The good: Feels good when wearing on back; very deep compartments.
The bad: Not enough smaller pockets; less-than-attractive design; strangely placed rear snack compartment.
The bottom line: The Spyder's a well-padded, comfortable backpack that can hold a 17-inch laptop securely, but the bulky design and lack of smaller pockets limit its use.

Summary: I'm not a bag aficionado, but I do know what I like and what fits my needs. I think this bag is a great departure from the hum-drum, typical boring backpacks out there. The rubber outer pattern is cool looking and distinctive and I get loads of compliments on the looks of this bag. Very roomy..excellent quality and it fits my 17" Dell (it's a beast). I think this bag is great. I also really like the hand pad that cushions the bag against my back.
Summary: I have to disagree with Scott's impression of the bag. I've had this bag for nearly a year and I love it. I was using a targus bag prior to this slappa bag, but it didn't have enough padding for my liking. I then went to a swiss army bag but that bag was a bit too clumsy with regards to all the internal sections. I really like this bag because it has open space that gives me the flexibility to store books for school, or sneakers and a change of clothes. And I definitely disagree with his statement about the rear cooler section. I regularly use it for bottled water or my beloved redbull and never feel the contents against my back thanks to the very thick and comfortable slappa hand pad on the back of the bag. I usually agree with cnet reviews, but this time I have to say you guys missed the mark. this is an excellent bag--a bit expensive--but definitely worth the money
Description:Here's some lab-speak for you. The SPYDER backpack features patented CORE3 laptop protection, utilizing three layers to provide unparalleled security for your digital gear. The molded rubber EXO-skeleton on the front of the backpack not only gives the bag it's futuristic look, it also provides protection from bumps and enables the bag to keep its structural integrity. The bag itself, or middle layer, is made of water repellent BuckBlast z-suede. The inside features 3 mm padding in every wall, and plush tricot lining that prevents your gear from being scratched. For most, that would be enough protection, but SLAPPA then take it one step further by adding a dedicated padded laptop compartment that will comfortably protect your 15.4" or 17" laptop, use custom molded alloy zipper pullers with locking heads, and 2 outer plastic runners for additional protection. Also there is a rear outer 'stay-cool" pocket, a cooler lined pocket for drinks. And just to make sure that every base is covered, there is a removable gadget pouch that clips onto the shoulder straps. This backpack is not for the faint of heart and is recommended only for those who can handle looking better than everyone else in the room.
