Good sound not enough Brightness adjustment
by 509thMark on July 21, 2010
Pros: Music sounds good.
Screen is crisp and clear.
Navigation works well.
Blue tooth works wellCons: No Adjustment for navigation brightness (just day and night mode) its far to bright at night.
The other Modes/features do not go dim enough at night either but not a bad as the Navigation Mode.Summary: This DNX6160 works well but its extreme brightness at night severely hampers an otherwise excellent unit.
Maybe the next generation will address the brightness issue.

Since the review I have talked to Kenwood support about the brightness issue and they told me it was preset by Gamin.
Maybe the next generation will address the brightness issue.

In actual fact there are brightness adjustments for the navigation and the whole unit, they are just very hard to find by following the supplied instructions.
To adjust the brightness to work with the dimmer of you car you need to make adjustments by first selecting your source then either pressing the FNC button and making brightness, screen adjustments or depending on the source go into the tools icon on the top of the screen and make the adjustments under Display.
I would increase my rating of this product to a 4 out of 5 stars but not a 5 due to the complicated instructions that are to difficult to follow clearly. You will figure it out but through trial and error and more than a few hours of seeing what each button and feature does.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Nice unit but lacking.
by rrrprod on December 19, 2010
Pros: The radio section sounds good. You can set the audio different for AM and FM. It has quite a number of useful options. The navigation is good though the voice reminders can get a little annoying at times. This unit is NOT for the uninitiated.
Cons: The first and biggest con was the salesman at Best Buy said it would do A2DP blue-tooth.IT DOESN'T!!!! Would have been a deal killer for me had I know that at the time of purchase!
Summary: No A2DP blue-tooth,(Shame on you Kennwood for saying it does, fix it with a software update!) can't figure out how to get the phone to work with voice. ...
Summary: No A2DP blue-tooth,(Shame on you Kennwood for saying it does, fix it with a software update!) can't figure out how to get the phone to work with voice. Droid-X is a compatible phone. Klunky screen interface. Takes several seconds at times to recognize a button push. Other times the button lights recognizing the push but the unit never responds. The manual is poorly written. The 20 second initial boot isn't a big issue for me. The Garmin seems to work well. The Radio and EQ audio section are ok. Over all not a bad unit but approaching $1K one would think the touch screen interface would operate much more smoothly and it would have A2DP blue-tooth capability. After owning an Alpine CDA9885 with a crappy distorted analog radio section both AM & FM (HD Radio and AUX audio were fine) and a Craig RAX300 with an excellent FM tuner (great selectivity and sensitivity, this is my first Kenwood. They're going to have to do a bit better than this to win me over for my next purchase.

Incredible Feature set. Powered up-graded JL Audio's.
by abacodan on December 17, 2010
Pros: Unit was upgrade from factory system in Ford F-150. Replaced dash mounted Garmin unit. Initial reaction is this unit is an incredible bundle of technology. Very intuitive operation. Set up phone completely and activated Sirius within minutes.
Cons: Package did not indicate lack of initial connectivity with steering wheel volume control. Apparently need additional adapter. Only flaw so far.
Summary: Although a new user, initial reaction is tremendous value here.

Great Unit - Easy Navigation - Excellent Sound -
by BarkBob5 on September 16, 2010
Pros: Flip between functions with ease. Intuitive and smart layout. Lot of amazing features. Powers my all Alpine system beautifully.
Cons: Navigation voice is dull and repetitive, just turn it off. Requires specil cord (not just SUB input) for IPOD playback (audio AND video)
Summary: Just replace my "top of the line" Pioneer unit. Garman navigation is the best. Would pit this with any head unit for the price on quality, features, and ease of ...

Great Unit for Dual DIN cars / trucks
by Explorick on July 28, 2010
Pros: Great all in one unit
Cons: Start up 20 - 30 seconds less, cannot play videos one after another one. Only if same band/singer/group.

Summary: I wanted a GPS in car, (I travel all the time in town) I bought a Honda Civic and I install the unit. I bought: dash kit, harness, antenna adapter and ITOCH adapter ($160.00 on top of the unit price). I install the unit in about 4 to 5 hours. I started the unit, setup was fast. I did not like the brightness of the unit, but a look at the other user and fix was done. I was able to update the GPS with the micro-SD slot in the unit. Radio is ok reception is due to car antenna. DVD playing is good but menu is kind of confusing at first. I used my ITOUCH for music and videos, I have been looking for a solution to play only videos without going out to find the next video (just like at the ITOUCH if is a video it plays the song and you can see the video). GPS has a great tracking for gas, screen touch is fast, address look up is fast, looking for gas stations / food and ATM it was a great tool for me. Audio controls are very good, the equalizer is for experience users (I am still trying to find the frequencies and levels). Bluetooth was easy to setup, I was able to have my wife help me with the noise reduction and the microphone level setup. I do have a Sony MEX-BT5100 (I will post the review later) with my Blackberry Storm (1st generation) and I can stream my music as A2DP but not with this unit (not a big deal). Last but not least been able to change the color, background and used the USB to load backgrounds is a plus. I will post updates later when I install HD radio adapter and backup camera for the car (Maybe).

Good Unit--Great Sound--No Updated Maps.
by enfuegophil on April 28, 2011
Pros: Alot of different options. I love how it looks in my vehicle. It works great with my back-up camera.
Cons: It takes a while to really figure out how to use everything. The biggest CON of this unit is that you cannot update the maps. I have had this unit for over a year and I am still unable to update the maps. After numerous times talking with Garmin Technicia
Summary: I would not reccoment this unit simply because of the inablity to update maps. I love everything else about it, but without map updates this unit is quickly out-dated!
