more apps are coming.
I'd like to see an Amazon VOD client app (you can still view Amazon VOD with this) and Hulu + (Also to be coming)Summary: Good all around device. Love just being able to use the internet, tv, apps, etc. without switching inputs, and without a big keyboard in my living room.

Love the fact that it is easy to update and easy/intuitive to use. Sony sure did this right.
When more apps are released through the Android market - not sure what's going to be able to compete. Apple TV doesn't come close to this...0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
