Motorola MotoNav TN765t price range: $173.95
- Reviewed by: Antuan Goodwin
- Reviewed on: 03/18/2010
The good: The MotoNav TN765t features updated hardware and an innovative new interface that combines the map and the menus. Bluetooth hands-free calling (with address book sync and voice dial), text-to-speech, and free FM-traffic reception are welcome additions to the MotoNav feature set. The MotoExtras service is a clever way to add data connectivity by using a Bluetooth-paired phone's antenna to transmit.
The bad: The MotoExtras data service isn't always on, so it must be manually refreshed for the latest info. GPS tracking in skyscraper-dense urban areas is a bit sketchy.
The bottom line: The MotoNav TN765t has a robust feature set that is on par with that of more-established brands and a beautiful interface that is, in many ways, superior.

Too many steps
by erhoads on June 1, 2010
Pros: LOTS of Features!! : traffic, fuel, Points of Interest, Google search, 3D street level.
Cons: 1) battery gets hot.
2) I need to tap 3-4x on a small arrow to find the turn by turn directions.
3) Saving a favorite is not easy
4) the window attachement is big and bulky and not good for travel in my PC bag.Summary: Gadget king or queen? Get it if you can stand the multi steps. Just want directions that work? Get a Garmin.

Summary: product constantly switched to the promo screen with loud music touting the features of the unit while it was giving turning instructions then had to re enter destination, this occured every 4-5 minutes during the trip, was ready to toss it out the window.the volume was too low even on max setting for driving instruction, phone dropped calls, didnot display street name i was traveling on,was difficult to enter info/destinations,unit has alot of nice features but only some are easy to use and access during a trip, was very dis appointed in the product, had to return, the product may just had too much in it for all to work well together, will purchase another garmin with less features.

Stopped working after one day.
by eshughes on May 25, 2010
Pros: Beautiful screen
Cons: Sunlight heat build up killed the unit when car was parked for 30 minutes.
Summary: Any device made to be placed in a windshield should resist heat enough to allow a visit to a fast food restaurant.

Clunky interface is MUCH harder to enter addresses than Garmin. This unit couldn't even show the correct address of my home within 200 yards when parked in the driveway. Sent it back for refund . Wait it is not ready for prime time yet.Buy garmin and save yourself a headache4 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Some very important features LACKING
by Kaze12 on May 14, 2010
Pros: Very nice display. Great colors and well designed case.
Cons: The Motonav does not display the street you are currently on. At all. Roads can turn and twist, and become different streets. This GPS will constantly show you driving on a blank line. So you better have a good memory if you need help,

Summary: I bought this GPS based on the CNET review. First time I have ever been very disappointed by a CNET review. The voice command is terrible! I pronounced everything very clearly and loudly. So did my wife. Over half the time it provided off the wall results that didnt even come close to what either of us said. We dont have accents or anything that would hamper or make voice recognition more difficult.
The voice command feature was one of the most important features to me.
The other astounding thing to me is what I listed in the cons. The road you are driving on is never labeled with a street name. EVER!. It displays every street around you, and upcoming cross streets, but not the street you are on. So, lets say you drive through an unfamiliar area and have car trouble. The street you drove down may have made twists and turns and could have gone through several name changes, of which the MOTONAV would NEVER have displayed or told you about.
You could tell the tow truck or ambulance what the cross street ahead is, or maybe the streets to the sides are, but not the street you are ON. Absurd.
If you want voice command activation and what to know where you are at a particular moment, without having remember every street you turn onto, dont get this GPS.3 out of 6 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good, but not great
by BillFrazee on January 11, 2012
Pros: Navigation, once set up, is great. Display is bright, and colors are distinct. Easy to read. Directions are clear, and having street names announced is a major plus.
Cons: Setting up the route requires multiple steps as it is not user friendly. Tip: store all destinations as "favorite". The instruction booklet references a "micro USB wall charger" on page 22. A wall charger is not included nor does Motorola sell one.
Summary: It is a good value for the price, works well once the destination is set up.

Nice features, POOR NAVIGATION, Out Of Date Maps
by stagmie on December 30, 2011
Pros: Bluetooth connectivity with my phone, very bright and large display, very nice graphics
Cons: It's Dec. 30, 2011 now. No map updates since 2009. Very poor navigation. It try's routing me through loop driveways and trys to carry me miles out of my way just to stay on a more major road.
Summary: This is a piece of crap. My old Garmin StreetPilot C330 is a much finer GPS than this. And I just loaded the 2012 update to the Garmin. The MotoNav ...

WOW!!! We just raved about this choice our entire trip!
by MrDan2u on December 5, 2011
Pros: The wide aspect minimizes blocking of view while maximizing useful information at all times. Love the Bluetooth hands-free calls and Google search! Just took a 300+ mile self-guided tour of 17 Ohio wineries and enjoyed every minute.
Cons: Out of 25 destinations it told us 2 were on the opposite side of the road. The voice prompt "Where am I" feature merely switched to map mode and gave us the lat and long. I think it should give an address or route and mile marker.

Summary: Some reviews said it was too complicated but I would say it is feature rich and if you don't ant to use the extra features you would not have to. We had it out of the box, installed and were pointed to our first destination within minutes. There were a few times we asked "wonder how we..." but each time we figured it out without documention in less than a minute. One reviewer warned not to upgrade but I found this proceedure to be hastle-free after logging into my PC as administrator.
Easily found lodging, a music store, big and tall mens clothing store and a pharmacy.
Warning: Only 20% of phones in 2010 support bluetooth texting. Our phones are several years old and did not but the hands-free calling features work well.
Shop Early: Motorolas are not as easy to find in brick and mortar stores so you may have to pay more if you can't wait for shipping. We found our at Sears.

A GPS with bells & whistles at a competitive price.
by zinlou on October 15, 2011
Pros: Easy operation - just touch the screen and you can intuitively navigate from screen to screen. I love the split screen with the ability to see the map in several different views and also see a screen to point out points of interest, mileage & time to
Cons: The audio for receiving directions is a bit quiet even with the volume on max. The voice feature to find a destination does not interpret commands well, but with continued use, this feature became more accurate. Everything else works wonderfully.

Summary: I purchased the MotoNav TN765t after reviewing the CNET review. After I made the purchase online, I read the reader reviews and worried I made the wrong decision and went out and immediately purchased a TomTom 550 xxl. The TomTom arrived before the MotoNav and I quickly fell in love with the TomTom. When the MotoNav arrived, it stayed in the box for a few weeks - thinking it wasn't worth my time and effort. I finally decided to give it a try. Boy was I wrong to think that it would be inferior to the TomTom. The MotoNav was just as easy to set-up and had so many more features that surpassed my expectations. I don't understand the less than stellar reviews by other consumers. I couldn't be more pleased with my MotoNav. I am giving the TomTom to my daughter and keeping the MotoNav for me. If you are looking for a GPS with more bells & whistles than a basic TomTom or Garmin, then this is a device that deserves a chance. The price is competitive for all the features you get with the MotoNav TN765t and is far below comparative devices that offer similar features. I am very pleased with the MotoNav and am glad I gave it a chance.

It's so easy! This replaces my Garmin and I am happy!
by rixrox on June 4, 2011
Pros: Beats my Garmin C580 and the Escort iQ. I use this in combo with my Escort Passport Redline. Best GPS and RD combo on the planet IMHO. Fast SAT acquisition great graphics Outstanding user interface. Best I have ever seen. Comes up with alternate routes. T
Cons: My biggest complaint is: It is Different than the Garmin but that is not a con. In fact there are NO cons that I can think of.

Summary: The only thing better than a Motonav is......well, not made yet?! This unit replaces my Garmin c-580. My Garmin was great and I loved it.This unit is way cheaper way more features and spot on navs. Best bang for the buck Spend some quality time getting to know this unit. It will be worth your while. Don't go by the reviews on this one. Once you get used to it, it is fabulous to use. Yes, it is different than a Garmin but when you get over tat you will see how much better the Motonav really is. Way pleased with my purchase price too.
