Great product at a great price!
by wingsrl on September 19, 2010
Pros: Very fast response time connecting to the satellites. Very quick when rerouting to a destination. Great deal with lifetime maps and lifetime traffic. Does a great job with lane assist. The chime is very helpful when approaching your turn.
Cons: Would have been nice if the unit displayed speed limit and current speed at all times. Another fun feature is downloading other vehicles or voices, not a necessity though. Hard to see unit in direct sunlight, need to darken.

Summary: This is a wonderful unit. I have owned at least 7 Garmin units over the past 13 years. They are really pushing out the units but quality control is at a worst. I recently returned 3 units due to powering on and off issues. Customer service for Garmin blamed the retail store yet hundreds of people had complained online experiencing the same problems. Their customer service agent finally admitted they had recalled many units but that didn't help me. Their customer service left a lot to be desired so I thought I would try Magellan. I purchased the Roadmate 3045-LM at Best Buy for $169.00. What a bargain for a unit with traffic and Map updates free for life. This is a current sale, $50 off the original price. The unit lacks the customization that the Garmin offered, different voices and vehicles. The Garmin unit also has a more polished looking map. You definitely pay for these features with Garmin. I wanted a nice unit that wouldn't freeze up or turn on and off at the blink of an eye. The Magellan unit has worked wonderful so far. The unit powers on quickly and connects to the satellite much quicker than any Garmin I had owned. The routing and rerouting is also twice a as quick. Another plus is the lane assist. The Magellan is much better when in route. The Garmin would hardly ever detail the exits, unless in a large city. The Magellan does this no matter where I am and for every exit. One thing I miss is the current speed driven and the speed limit for the road displayed at all times. Perhaps this will be added someday. Overall if you are looking for a reasonably priced unit with good POI, stability, traffic, map updates, etc....this unit is for you.

Good, but breaks down a lot!
by cdc81 on August 30, 2011
Pros: Big screen. You can see if your turn is coming up with much ease. Reliable in navigation like any Magellan GPS has; I rarely get lost because I have Magellan, not like Tom Tom.
Cons: Breaks down easily. This is the second time my GPS broke down. The map starts by saying my route cannot be calculated, even if Google Maps say it's only 15 minutes away from my location. Then it doesn't show the map at all. It can be fixed though by updat

Summary: I really like Magellan compared to other GPS, but this big Magellan GPS breaks down a lot! My small Magellan GPS, which I gave to my dad, has never broke down, and that has been with me for 3 years already! This bigger Magellan GPS has only been with me for a year, and it broke down twice already.

Fair, but could be better
by rtw-nj on August 17, 2011
Pros: Never left me lost except for recent construction that re-routes roads. Reasonably fast. Good map coverage. Only fair store/point of interest coverage.

My cons post got cut off. Here's what I meant to say
Updated on Aug 17, 2011
Manual routes (for example, to avoid known bottlenecks or road construction) can only be entered as a series of destinations. Once entered, the device only shows the map and turn list to the next intermediate destination, not the total trip. Also, the mileage to complete and estimate arrival time are for that point, not the total trip. Very frustrating!
Like all GPS, when a road has recently been rebuilt over a significantly different route, the device shows me in an open field with no roads and no hints for getting back on track. -
Unlimited map updates and unlimited traffic information
by amlouden on April 7, 2011
Pros: Easily gives me the fastest or shortest routes very accurately.
Cons: Some times the navigator will pass up a house number, or gives you the wrong direction on the street in which you are looking for a house number. Sometimes the traffic feature does not always work.
Summary: Great GPS to have if you use it as a delivery driver. The special functions like traffic information, AAA location identification, and map updates are very handy. A great upgrade ...

I'm liking it so far.
by rayfromauburn on March 17, 2011
Pros: acquired sats very fast. way too easy to use, didn't even glance at manual. appears to be very accurate. adjusts accordingly.
Cons: doesn't charge by usb when hooked to cpu and on ac charger included.
Summary: have never been a fan of auto gps, but so far this is changing my mind!

Very nice unit
by vvcougar71 on November 24, 2010
Pros: Acquires satellites quickly. Nice screen and nice sice. Pretty darn accurate. Easy to use once learned. Lifetime traffic and I bought the LM version with life time maps. Automatic shutdown when car is shut off with an option to remain on.
Cons: Need to buy a power cord for home charging. No big deal. Amazon has them for less then $2. I bought two at that price. Need to download instruction manual. But that may be a positive. Easy to do and it saves on paper.

Summary: I like this unit for the nice screen color and size, ease of use, lifetime traffic with no special cord. If your car power cord breaks use any cord that fits. I use the one from Magellan and from my older Mio. Both work and traffic is built into the unit. It seems to be very accurate. Maps seem up to date. Voice is good. AAA tourbook, 6 million POI's. The mount is simple and works great. I've had it for about 2 months and take it with me and test it out going different places about 3 times a week. Always gets me where I'm going with no problems although not always my favorite way to go. But then I know the short cuts in my area. Once or twice it took me a better way then I would have gone. It has the basics but not too many extras. There is no way to download new voices or vehicle icons. Not a big deal though I do like the British accent on my Mio gps. No bluetooth but I won't use a phone while driving. No downloading of geo tagged pictures to route to like the Mio. In bright sunlight screen can wash out as do many other GPS units. This unit is very responsive when typing in directions. One thing I wish it had but doesn't is a sign showing the speed limit of the streets you are driving on. But alas I will live without that. Overall I thought this unit would be more complicated to use but it's really very simple. I am really pleased with about 80% of this unit and wish it had a couple of extra features like speed limit and geo taged photo downloads. I read other reviews where people complained about it being hard to register this product. I am anything but a teckie and found it effortless to register. The power cord for home charging that's not included is no big deal. Get one or two at Amazon for under $2 a piece. I did. I have yet to take it on a long trip but feel secure in it's ability. What I can't say for sure is how it's durability is. If I get 4 years out of it I will feel it was a steal. I paid $169 for the lifetime map version so I figure that's like 4 new units for the price of one. If you're looking for all the bells and whistles this isn't the unit. But if you're looking for a basic unit that gets you where your going as simply as possible this is a good basic unit. One last thing. I like the fact it gives you four route choices with every entry and a multi trip option.

I bought this new from best buy. lasted only 3months!
by yomahmah2003 on November 15, 2010
Pros: was easy to see, that's about it...
Cons: only lasted a few months! Manufacturer warranty in place. Customer service lasted for days! they couldn't understand me and I couldn't understand them! Call center in India? They sent me the wrong unit back twice! Then wouldn't talk to me.
Summary: Poor quality, didn't last long. Didn't update like it was supposed to. Poor customer service. Finally got US phone nummber and they made excuses that they were changing ...
Summary: Poor quality, didn't last long. Didn't update like it was supposed to. Poor customer service. Finally got US phone nummber and they made excuses that they were changing satelite providers. The first replacement unit, was the wrong one. Ater calling and emailing them for another week, they said satellite providers were changing. Then a week later, they sent an email, my proper unit was in and download a label to mail the incorrect one back. I received the new unit, and it was the wrong one again. Both units they sent were much cheaper units than the original I bought. I emailed them twice and received no response. I am keeping both cheaper units.I deserve it. Poor quality merchandise and poor service. I won't buy their products again......Hope that made sense....
