The Leatherman Charge TTi replaces two discontinued Charge tools, the Ti (w/scissors) and XTI (with cutting hook), by combining the features of both. The externally accessible clip-point knife is now made of S30V stainless steel, a grade better than the 154CM stainless used on the Ti/XTi and the new Charge AL/ALX blades. The handles of the TTi, like the Ti and XTi before it, are made of titanium, which is both more durable and slightly lighter weight than the aerospace-grade 6061-T6, heat-treated and hard-anodized aluminum alloy handles on the AL and ALX models. All Charge models use bronze for their bushings to guarantee easy (but not floppy) and consistent tool opening. The outside tools/blades lock individually and securely. All models include a kit containing 8 double-ended bits made of tool steel, and sized from a tiny eyeglass-repair screwdriver up to and including 5/32" hex and 3/16" flat screwdrivers. Pros: Sharpest knife I've ever used in a multitool.Very compact for everything it does.Locks on all of the tools is useful.
Cons:
Summary: I upgraded to this from a basic Leatherman "Sideclip" (basically the Kick model without the rubberized handles)I needed something that would hold a better edge, be able to lock the blades, and be a little sturdier.The Leatherman TTi answered all those issues. The externally accessible blades make it much easier to work with, and being able to lock them open keeps me from having to worry about closing them on my fingers. The large bit driver gives me a few issues with slipping out of phillips-head screws, but the flat blades work fine as well as the additional bits that you can order as an option. The small driver actually works very well. I was afraid of chipping or bending the small bar, but I have confidence in its ability to hold up to some good twisting.The only other issue I've had is that I keep my money clip in the same pocket as the tool. Occasionally when reaching for it, I've brushed the tool and put a nick in the side of my hand. I believe there's a small burr or sharp edge on the side of the tool but I'll file that down later once I find it.Otherwise I'm completely happy with this upgrade. I work in an office and it fits in my business casual dress pants quite well. I was worried about them being too heavy compared to my old Sideclip, but it works out well.
