  It's more or less the same as my Roadmate 1470 model.

  Pros: This unit comes with Lifetime Map upgrades & Traffic Alerts versus having to purchase (at a high price) the map upgrades and a Traffic Link cable as I did with my Roadmate 1470. The 5" screen is nice & bright.

  Cons: I'm disappointed that I can't even download a manual from Magellan's website that explains how to use the various features and settings. The User Handbook that came in the box only gives you a brief overview of the unit & totally lacks usage details.

  Summary: I only went with another Magellan GPS unit for my car because the extended warranty I had purchased from Best Buy on my first unit allowed me to get it for free after it would no longer boot up to the menu screen after 18 months of light useage. I was hoping that I could use the Traffic Link cable that I purchased directly from Magellan for the Model 1470 on this new model but a redesign of the cradle that holds it upright prevents me from being able to insert the cable. I have no idea if the "Traffic Alerts" feature on the new unit will provide the same functions as I received from the Traffic Link cable on my first unit because there is no documentation available regarding what/how the "Traffic Alerts" feature works. The lack of a comprehensive Users Guide for this Model 5045-LM prevents me from recommending it to others.
