I use the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS on my Canon 30D most of the time, and love this lens. It has L class optics, with addition of IS and a wide aperture f/2.8. It works great in low light. It sometimes even beat my EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS. But one disappointing feature is the lack of weather seal and I can see dust inside the lens. The dust did not affect the image quality, but it is not something I like to see after spending $1000.

Got the lens 6 weeks ago. Noting works for me (Blurry photos and IS does not work when wide open - f2.8). Send to Canon for repair two weeks ago and not sure when can get it back and what outcome will be.
