It's like someone is playing a joke on consumers!
by rjchero on December 29, 2008
Pros: Large screen; text to speech
Cons: It gives absolutely incorrect directions. It says to get on I-94/I-80 on the right side of Torrence ave, when it was moved to the left five years ago. It told me to turn down a dark dead end street rather than the expressway one block further.
Summary: The voice map told me to exit the expressway (I-80), drive through a town for four miles and get on another expressway I-394 and merge onto I-57 and then to ...
Summary: The voice map told me to exit the expressway (I-80), drive through a town for four miles and get on another expressway I-394 and merge onto I-57 and then to I-80! Why? Another time, it repeatedly told me to exit the expressway several exits and cities too soon. When I refused to get on I-80 East to head to Chicago on the right side of Torrence and instead got on 80/94 West on the left side of Torrence, it told me to exit at every point for miles. When I did exit to get toll money and then started to get back on, it told me to make a U-turn, so I could drive to the opposite end of town and get on 394 which would then take me back to I-80.
It tells me to go four blocks north of my home and then back south, and finally, it tells me to pass my house and enter from the street behind it rather than in front of it. It lead me down a dark, dead end street when the expressway I need was one block further. When I visited my daughter at college, it literally had me pass the expressway entrance and head to the other end of town to take it there - and no, I am not mistaken - it was the same expressway. I nearly threw the thing out the window so many times in frustration before I finally returned it three weeks later. Customer service was disinterested in the extreme geographical mistakes in their mapping routes and to add insult to injury, they even put out a note on their website that they couldn't honor the 20 dollar rebates so don't try to cash them. It is much safer to have nothing, rather than have this defective product.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

maps outdated not enough points of interest
by nagel588 on December 2, 2008
Pros: Screen size, ease of use
Cons: Outdated maps. Don't really care for the text recognition, only allows you to put in certain characters and if you don't know the exact street - you are stuck!

Summary: Points of interest for our area are outdated, some as much as three years and we just bought this system. Website not very helpful, cannot find out how to update maps. Cannot believe this GPS system has NO Harely Davidson dealers. Very dissapointed in the Points of Interest, cannot find many things in our own area!

Great Product. Excellent Value.
by sec0nd_st0ry on December 30, 2008
Pros: -Big, bright screen
-Very user friendly (touch screen, computer help w/street names)
-Text to speech works well (wide volume range, next turn announced far enough in advance)
-Maps are current (even shows outlines of parks/hospitals/bodies of water)Cons: -Short battery life (not really a problem, because the car charger is included and can be connected during use)
-POI list could be more comprehensive (once again, not that big of a deal...just input an address/POI that's near where you're going)Summary: Maybe the unit has outdated maps for other areas, but it has worked perfect for me in the Cincinnati/N. KY area and when traveling to Indianapolis. This thing has ...
Summary: Maybe the unit has outdated maps for other areas, but it has worked perfect for me in the Cincinnati/N. KY area and when traveling to Indianapolis. This thing has features that you can only find in $400-$500 units! It really is a great buy, and I wish there were more reviews to stir up some buzz. Don't be afraid to purchase just because it's not a name-brand device. It does more than you'll ever need in a GPS.

Barely Functional.
by fluttervale on February 26, 2011
Pros: For the most part, it got me where I wanted to go.
Cons: Outdated maps. Outdated speed limits. Randomly turned the voice off. Got stuck in a loop. Did not find "nearest" points-of-interest readily.
Summary: Bought it because I was in a city that doesn't have a grid layout. Started out fine. Then, after being told to go "5.5 miles," the voice turned ...
Summary: Bought it because I was in a city that doesn't have a grid layout. Started out fine. Then, after being told to go "5.5 miles," the voice turned itself off. I discovered this after going 7 or so miles. Then I got stuck in a loop where it had me going around the same block. On the way home, it tried to advise me to skip toll booths in Illinois ("Stay left!" "Stay left!" when it was required to go right to pay the toll.) It had me get into the local lane after being in the express lane, and I could've easily stayed in the express lane. The speed limits posted do not always match the speed limit that the GPS shows. (Real speed limits were higher so no tickets.) It did not always find the nearest location of a chain store, instead sending me across town. I didn't "need" a GPS to get home so it was more to try it out, and it's not worth what I paid. I could've done better with a map.
I've had it 2 days and it will go back tomorrow. -
I LOVE THIS GPS
by GREGBAUGHER on December 17, 2010
Pros: TAKES ME WHERE I AM GOING, REMEMBERS ADDRESSES I HAVE PUT IN SO I DON'T HAVE TO IMPUT THEM AGAIN WHEN GOING BACK, I LIKE BETTER THAN MY MIO. VERY EASY & SIMPLE TO USE. ALSO HAS A LOUD SPEAKER, VERY EASY TO HEAR EVEN W/ RADIO ON. I WOULD RECOMMEND.
Cons: TAKES ABOUT 2 - 3 MINUETS TO FIND SATELLITE SIGNEL OTHER THAN THAT I LOVE IT
Summary: SCREEN ALOWS YOU TO ZOOM IN & OUT, HELPS YOU LOCATE OTHER LAND MARKS WHEN CONFUSED ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE. WONDERFUL UNIT, WORKS WELL & I AM HAPPY WITH MINE....

Defective product, horrible customer service.
by gpsuser5 on November 22, 2010
Pros: cheap. Paid 91.00 at Belk
Cons: Not worth the $91.00.
The software is slow, frequently unresponsive, causing a reset often.
Many addresses are is the system under incorrect names (Summer Field, vs Summerfield)
the screen shatters if pressed in the corner by the stylus.Summary: Not worth the $91.00. Though it may get you from A to B, the address inputting is torturous. Worse, mounted on a pressure stem to the windshield, the Q4 ...
Summary: Not worth the $91.00. Though it may get you from A to B, the address inputting is torturous. Worse, mounted on a pressure stem to the windshield, the Q4 becomes sluggish when the sun is on it, and unresponsive. Using the stylus may break the screen, (it did mine) and voila! no warranty.
Customer service is awful. I spent over an hour just trying to register online- the safety characters were undecipherable, and unreloadable (That last seems to have changed.)
Finally, the screen is unreadable unless straight on- unlike other GPSs, which can be read by both driver and navigator.
But the killer is unreliability. When I was lost and needed the gps, it froze. I reset it and it froze again. I repeatedly pressed the buttons with my thumb, then pulled the stylus, reset again and tried using just the stylus. Pressing on the corner broke the screen. It never unfroze. How would you know you pressed too hard? I am a patient fellow, and a computer geek, so I understand these things, usually. I didn't use excessive force. But the screen broke, and customer service refused to honor the warranty.
Do yourself a favor, do not buy this at any price. This one is just plain bad. -
I loved the features.

Pros: TTS setting tells you street names over speaker. Great screen , bright colors, Upgradable to new maps. One year manufacturer warranty , Great customer service through nextar .
Cons: Dropped mine after six months of having , screen started rolling on me . My fault by dropping , Nextar had me send it in under warranty got it repair for me free, so it all worked out in the end for me .
Summary: Very easy to use , Must put setting "tts" so it will pronounce streets, Great looking screen, with clear audio. Very happy with this unit.

Summary: I bought this knowing my daughter would be driving to Detroit to see a play. To her horror dispite what is advertised on the box, it doesnt say the street names (TTS). It says "turn left in 1000 feet" and if there are 3 streets, you wont know which one to turn onto unless you take your eyes off of the road to look at the GPS. Even my 5 year old GPS will ding when you are supposed to turn but not the Nextar. I bought this thing to get her from point A to point B safetly. Without Text to Speech you might be better off just printing if off from Mapquest.
This thing is going back.
