Summary: I know I may be asking a lot but I only use my drive for simple data burning. I have some data and write it to the cd. When I upgraded from 98 to XP the software was useless but using the built in XP burning capability it worked OK but each time I burn a cd I have to reboot my computer because the drive door doesn't open. This drive makes horrible grinding noises. I DO expect a product to last longer than its warrenty. If I wanted to buy some thing to throw out after two years I would not have spend the extra money on a good named-brand cd writer. I would not buy this brand again.

Summary: For those of you say this drive is difficult to install, you should stay out of your computers, you are definitely technically impaired. Which means your opinions have no merit. A CD-Rom or Writer is probably the simplest device to put in a computer. I work for a local government agency in California and we use Plextor drives exclusively. This model on up. In the 2 years we have been using Plextor CD burners, not one has failed or needed to be replaced. There are literally hundreds deployed in our environment and not one single failure. We started using Plextor to replace the crappy HP drives that were consistently failing and making coasters. Plextor may cost a little more, but that is a price you pay for quality and reliability. I will agree that Roxio's EZ CD Creator is kinda flaky. If you install the latest version and all it's patches, then it works fine. Other options are, Nero or Gearpro. For those who say the Plextor causes their system to freeze or slow down should check their system. Chances are the PC itself is the problem not the drive. Plextor should have a 99.9% Thumbs Up rating. The nay sayers are those not qualified to make an accurate assessment. They are technically challenged and want to lay the blame on the product. Trust me folks, Plextor rules!!!

Summary: The drive may be greate, but the provided Manager 2000 software locked up my system in some very strange ways, and then could not be completely removed. When I contacted Plextor tech support with the details of my problem, I received a mostly canned answers that did not address most of the problems I described.

Summary: I had many CD-RW drives, I'm burning CD's for Corporations, and I've burned about 5000 CD's on my current drive which is about 2 years old. My error rate is less than 20 cd's throughout its use. It's fast, easy, reliable and foolproof. I will only buy Plextor Drives in the future.

Summary: although it does make a great burner,my luck isn't allthat.sometimes it wont rip any mp3's because of a faulty disc even though it's brand new,and other times it likes 74m-maxell's and burns away w/o any problems and those types of disc will play in my truck(99 dodge).so for myself i'll stick with the plextor it's a winner.i just have to select a better blank cd.or check my settings.

Summary: I've had this burner for a year now. Hasn't let me down ever since I switched to Kodak Ultima 80 blank discs. Simply put, the Plextor is reliable and fast. However, you do have to find the right cd-r media to use with this drive (but only because there are some poor quality blank cd-r's) and using a good burning program, such as Easy CD Creator Platinum helps

Summary: this is a good drive and by now you can get it at a good price. it's worth getting as it's as fast as you need. I have had nothing but good times with this drive it is my second cdrw drive and by far light years away from my old hp drive. I would not use the software that comes with it. but then agian I would say that wiht any drive. as you never get the full version of the cd burning software. so don't buy a drive thinking your going to like the software that comes with it. I give it a 4 on value for that reason alone. Can't someone just give me the dam drive and let me get my own software and save me a bit of money at the same time.

Summary: This drive is a dream come true! This was my first CD-RW and is still in my system. I bought it 12/31/00 And it still works flawlessly. I've personally burnt over 300 cds on it and it's had a 99% success rate. The only reason it burnt coasters was because my computer crashed for other reasons. The Burn-Proof is a life-saver! I've been using it to mainly burn live shows, i have a friend who does the same and didn't take my advice and get a plextor, he's made about 10-15 coasters just in the past 4 months! Go with the plextor!
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Plextor Corp.
- Part number: PXW1210TASW
- Description: The PlexWriter 12/10/32A combines Plextor's proven reliability with the most exceptional record, rewrite and playback capabilities available. Now you can rewrite an entire 650 MB CD-RW in just over seven minutes. PlexWriter 12/10/32A comes built-in with a new technology called BURN-Proof, eliminating buffer underrun errors. Buffer underruns occur when the source drive is not able to provide the data fast enough for the CD writer to record at higher speeds. This causes the data buffer to become empty, which brings the "burn" to a screeching halt, turning your CDs into coasters. BURN-Proof not only compensates for slower source drives, but also allows the PlexWriter 12/10/32A to be used for multi-tasking. You can now do other things on your PC - like sending email, or Web surfing - while burning flawless CDs. The PlexWriter 12/10/32A delivers industry leading performance for incremental backups, archiving images, mastering new software, creating multimedia, mixing and creating custom audio discs, CD duplication, file sharing and much more.
