The good: Compact, minimalist design; plays bigger than its size; turns into full-featured alarm clock after you add Altec's Alarm Rock app; GSM-shielded so iPhone can be used without the need to switch it to airplane mode.
The bad: Take away the iPhone app and the Octiv Mini is a basic iPod speaker that's a tad more expensive than it should be; app doesn't automatically launch when you dock your device.
The bottom line: The Altec Lansing Octiv Mini is an ideal option for anyone seeking an affordable, minimalist iPhone speaker for the bedroom, bathroom, or kitchen.

Weak sound, damages your iPhone with no remote :-(

Pros: Looks ok I suppose
Cons: First, I do not know why Alted Lansing continues with these kinds of docks! No remote to control the device = damaged iPhone!

Summary: You have to use your iPhone to control everything on this quaint device. Too many other choices out there in that price range: Logitech, Sony, Phillips, even iHome. Bottom line is it puts your iPhone at risk and the sound is not good enough to warrant 60 bucks...Spend 20-30 more and you get a device from Logitech or iHome that offers stereo and less risk to your device.

I have been asked to be clearer with what I mean by "damaged iPhone". Like many Altec Lansing iPod docks, it offers no support behind your iPhone. When you need to change the song, turn off the alarm, or touch the screen for anything; on this device, you touch it for EVERYTHING, it will eventually damage the connector on the bottom of your iPhone which will not allow in to sync or charge! I apologize for not being clearer.
