Not that bad
by dutchovenken on December 31, 2009
Pros: It worked just like the manual said it would, if you follow the installation procedures. Captured the first three videos I did with out a hitch.
Cons: Roxio could make the instruction manual a little better with more details on some of the other features other that "plug-and-burn". Roxio should include some the suggestions other users have found into the manual.

Summary: I must admit I did some background work before I purchased this item. I went to the Roxio forum on their web site and read a couple of hints to do before I installed it. Most of the negative feedback I read from users were those who were trying to use this program with a computer that met the "minimum requirements". I have a Dell desktop with Win7, an AMD quad-core and 4 gig ram, so I have had no real issues. Do not expect to get "DVD" quality from this program. If you want that take it to a professional. My finished videos looked as good as the VHS and 8mm I was capturing. I have ben able to do all I have wanted to covert my old tapes. It is not perfect, but for the price, it is not a bad program.

Don't waste your money on this bomb!
by jojmen on September 6, 2009
Pros: Absolutely none
Cons: Simply doesn't work on an upper end PC. The user guide is a farce and Roxio provides no customer "support". A techie friend says I probably need a separate power video card but the package does not list the minimum system requirements.

Software was a COMPLETE waste of money. Total trash.
by gboncimino on December 30, 2011
Pros: Zero. None, except for the fact that Roxio is the master of deceptive and misleading advertising. Complete liars.
Cons: Software did not work. Complete lockup many times. Very slow processing. Tried multiple methods (straight burn to DVD as well as to files) and never managed to create a single DVD. No editing features. Worthless manual. Garbage.
Summary: I've purchased many software packages in the past, but this is probably the worst. Do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE buy this product. Couldn't return to Fry's due ...
Summary: I've purchased many software packages in the past, but this is probably the worst. Do not UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE buy this product. Couldn't return to Fry's due to open box policy. Instead I get to try to hash this out with Roxio. Fun.

The worst software I have ever bought
by Jethro_tattoo on January 13, 2011
Pros: I liked the name
Cons: Have had nothing but problems, have not got the first VHS tape copyed to DVD yet.

Summary: When i click on anything to start my recording it just turns solid black. Tech support so far has not been any help. If I could get my money back from Office Depot I would. Once you open the box all you can do is exchange it for another one. I do not want anything else from Roxio. I wish I had read the reviews here on CNET before I wasted $60. I recomend Easy Cap, it's not the most powerful software but it does work and easy to use. I bought the Roxio because I thought it had more tools to edit and burn with. It atcully has less and does not work at all.

God extended his middle finger to create this product !
by pygmyrattlesnake on January 28, 2010
Pros: It's disposable.
Cons: Caveat emptor ! . The instructions are an enigma. Why do they need an encyclopedic amount of screen pages of help topics if it is so easy to use ? Stores should pull this bomb from the shelves, because it is a given that it is going to be returned.
Summary: Bottom line - it doesn't work ! If I went into detail, I would need 50,000 characters.

Worked just fine
by PonderosaPineNeedle on May 25, 2011
Pros: Easy to install and use. Quick. Clear instructions. Flexible. Good video and audio quality. Nice menu feature. Couldn't ask for more at this price.
Cons: the ONLY disappointment was that it records in VOB. I need something I can import into my video editing programs (Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Elements) - I wish I had an option to save in another format (like avi or wmv) since they won't import VOB files

Summary: Not sure why the bad reviews. Installed and used this on newer laptop (purchased 2011) with Windows 7 OS. No problems at all. A fast and easy way to preserve your old VHS tapes. (PS I'm a 66 year old woman - not a techno-geek. I just followed the instruction that came with the software. This wasn't hard to do!)

Summary: It is a very simple product. With 35 VHS home videos to convert, the $60 is well worth the price. Connecting the VCR to the computer is pretty vague in the manual but it is pretty self explanatory. Some of the features are not explained well in the manual. So far I have made about 20 DVD's and it has worked great.

Works Exactly As Expected
by WRMScoach on October 31, 2010
Pros: Using an IMac with Snow Leopard and VLC - Toast 9+ the product worked exactly as expected -no issues - good quality video - easy to work with the files. Worth the low cost -
Cons: No cons for me - got it for a specific task - works without any issues at all.

Summary: No brainer transfer from the analog source to DVD or Mpeg 2 files ready to send to Mediafire. Simple - easy - set up time was the time to write files from the program CD to my computer + the time required to plug the USB unit into my computer. Software is intuitive - manual not required.
