Summary: Garmin put together a wonderfull GPS. The mapping is generally right on. Traffic is immediate and responsive. The MSN direct is awesome! Saving money on gas with the nearist gas station feature with the cheapist gas has probably paid for itself already. Movie times are accurate and current another great feature.
The Gps reciever had never once lost reception in the three months I have used the product. I even took it inside my walk in closed and shut the door for ten minutes and came back to it to find it still have all of its satelites. where my older model had zero.
Very easy to mount and unmount. Power cord plugs into the mount rather than the gps so its more of a easy dock station for quick release.
Some routing errors caused for unnessicary delays in route even with no traffic, and some inaccurate mapping but for the most part its dead on.
Good product, would recomend to anyone looking for a gps.10 out of 10 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Just purchased this GPS last week and it is totally great!! It is an upgraded version of the nuvi 660, which I also had. Garmin is the leader in the class. I am the owner of a limo business and have the Nuvi 680's in all of my cars. It is user friendly and very accurate. I shopped around on the internet and I found the lowest price at www.SDcommodities.com 1-718-921-9100 with fast shipping..

Great Product but not a keeper

Summary: I really want to keep this unit because the family loves the FM transmitter for the MP3. I love the Gas Price feature on MSN. I also love the idea that I do not need to plug wires into he unit every time I attach it to the mounting bracket. These are features I am going to miss when I return it, but the reason I purchased a GPS was to get around areas I am unfamiliar with.
Why I am returning this unit.
1. My first issue while in the DC area is the unit recognizing when I am in an HOV lane. It eventually will as I pass Springfield VA. I had programmed the Wal-Mart in Woodbridge VA and traveled the HOV. At first it did not know I was in the HOV and was confused, as it knew I was not on the Highway. It constantly just recalculated. After Springfield it knew I was on the HOV but wanted me to exit at every exit. I knew there were exits closer so I ignored the first few commands. (My only avoidances are unpaved roads) I finally exited and drove 15 minutes through traffic and passed over I95 only upset to find out the Garmin had me exit too early. If I had driven to the next exit I would have avoided the traffic and got to my desination so much faster.
2. Driving into DC I entered the HOV lane. The unit again did not know I was on the HOV lane and had me pass the HOV exit I needed to take in order to exit I395 N. The unit the Garmin replaced was a Magellan and it could differentiate the Highway with the HOV and never failed getting me out of the HOV lane in time to take me were I need to go.
3. I was driving on I270 in Columbus Ohio. The Garmin wanted me to exit and take country roads to my final destination. I grew up in this area and knew if I drove 3 more miles I could take I 71 North to my destination much quicker. If I did not know this area I would have been driving miles in the country to my destination.
4. POIs I liked the Magellan being able to put POI icons on my map. For example my family was visiting and we went into DC. On the Magellan I could check the parking POI and return to my map. It would put parking Icons on the map so I could see all the parking lots in my area. The Garmin cannot do this.
5. For the most part the Garmin will give me plenty of notice if my next turn is a left or right. But sometimes it does not. The Magellan had an arrow telling me if my next turn was left or right even if my next turn was 200 miles away. This feature is great when in a busy city so your not trying to cross three lanes ½ mile from your next turn.
My plan is to try the Tom Tom 720. It has the FM and MP3 player, the POI icons, and the arrow telling me if my next turn is left or right. It does not have the MSN gas prices, which I will really miss. If this unit allows me to select most use of freeways like the Magellan and can differentiate the HOV from the regular highway then I think it will be a keeper. If it does not then I may need to go back to the Magellan. The only down fall with the MSN is how long it takes to update the info. I was traveling through Akron Ohio and had left before the Gas prices had a chance to update.
Hope this helps3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I use this device in my car, both in the US and Europe. You have to pay extra for the non US Maps, but you get a PC version of the maps for free, and its very useful when I travel. Whats more important is that the customer service at Garmin is out of this world. They answer the phone, and emails, and do so quickly. They game the right answer each time, no hassles. They made recommendations that saved me money rather than making them money. If I ever get an other GPS, its going to be Garmin also

What can I say. They all have the same maps the software is basily the same when it comes to the navagation. For the value of the dollar I'd say stick with the 350 and I say that for one reason. The traffic services on the 660 and 680 are not impressive.
I can live without the poi's but I really wanted the traffic to be accurate. First I tried the 660. Not one alert was accurate. it would say traffic and there was none.
I went to purchase a 680 today. 1 out of 2 is an honor at this point. However where it did find an accident there was one but the traffic was moving. The other one was a false alarm. As far as the data base of the poi's it never did me any good. I was better off calling 411 then looking for a store. The navagation is accurate the screen is nice. The few gas stations I went to check the prices out were accurate and it did find the movie theathers with the moives and times so it's at least a better value than the 660. I'm hoping the traffic turns out better than the tmc traffic.
This unit is good if you just use it as a GPS and plug in the exact address you are going to. Please be advised through that the mapping software could be off a little when it comes to the exact location of the house or business you are going to. For example 123 main st. it might take you to 150 main. So when you are on the block look for the addresses by eye. Getting to the destination is great.
I paid the same price for this unit (the 680 and I did for the 660. You do get a bigger bang for the buck on this. however the nuvi 350 without the traffic alert system was the real value because it was affordable and it was good and the whole unit was useful.
I will update further on the 680 as time goes on. I will be selling the 660 on e-bay so... there you have it

Summary: I've been using my nuvi 680 for 2 months in an area I'm not real familiar with. I have to say I don't always get routed the quickest but I always arrive at my intended destination. The MSN service works relatively well. I believe they need to work on providing more timely updates of traffic conditions. I would like to see the FM transmitter be able to break into the current station I’m listening to because it can be difficult at highway speeds to hear the internal speaker with the radio on. If you keep your radio tuned to the radio station just for the nuvi, it gets pretty quite on long road trips. I understand that I’m asking for a capability of those OEM factory installed units but would be nice if Garmin could figure out a better way to transmit the directions over the radio. I would look into the 700 series now that they are out. Overall, very satisfied.

Dissapointing

Having a lot of problems with MSN reception, don't like the fact that the receiver is in the power cable, would like to check traffic as I am going to my car to save time and have my next destination calculated by the time I get in the car. Instead I have to waste precious time. Would like to be able to close the antenna and leave it on the charger in the car to not get 'lost satellite reception' messages when I am sitting in a parking building. Gas prices say '2 days ago' or even '4 days ago'. When turned on takes almost a minute to load maps, wish I could limit the maps loaded to the areas I drive and not the whole country. When I do get traffic signals about an accident ahead I have gotten off the freeway and into worse traffic. Calculated arrival times can be really off by up to twice the time. For somebody that has several destinations a day, it is not the timesaver I hoped. It is odd to hear interstate fourhundred and five instead of four o five; sometimes says S.E. instead of south east.
I have the volume on max and have trouble hearing it at times, the FM transmitter does not work for my car (my antenna is on the trunk), and anyway, I like to listen to the radio while I drive and you can't do both. Haven't even tried the bluetooth cell phone connection because I have a bluetooth headset2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: There's plenty of reviews that explain the good things about this device. Very few mention the one key feature this unit lacks--and for the money--it is disappointing it is not included.
You cannot create your own route to a destination beforehand and save it the Nuvi. To get this feature you have to go to the 760--so if this is important to you, make sure you don't buy this. To get around it you have to create waypoints and go from point to point on your trip.
Makes no sense to me that this feature is not available on a device that costs as much as this one and offers so much functionality.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

A good navigation unit with extras
by chele676 on February 8, 2009
Pros: I love the Audible book feature. The maps are easy to follow. The navigation around the unit itself is very easy.
Cons: Bluetooth STINKS on this unit. The unit won't stay connected to my phone and always disconects and then locks up the unit. I have to constantly load a firmware update sent to me by Garmin to fix the problem only to have it happen again.
Summary: The only problem I have with this unit is the Bluetooth feature. Garmin has yet to get me a permanent fix. So when the Bluetooth locks up the whole unit ...
Summary: The only problem I have with this unit is the Bluetooth feature. Garmin has yet to get me a permanent fix. So when the Bluetooth locks up the whole unit I have to plug it back into my computer and reload this firmware update Garmin sent me. It isn't a permanent fix but it makes the Bluetooth work for a couple of days. It is annoying and with the cell phone law in NJ I really need this feature to work properly.
