try and get any support
by 747122 on November 21, 2010
Pros: it was cheap
Cons: Insignia does not support/the website for updated maps and the 800 customer service line has been down since sept. A trip to Best Buy and they will tell you the same thing
Summary: OK product. NO and I mean NO support through either Insinia or Best Buy....shame on both of them

Poor servce and poor reliablity
by lifenadventure on March 5, 2010
Pros: About the only thing I can say good is that the GPS was easy to use out of the box.
Cons: Poor service from manufacture (Best Buy), Geek Squad (Best Buy) and Best Buy technical support. Product showed not reliablility.

Summary: Item came with one year of service. Eveytime I asked for service in person the Geek Squad technicians looked at it as if was some foreign object. Out of 4 visits to my "local" Best Buy I was only receive service once because they did not know what to do.
When I went to renew connection I was told that by "in person" service that I had to do it on the internet and they could not give me any directions for it. When I finally located the web site for renewal it did not work... for three months.
Renewal finally was processed the but GPS has failed to connet and Best Buy does not know how to give me my money back for the service. The product has failed with light use in jsut a little over a year and the support service behind it is criminal. -
Poor on Directions
by jisaac on November 22, 2009
Pros: Great features. The Google search alone is good for the price of the unit. The battery life is good, the programming process is good, the Bluetooth has been acceptable. For these items I really like this GPS.
Cons: Really bad on directions. I rarely get to my destination. i come relatively close, but end up searching for my address. I thought at first it was a fluke, but I cannot trust the unit to get me to my destination. Close is not enough.
Summary: Features are outstanding, but if you do not get to your destination, what's the point. i cannot recommend what could be an exceptional GPS. If it would only get ...

Good overall
by chicaxicana75 on March 7, 2009
Pros: This device is pretty simple to set up and use and it came with everything I needed and only lacked the case. You can easily connect it to your bluetooth enabled phone to use the Google search and live traffic features.
Cons: The bluetooth speaker system on the device is lousy, you can't hear much of anything. I bought a bluetooth speaker & I have to use one or the other--the device will not update traffic or allow me to search if my phone is connected to the speaker.
Summary: I still think it is a great device overall for the price (I also only paid $125 for it during a Best Buy sale).

What lacks in bells and whistles is made up by features
by Boomn4x4 on December 30, 2008
Pros: Internet connectivity, It alows you do preform google searches for locations. It also connects to gasbuddy.com to find fuel prices. And it also searches for traffic conditions and reroutes if there is congestion.
Cons: Graphics quality are way behind the competition. There is an occasional lag in response from the touch screen. Car charger is a spring coil, it can get in the way of dashboard controls. Text to speach is functional, but mispronounces simple words.
Summary: There display and interface of this unit are lacking, pretty bad, compared to comparitivly priced products on the market, the graphics are several years behind. It also lacks many informational ...
Summary: There display and interface of this unit are lacking, pretty bad, compared to comparitivly priced products on the market, the graphics are several years behind. It also lacks many informational type things such as speed, elevation, and a progressive turn by turn list of directions (it has turn by turn, but it always starts at the first turn even if you are 30 turns into the trip). Another big feature that it lacks is an auto shutoff. Also, the cord is one of the spring coil type cord. When stretched its plenty long enough, but you may have to stretch it across your console where it will interfere with radio and climate controls.
With all of the being said, where it lacks in bells and whistles, it more than makes up for it in the functionality of the features it does have, primarily the built in cellular modem for Internet connectivity. The google search is a feature that once you have, you will never want to give up, even if it means dragging the cord across the dash and have Atari like graphics. Unlike most units that go by an internal database, this unit goes out to google and searches for what ever you can think of. You want to find a car wash, library, or even a specific no-name diner this GPS will find it and give you directions. If you can think of it, the GPS can search for it.
Another great feature of this unit is the ability to receive directions via Google Maps. When you setup the unit you create an email address for the unit. You can then send addresses to your GPS from any computer using Google Maps. I have found this unit to be very usefull when researching restraunts on the Internet. I will search through resturant reviews on a computer and when I find one that looks good, all I have to do is copy/paste the address into google and click on send then select gps then type my GPS's email address and by the time I get in my car, the directions will be on my unit. My wife has also used it when I am on the road and she needs something. Instead of her giving me an address to type in while I am on the road, she can simply send the directions to the GPS, then call me (on the GPS) and tell me what she needs.
With the Internet capability, you also get the ability to connect go gasbuddy.com and get current gas prices at all the gas stations you can ask for. This particular feature has been, for the most part, very accurate however it does rely on gasbuddy being accurate. I have found instances where it was off, but since some gas stations are always cheaper than others, even if the price was wrong, it still pointed me to the station that had the lowest price.
Also available is traffic updates. These traffic conditions are only for major cities and major freeways, but the accuracy does seem to be good. It checks for updates every 5 mintues and I have been saved by this feature on more than one occasion. If traffic is anticipated on your route, the unit will notify you and give you suggestions for alternate routes if they will shorten your trip.
The hands free bluetooth that is built into this unit is also a nice feature. I was initially disapointed with it being as the speaker volume of the phone (the GPS unit was plenty loud) was very quiet, even on the maximum setting. After contacting both the manufacture of my phone and Insignia, it was determined that my older phone only had a profile for a headset, and not an external speaker therefor did not pair well with the GPS unit. Its still useable, however I must turn the radio down and roll up the windows to hear it.
I looked at this unit a few months ago when it first came on the market, it was initiall ypriced at $500. If had baught the unit then, I would have suggested that the unit was WAY over priced and not worth the purchase. However, the unit is now priced at $150 and is very well priced. Another thing to note is that the Internet capabilities are free for 1 year and will be a subscription after that. According to Insignia, the anual subsription will be $99.
In conclusion, if you can sacrifice some poor graphics and a lack of some of the extras you would find on other units, you will be more than happy with what the Internet connected features make up for with this unit. -

Summary: I bought this GPS because it was "supposed" to be the new thing. The tpuch screen doesnt work, the speaker sound quality stinks and you cant undersatdn what it is saying. When getting to your destination it lacks the tech to tell you what side its on. This GPS lack all teh basics my three year old GPS has. When i took it backBest Buy had a sleau of them on the back counter returned. If you read teh reviews on the web telling you all the downfalls they are 100% correct. Anyone who likes this thing never had a good GPS.
