Keeps getting better

Pros: The usual Roxio features plus up-to-date features

Summary: Installation - I had to uninstall version 8 first and ran into trouble. It didn't completely uninstall with the Windows program but then I tried to install version 9. It detected all the old programs and removed them. I think the install program is better than ever.
New features - I think more features have been added to all the programs. All the editors have more. You can do more sound mixing; there's 32 track video editing; more menu creation options; more photo project options. By far the most obvious enhancement is the portable player format support. I just got a PSP player and I'm surprised there are conversion tools for this format. Of course iPod and video phones are there too. Summary: I bought Creator 8 earlier in the year and thought it didn't need improvement. I was wrong. Roxio added some features I didn't think of but really need. It is also stable, something I wouldn't take for granted considering its size. The Video program takes another large leap and adds background noise removal and batch video removal. The multi track editing has increased its capacity so you can make sharper cuts and add-ons.
This program is also more tailored for mp3 players. The Automix will create a playlist and uses an online database to tag all the info. You can sort your song database in a number of ways and then transfer them to your player. It's hard to explain, but if you want a dancing mix then you can pick the songs in this genre and transfer them over so you have a playlist of the type of songs you want for a given time. This is great for limited capacity players so that you can load your player with different playlists generated from that one database.8 out of 8 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Like some others here I was skeptical about the programs stability. I've always had good experiences with roxio's suites so I got 9. However at the beginning it didn't go so well. First I found that I had some old version 7.5 programs that were not completely uninstalled. This caused some problems with 9. The good news is that once I made sure 7.5 was gone then 9 worked smoothly. I also checked with customer support to make sure that 7.5 was removed. Their email gave me a checklist of the method to make sure that 7.5 was gone.
I've been editing home movies. I thought that I would stick to just making digital files from the camcorder, but I found that the video editor is easy enough to add stuff so I can customize them more easily that I expected. Another plus is that you can make a custom disk menu. Since it is easy to take screenshots from the video with roxio 9, I use them for the custom menus.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: After reading lots of reviews on different editing programs I settled on Creator 9 due to price and features. Upon installation it dropped a driver which in turn crashed my computer each time I tried to add a transition to my movie.(I had to download a new driver and it took hours of research to find out what would fix this program!) It takes a lot of memory and the program is slow to load. The program is easy to figure out if you have prior experience with editing. If not, you can't rely on the "help" selection or the instruction manual that comes with it to figure things out. There isn't any drag and drop ease to timelines so it takes a long time to create a movie. It's the little things that count and this program is lacking. I like things to work in an orderly and easy fashion. This program is for people that have tons of time to "dink" with their creations. I am moving on to Adobe's Premiere Elements 3.0.
Updated
After fixing my driver problem I found the program worked better than I thought. It does have a drag and drop feature for ease and it does do much more than I originally thought. Yes, it is still slow but after using other programs I'd rather have slow than not having the extra features. I have to change my rating to an 8. A good deal for the price.Updated
I thought that I had everything working fine on this program and then suddenly it stops running properly.(It's only been a week!) One by one things started to go wrong. Now it won't work at all. Got on to the Roxio website and found that lot's of people with Dell computers had problems. Guess what? Mine is a Dell computer! Summary: I did not have the same multimedia needs that I did last year so I wanted a new program. It's a fact of life that new stuff comes out monthly so in my dream world companies like roxio would offer module upgrades. For example they could offer a wireless home entertainment manager for a lower price than waiting a year.
Now that I've woken up, I'll deal with reality. Given how long new software takes to make, the programs are amazingly up-to-date. Last year I wouldn't have thought of using my PSP as a media viewer. The new tools have massive compression so that I can fit a lot of video. The screen is so much bigger than an iPod so I can use it for more than game playing.
There's a log of ways you can copy files to discs too. There's the disc to disc, disc to image, disc to HD, etc. I've been using the utility tools to get disc info, clean up errors, manage backups, etc. Of course there are some sufficient editing tools too. All the programs are rather easy to use. I use most of the editors and haven't had to resort to using my higher end graphic editor yet.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Of course I expected audio, video, and photo editing projects as well as great disc burning software from roxio. I was blown away with the latest additions - PSP portable, mobile phone, iPod tools. I can now use my PSP as more than a game player, it has become my media player of choice thanks to this suite. The most useful program is the video converter for portables with several options for compression. It also takes photos and audio so I don't have buy another unit.

Summary: At first glance this may seem like the same old program, but that's not all bad. There are 2 tiers for almost every media action, a wizard type assistant or a full featured program. Both types have plain English driven menus making it an understandable program. Roxio has retained the best of 8 and added more.
The menu maker has a lot more functions. You can make scene selector menus with graphics and photos. My menus now look no different from store bought ones. The new useful add ons include mobile phone, ipod, and PSP portable format conversions. If you are rich and can afford it, there's even blu-ray burning capability. That's one of the few features though that I'm not using yet. It also seems that when I burned a miniDV tape, it didn't take much longer than the tape running time to convert and burn the footage. Wrote to the "support" but no answer yet.
Reading on the Net, it became clear that the company knows about this for several versions but never bothered to do anything about it. Not even in the new versions!
I bought due to the hi ratings on the Cnet.
I hope the new buyers be ware and not lose money like I did.

If you try to contact Roxio at their web-site's "Web self-service" you will be told you'll receive an e-mail telling you how. The e-mail will never come.
If you call them, you will be put on hold indefinitely.
If you attempt to contact a technician using their "web chat" you will be told you are 3rd, then 2nd, then 1st in the queue. Then you will be told that no technician is available.
