Works Exactly As Expected
by WRMScoach on October 31, 2010
Pros: Using an IMac with Snow Leopard and VLC - Toast 9+ the product worked exactly as expected -no issues - good quality video - easy to work with the files. Worth the low cost -
Cons: No cons for me - got it for a specific task - works without any issues at all.
Summary: No brainer transfer from the analog source to DVD or Mpeg 2 files ready to send to Mediafire. Simple - easy - set up time was the time to write ...
Summary: No brainer transfer from the analog source to DVD or Mpeg 2 files ready to send to Mediafire. Simple - easy - set up time was the time to write files from the program CD to my computer + the time required to plug the USB unit into my computer. Software is intuitive - manual not required.

Works as advertised
by JCNathan on July 9, 2010
Pros: Easy to install, exceptionally easy to use. Going from VHS direct to DVD worked effortlessly and it didn't use any disk resources!!!
Cons: Not is "powerful" as I would have liked but the program was only $60 so I can't expect "pro" type editing. The other negative was the sketchy User Manual. Needs

Summary: I have NO idea what program the other reviewers were complaining about but I experienced none of the disasters they reported. My computer is a relatively simple Dell Studio desk top with an average ATI Radeon HD 3400 video card. So, I like the program and would recommend it to those who want to quickly transfer their VHS tapes to DVDs.
USB VIDEO CAPTURE DEVICE DOES NOT WORK! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
by Quasimodular on July 4, 2010
Pros: It looked like a nice utility, but is totally useless due to the USB VIDEO CAPTURE DEVICE NOT WORKING
Cons: The USB Video Capture Device does not work. I have tried it in three different computers, all computers have USB 2.0 or better. I am an IT professional and have been since 1980. If experience would have fixed this problem, it would be fixed now.
Summary: Save your money and spend it on something else that works. Run away from this device and save yourself as it is computer poisen. I bought mine at Walmart and ...

I have spent > 6 nights trying to make this Roxio Video Capture Device work with the help available on the Roxio support site and it still does NOT work. Additionally, this seems to be a common problem according to the Roxio support site.

Summary: Roxio takes another dive into the garbage bin with this software. My gut said no don't trust them after this many years. My desire to take a few old VHS tapes and put them on a DVD won out. The help file is useless along with the 11 pages in the booklet. Go to the forums for this product and you will read notes from 1000s of people trying to make it work. You will find yourself being berated by the moderator for asking questions. There are no answers other than "you only paid x$ so buy our better software for x$. For a few minutes I thought I was talking to someone from Mickey Soft. In the end you will have another piece of "shelf-ware" and a cheap USB adapter. You will wonder why you did not go to CNET first to find what others had happen with this "easy" to DVD junk ware. There outta be a law against allowing this type of junk into the computer market.
CNET we need more reviews of software as soon as possible so that people don't have to waste their money.
Frustrating, angering, error messages scrambled screens
by roneenantais on February 28, 2010
Pros: I have movies on dvd finally, but through an abundance of problems and too much time on doing it.
Cons: It most certainly is NOT easy. Nothing but complications and problems. One would think it could be "EASY", until you start getting scrambled screens, error messages volume/audio cutting out and finally shut down.
Summary: I hope that what I say is not considered as defamation, but I am simply stating the problems I personally have had I am so angry and frustrated. Have spent ...
Summary: I hope that what I say is not considered as defamation, but I am simply stating the problems I personally have had I am so angry and frustrated. Have spent hours and hours and days of my weekends trying to get all my tapes on dvd. Always getting error messages, scrambled up screens, getting shut down, doesn't let me finish a full dvd, total waste my dvd's. I do finally have them on dvds but only through major issues. Going through the plug and burn process while viewing your vhs, one really doesn't want the full hour of some of the stuff one may have on the vhs. so you press stop capture, but can only do this 6 times, meaning you get maybe 15 minutes on each dvd and have to start a new dvd????? How ridiculous. As well while "capturing" the audio goes out and your can't hear anything, so how can one figure out if they want to "stop capture" or maybe your child had said something soooooo funny and cute you want to make sure you "capture"---but you don't know because the audio cuts out.....So anyway after having to "stop capture the 6 times allowed, with your hundreds (actually i have 20 so far) of 15 minute dvds (after hours and days on end of dealing with getting shut down or error messages), I try to figure out how to edit them so I can maybe just maybe cut down my 20 dvds to a few. Not user friendly at all to guide you through this process, but just when you think you've got it, i get errors and shut down and lose hours of time of trying the editing procedure. There are no guides to help you through the process of editing your dvd. No idea how to piece all 20 of my dvd's together and edit them all. Not only that since I put the software on my computer my whole computer system has gone haywire. I feel like I've been part of a scam, however i do/should admit that at least I do have the vhs tapes on dvd now, but it would be nice to have been able to do it in a day or two and not 3 weekends and it would be nice to cut my 20 dvds to 2 or 3 full dvds, and I would love to be able to edit them and put them in a proper timeline and such. That part is absolutely impossible and shouldn't even be part of the software program, it just keeps teasing me and taunting me that i am such a sucker i keeping going on to try because it SHOULD work, but to no avail. I think I've finally thrown in the towel and give up.! Gotta delete the whole program from my comptuer!
Very bad product.

Summary: I have just bought it a week ago. It does not work with my video card. I cannot burn DVD. Technical support is completely useless. I am exchanging messages back and forward (7 messages so far) and I am not getting anywhere. Forum is OK. I am still in the process of trying to work out my video card. Probably I need to buy a new one. I can burn DVD with other applications using my current video card. The function of updating the program from within the application gives me an error. Nothing is easy about this product except for the name. I haven't tried other functions like converting tapes into CD. Hopefully they work.
I can understand that nothing is perfect and there might be problems with any application. But not having decent tech support is a real shame on Roxio.
Don't buy it unless you like frustration and disappointment. Most likely there will be something on your computer that does not work with this program.
