Mismarketed, Overpriced and Oversold!!!

Summary: I would seriously like to sue verizon for misrepresenting the capabilities of this product. If you're a pretty big user of the internet, it is almost certain that you WILL go over your 5 GB plan!! The guys in the store peddling this stuff do not market it correctly. They sell it telling you that it will take care of your every need, you'll never go over your limit, it's just like having a cable modem, etc... Look, if you're cool with always relying on unsecured WI-FI hot spots, then why on earth would you pay Verizon $60/month for internet service? I argued with this lady on the phone for a good 20 minutes about my overuse and she said "it's not supposed to be your primary source of internet." Well, ok how about I give Comcast my $60/month for unlimited secure access???? She was a complete dope and she knew her product sucked @ss because I had her cornered on every argument. Please, if you are thinking of purchasing and you use the internet a lot, forget it. In fact, I have no idea on earth why anyone wants this service if it can't be unlimited. No one wants to hear that these days. We don't want to worry about usage. Btw - if you are interested, Verizon DOES offer unlimited texting, internet (for handhelds), and domestic calls.
On another side-note, the service itself leaves something to be desired. The software isn't great and it constantly loses a signal. It's like having AOL dial up all over again. I'm exiting my contract with Verizon. I don't know if anyone else has had these issues, but I know my experience has been awful and I highly recommend you don't use the service until Verizon has made software changes and offers UNLIMITED ACCESS!!!4 out of 9 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I have a Virgin Mobile USA Mifi 2200 that was "flashed" to Verizon Prepaid so I pay $100 a YEAR for UNLIMITED 3G Data ($8.33 a month). The Mifi 2200 is a wonderful device and a terrible device. It's wonderful because it's portable and can have multiple people on it. It's terrible because in certain areas the device will "disconnect" every 3 minutes or so which means I have to turn it off and turn it on again. I have the extended battery which was an additional $90 but it is DEFINITELY worth it because I receive 12+ hours on it compared to the 3-4 hours on the standard battery. I use this mainly for business but I also use it for personal use when needed. Even though it doesn't have 4G LTE, it is definitely worth using......because you cannot beat the price per YEAR ($100/year)!
Overall, fantastic device when you have the unlimited data plan, extended battery and where it won't disconnect every 3 minutes. It'll definitely get you places when it works - use it for an iPod Touch for internet service! -

I LOVE LOVE LOVE VERIZON MIFI 2200!!!
by granny5257 on January 20, 2012
Pros: Great product, exceeded and continues to exceed my expectations!
Cons: None...it certainly is not as good as cable...but it is not portrayed to be.

Summary: I purchased this when it first came out. I have the unlimited data plan and this is my "only" internet service. I previously had Satellite internet and was always having problems. Most of the time we use 2 computers at the same time and have used 5 at the same time. It does slow down a bit if all are streaming or watching video, but that is expected.
We play games almost 10 hours a day and most of the times we have @ least 2 computers going and no problems.
Being "grandfathered" on the unlimited plan is a true blessing. We have used up to 40G a month at times. I will not upgrade to 4G because I can barely get 3G at my house now. I only hope I can continue on the plan when my next 2yr contract is up in December 2012!!
Even with the occasional CSR that you may get...VERIZON IS THE BOMB!!! -
I should had gotten this a long time ago.
by cctxusa on September 24, 2011
Pros: When my Internet provider had problems I chose this device to use as a backup. I also can easily take it with me on the road.
Cons: I haven't used it long enough to find anything bad. I had a little trouble trying to gt the battery compartment open initially.

Summary: I purchased my unit off eBay. I called Verizon after receiving it and they walked me through activation over the telephone. I then connected it to my desktop via usb cable and new hardware was detected and the proper software down loaded and updated by itself. In about 20 minutes I was good to go.
The expense is a little more than I like paying but I am happy with the unit. -
Needs new Package deals!
by kimberly2110 on August 27, 2011
Pros: Fast,easy to use, reliable
Cons: There are NO unlimited package deals! You have a limit to how much you can do online, and your bill will be sky high! total rip off!

Summary: Overall the device itself works fine, but I was mislead into thinking it was like any other internet plan out there when really, you are limited to what you can do online before they start adding to your bill for online browsing! I thought limited browsing was a thing of the past. Verizon really needs to find better package deals if they want this thing to last, otherwise I don't recommend it to anyone. If you only use the internet a couple times a week and don't use it for fun, then maybe it will work for you but if you like to "play" online or work online, your bill will be outrageous. Device good. Internet Plan(s) horrific.

Progressively improving
by Walkerele on March 14, 2011
Pros: Verizon has updated their internet plans since this review was completed. There is a minimum charge of $20 for a 1GB plan, $35 for a 3GB plan, ect. The MiFi can be free of charge with a two year contract. The download speeds are comparable to rural DSL
Cons: Usage restrictions.... Would you like to see 12million people switch from "Land line" DSL to Mobile broadband?? Try this; unlimited data usage for $60 / month.
Summary: Great Product, The way of the near future, is your toaster 3g?

Started out GREAT but...
by wfloydjr on February 28, 2011
Pros: Easily access the internet from just about anywhere.
VERY portable.
Ease of use once activated.Cons: Service plans - I got this when it came out and got an "unlimited" service plan (which I still have, sorta). Service began great, but now my bandwidth has been "mysteriously" reduced and I now have to wait LONG periods for just about everything.
Summary: If you stay within the boundaries set by your plan, it's a great, portable device. Unfortunately, this device is only half of the equation; service will be your Achilles ...
Summary: If you stay within the boundaries set by your plan, it's a great, portable device. Unfortunately, this device is only half of the equation; service will be your Achilles Heel. If you, like me, were able to get an "unlimited" service plan before they were pulled by Verizon...don't expect your heavy usage to go on for too long, you will get "slowed-down" by the powers that be. Numerous message boards talk about the "throttling" that takes place, but on a recent call with an operator in regards to another non-usage related issue, the operator didn't even acknowledge throttling when I brought it up, go figure. How that is fair to the consumer when they are actually paying for unlimited service and not getting it is beyond me. I often wonder about other service providers and their plans, since this is offered with Sprint as well. I may find myself (after my contract ends of course) looking into Virgin Mobile's offering which currently has the same device offered at $149.99 with a $40 Unlimited service plan that you can use month-to-month without a contract...sounds good, but so did my current plan when it started. I wonder how long until they follow Verizon's lead and begin to cap its "unlimited" users? I think I'd better check out their reviews before I get my hopes up.

It is great for emergencies...
by HLisle on February 15, 2011
Pros: Convenience - so far it has worked in the markets where I need to work just fine...
Cons: Don't use this to replace your home dsl/broadband!!!! I would be greatly disappointed if this was my option...

My data plan is $35 for 3gb - which is adequate for my needs. I also use it with my Iphone to keep under the 200MB data limit as I travel... That helps, since I was able to cut back my ATT bill by $10/month. -

Summary: i do not download much, just updates for my phone. i do a lot of video streaming on a laptop, desktop and a ps3. i cannot use my desktop because the signal is too poor. when i am trying to watch a movie or tv show i spend more time watching the retrieving bar or buffering than i do the actual show. as i write this i am in the process of switching back to cable internet and will have it tomorrow. when it is hooked up, i will sell the mifi and continue on using at&t as my mobile carrier and verizon can have their services and their phones.
