Clear Spot Voyager price range: $44.99 - $119.99
- Reviewed by: Dong Ngo
- Reviewed on: 02/09/2012
The good: The tiny Clear Spot Voyager can provide Internet access to up to eight Wi-Fi devices at a time with fast 4G connection speeds, has good battery life, and comes with affordable unlimited data plans. The device immediately works as an Internet source when connected to a non-Wi-Fi computer.
The bad: The Clear Spot Voyager doesn't support 3G, Wireless-N, text messaging, and doesn't have a clear battery life gauge. The mobile hot spot doesn't go into sleep mode, so the battery runs down relatively fast even when there are no connected clients.
The bottom line: Supercompact, affordable, and with fast performance, the Clear Spot Voyager would be a great mobile hot-spot device for those who live and travel within Clear's 4G coverage.

Work's fine for me...
by Joe7130 on April 15, 2012
Pros: Easy first time sign on setup plug and play all the way.
$99 at BestbuyCons: Coverage.... 4G is new so make sure you are in a good coverage area and soon you'll see more and more towers.
Summary: I unlike the other two really researched this purchase. I live on a high hill with two towers on either wide of me only a couple miles away. I get ...
Summary: I unlike the other two really researched this purchase. I live on a high hill with two towers on either wide of me only a couple miles away. I get a average 65ms ping with a range of speed of 5mbps to 8mbps during the morning wake up and evening when everyone gets home from work and traffic picks up.
Again unlike the other two reviewers I learned 10 years ago with AOL not to use a credit card I use a Walmart debit card and if I have issues with the company I just stop putting money on the card and they seem to call me then.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great Personal Internet for Home & Travel
by Blaiszik on September 8, 2012
Pros: Cheap Unlimited Rate Plans
Inexpensive Hardware Considering there are No Service Contracts
Portable
$35/mo Service is Faster, Cheaper, and More Reliable than my slow tier DSL from Centurylink
OMG it Works for Xbox Live!Cons: Wifi on the device is kind of weak...but for a 3" square portable device I can't complain too much. If you want it to cover a decent sized house with a good signal you will probably want a repeater of some sort.
Summary: I live alone and the basic $35/mo plan is all the internet I need. I get a consistant 2 Mbps downstream and about .3 up. If you are into ...
Summary: I live alone and the basic $35/mo plan is all the internet I need. I get a consistant 2 Mbps downstream and about .3 up. If you are into downloading tons of HD shows or multi gigabyte games to your PC or game console on a regular basis then this probably won't cut it. However, if you are in an area with a great signal and have the $50/mo plan it might...
I've been trying to cut the cord on my wired internet for some time now, but it was either too expensive or the connection too unstable to work for Xbox Live.
I have seen the comments on how hard it is to return the devices to Clear and get a refund if you are unhappy with the service. I have to admit I was hesitant to try Clearwire myself because of the complaints so I picked up the hardware from Best Buy in case I wanted to return it without a hassle.
In areas with a good signal the Voyager and Clear service can easily compete with basic to mid teir DSL/Cable internet.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Works just fine for me. Service has been acceptable. Range is OK. Fits comfortably in a shirt pocket. Amazingly small and functional. Having said that, CLEAR has to improve its network. Coverage is spotty and not very good inside buildings. Not a negative of this device but a comment on the quality of the CLEAR network.

Great mobility network in the palm of your hands!
by DavidMan2008 on April 21, 2012

Cons: wifi range, doesn't have sleep mode, no sound alerts like the apollo,

Summary: The battery life on the voyager is great! Lasts longer than described by clear! I can tell you it the device does not reach 100 feet as described by clear specifications or if it does, it must be for a direct shot from and to the device. I have only been able to achieve 20 ft for full signal! 50 ft is 2-3 out of 5 bars on my laptop and 100 ft hardly gets the wifi range! I also don't like that the voyager doesn't have a sleep mode so you have to turn it off if you don't it to consume all battery or keep it charged. I been getting download speeds up to 5MBps. sometimes when downloading, streaming movies, and trying to surf at the same time, i get 1-2 mbps. The speeds are like cable speeds, but not as fast as fios. Yes, it is faster than 3G speeds! While there are some drawbacks to the voyager, i am very pleased with the device and Clear's services!

THE WORST COMPANY IN THE WORLD
by 47josecnet on March 1, 2013
Pros: Clear does manage to spell its own name.
Cons: Clear stole four hundred dollars of our money. We never got to use its "service" at all. Clear will make you jump through hoops for an hour in its gatekeeper voicemail, then fail to help with unintelligible foreign slaves. NEVER patronize Clear!!!!!

I hate their support; they no nut'in bout technology!
by MarquisDeBrooklyn on May 3, 2012
Pros: Small, that's about it!
Cons: You can't change the DHCP serv_addr or define a range outside of 192.168.1.x. If you connect 2 remote VPNs with their private networks defined as the most popular private space, you'll have all kinds of problems. Size doesn't matter!
Don't Buy!Summary: They suck!

One of the WORST IP providers on Earth.
