The good: The Alpine CDE-124SXM combines a SiriusXM Satellite Radio receiver and a decent CD/USB receiver in one value-priced package. The Instant Replay feature can pause live satellite broadcasts for up to half an hour.
The bad: The Instant Replay function doesn't work when the vehicle is powered down, somewhat limiting its usefulness. The extremely basic CD receiver limits system expandability.
The bottom line: The Alpine CDE-124SXM is a great value for those who want to upgrade their car stereo with USB/iPod connectivity while adding very good SiriusXM connectivity.

Lots of listening options with good sound reproduction.

Pros: Allows easy hook-up of most music sources, Mp3, Iphone, etc. Syncs with pandora from the Iphone for easy song selection from your Alpine tuner. Sound quality is very good with plenty of punch for factory speakers or aftermarket replacements.
Cons: Lots of options but one may need to carry the operating manual to access many of the functions. LCD screen could have been arranged to display more information, especially in XM/SERIUS mode. Screen displays in only one color. Controls not logical.

Summary: The CDE 124XM is a versatile CD Player and AM/FM/XM receiver in its price range. I would put this unit up against systems costing two or three times the price of this Alpine for sound quality. However, screen layout and controls are not very logical. If you like to tweek your settings on the road you will need a navigator on board. On the other hand if you like setting and forgetting no problem. Alpine could have done a better job of organizing the screen display. I like to view the song and artist when listening to XM and it's constantly pussing buttons through several screens to do so. I replaced a double din radio with this unit, and in retrospect I would have spent a little more money for a double din with a full display instead of this Alpine with fragmented displays. I had to return my unit after about 8 months for warranty work and turn around was about three weeks. I would recommend this unit for the budget minded who demands quality sound but it could be a challange for the technology challanged.
