The good: The Kyocera Wild Card M1000 has a easy-to-use, messaging feature set and a well-designed alphabetic keyboard. It also offers Bluetooth and voice dialing.
The bad: The Kyocera Wild Card M1000 has poorly designed navigation controls, and its internal display is rather small. Its speakerphone is also disappointing, and the battery cover is difficult to remove.
The bottom line: It may not be super stylish, but the Kyocera Wild Card M1000 is a solid messaging cell phone for Virgin Mobile customers. Just don't depend on the speakerphone.

Great for messaging and for the hip new crowd with lots of features and easy-to-use interface
by lukeishere on October 27, 2007
Pros: Obviously the QWERTY keypad is great for texting, along with a 1.3 megapixel camera and beautiful external and internal screens. Interface is easy to use and buttons are easy to press.
Cons: The QWERTY keypad was a learning curve from typing with all fingers to just thumbs, but a day latter I'm better. The camera quality is sketchy, and there are a few bugs with the interface.
Summary: This camera is a masterpiece, and being able to use a full QWERTY keypad is a great tool if you text a lot like I do. The interface is great, ...
Summary: This camera is a masterpiece, and being able to use a full QWERTY keypad is a great tool if you text a lot like I do. The interface is great, while the quality of icons and other items on the screens are condensed to fit the smaller screens, they still show up ok. The camera quality is not very good, 1.3 megapixels may sound like a lot for a phone, but it's not really all that great. The internal keyboard is small and takes a learning curve to get used to, but I got the hang of it in one day and was texting like crazy. The entire interface of the phone is nice and easy to use, but there is no vibration setting for message alerts, which makes you stuck with a short 1/4 second vibration when you get a message, no matter what text ring you have chosen. You may find yourself checking to see if you have texts. But the opening and closing of the phone is snappy and acts just right, and overall this is a great phone, especially for the price Virgin Mobile charges you for at $99.

Kinda fun, except for the marketing
by zydeholic on January 24, 2008
Pros: Voice dial, email, camera, qwerty board
Cons: Too many options deep into the menus, too many marketing gotchas, being able to play music would be nice

Summary: The phone is kinda neat. Never had one like this. I'm not a text messager, but when I found out I could text to Google and get driving directions, I wanted something with a qwerty keyboard. And I certainly wanted a qwerty to send email.
Also, I'm 55, so I'm probably out of their targeted demographic.
The other one I had was the Party Animal, which was kinda clunky.
I just don't like some of Virgin's marketing scams, though. You cannot create your own ringtone. You must buy one from Virgin. And when you go to their site, 90 percent of the tones cannot be previewed. The links are just broken. Seems like, if they're going to force you to buy through them, the least they can do is let you listen to what they have. But perhaps the scheme is to have you download a bunch of stuff you thought you'd like, and keep downloading until you hit something you do like.
Also, when I want to go online, I have to scroll past probably 10 links trying to sell me something before I get to "Surf the Web". It would be nice if I could customize the menus and remove stuff I don't want, or at least move most used stuff to the top of the list.
I REALLY like the voice dialing feature. Helps immensely when I'm driving and trying to get traffic reports, or call someone, etc.
Voices coming through the speakerphone are mostly understandable, but can sound overly digitized and clipped. However, someone I was talking to said they could hear me better when I was talking into the speakerphone, rather than regular phone style.
It would be nice if there were a one button step to silence the phone to vibrate. Instead you have to step down though a couple of sets of menus, and then scroll the volume all the way to vibrate only.
Supposedly, you can hit the End button, and it will send a call to voicemail, but, still, it will ring until you catch it.
I'm not a big cell phone talker, but with the voice dial thing, and finding out I could text to Google and get driving directions, I jumped all over this thing.
There aren't enough punctuation symbols on the keyboard. Supposedly you can hit one button and scroll through all the symbols that are hidden, but, hey, wouldn't it be nice to put a period where you can hit it in one keystroke?
The scheduler is good to have. The voice recorder is good to have, but haven't used it yet. Alarm clock is good. The flashlight would be great if you could get to it without going to the Tools menu.
I liked Virgin way back when. They seemed like the good guys in the predatory cell phone business, but, they have to make a buck I guess, and they have to make it off of us. They're still the best deal considering they way I use a phone, but it's just a bit annoying being locked into Big British Brother when I want to trick out my phone.
And, since it has 36MB on board, why not let me download some of my own tunes onto it and let me play them. I know, it would only hold 10 songs at the most, but regardless... And don't make me buy them through the online store that is primarily for the under 20 crowd.
So, the product is ok, the marketing sucks.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I just got this phone 1 week ago, and I love it. Great features, great rates, and great service! The coverage has been better than the map predicted. I get full or near full signals in rural areas. I've never found a place where there is no service(and i don't live in a large urban area). The sound clarity is excellent, and the keyboard is extremely useful. The camera takes great pictures, except in the dark. My only complaints are that it smudges so easily even in my pocket, and that there's a charge when i check my balance. Every day that I check my balance over my phone a small fee is charged from my account(ARGH!). Overall an excellent phone, and great service!

The first phone from Virgin for "grownups."
by MsJazzMaven on February 28, 2008
Pros: Ease of texting with QWERTY, vs. the old keypad, expanded memory, better quality of photos. Bluetooth. Solid keyboard. Stylish, glossy black exterior.
Cons: Internal display still too small. Font too big. Character allotment too limited in Text Messaging mode.

Summary: Unlike the reviewer, I was able to enter e-mail addresses into the "Send To" window by double-clicking the white "sym" key. The keyboard layout was good, however, the toggle was too close to the "space" bar, making it easy to accidentally leave the window. Given the real estate under the hinge, perhaps it could have been moved up. Alternatively, the "space" bar could have run been oriented in a similar fashion to that on my computer. The keys, themselves, had a solid feel, however, with plenty of tactile feedback. They were large enough, even for users with dexterity problems.
The internal display could have been much larger, especially for Mobile Email. An option for text size or a different font would have been a plus. More allowable characters while Text Messaging would have been nice, given the easier mode of entry, as well as for someone with elderly paremts or friends not text-literate. E-mail received as text messages over-ran the sreen. Stereo speakers would have made music-streaming more enjoyable. The ability to fully surf the Web was hampered severely by "network gremlins." This was a big problem, especially when clicking on links or doing business online when out-of-town away from my computer. Don't know if this is an issue across the product line or just from Virgin Mobile. It might be a good idea to evaluate the phone again when it becomes available by other carriers. A model-twin, the Lingo, is also in production, but it uses a slightly different interface,
"Keyguard" is useful for securely carrying the phone when closed, for preventing accidental phone calls or data exchange in transit.
"Bluetooth" permits a wider choice when selecting a headset.
"Contact Vault" is a significantly essential utility for backing up your list in case it's ever lost or stolen. In addition, it was nice for when I upgraded from the Cyclops (which also has it.) A few quick clicks and about 30 seconds later, my information was on my new phone. It's Web-based and very secure. The manufacturer also offers software for synchronizing contacts with your computer's Address Book, as well as storing & exchanging photos & ringtones, along with a data cable. Details are in the manual that came with the phone for ordering.
Will give my opinion after purchase & evaluation.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I purchased this phone replacing a t-mobile to go prepay. I use it mainly for texting, and with virgins 9.99 for 1000 texts a month makes it very attractive. The phone has a great design and a small profile, making it smaller then the LG enV. The service is great and has many neat features such as the built in flashlight. My only con is the size of the internal screen, as there was room for a much bigger one. Other then that its a great phone at an even better price.

Only gripe I have is the keyboard keys are a tad tiny and the screen is too.
Other than that,it's a great phone! I love it!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good keyboard, poor reception
by dslite804 on December 13, 2008
Pros: The phone has a great keyboard, very easy to text on. Speaker is great. Very easy to use phone. Holds up to 100 pictures. Loads/sends pic messages very fast. Keyboard keys were big and very easy to use, probably could type 60 words per minute on it.
Cons: The screens were tiny, especially the inside one, compared to the enV. Did not get good reception, no bars, had to hold up to the ceiling to send a text message. The phone didn't ever ring it would just say new call. Only got service in some areas.
Summary: It is a good phone for kids who like to text, it is durable I have dropped it probably over 50 times and it still works just fine. The flash ...
Summary: It is a good phone for kids who like to text, it is durable I have dropped it probably over 50 times and it still works just fine. The flash on the camera is great for night time pictures, its not too bright but not too dark. The camera quality is okay, it is kinda pixelated though. The screens are very small, but they are still good enough. I have been very happy with it I am getting a new phone because it gets no bars in my house, and sometimes no service at all. In places where my friends with AT&T and Verizon get 5 bars I get 2.

Summary: This phone was a very good deal for me at target for $39.99. It's glossy finish and chrome buttons bring you in while the flip up qwerty Keyboad is a very nice addon. The buttons on the front keypad have a very nice feel and give with great easy while the qwerty keyboard is nicely spaced out and takes a bit more force to press with a clicking sound at the touch. Due to the glossy finish the phone is a fingerprint magnet, but that does not take away from its attractiveness. The battery cover can be openned at ease by just turnning the screw verticle to open and horizontal to close. The interface is very navigable and attractive similar to most interfaces on virgin mobile phones. The 1.3 mega pixel camera gives outstanding pictures after uploading on the virgin mobile website for it price. I still wish you could record video. The phone can do just about anything closed that it can do open except play games which can be annoying sometimes. The bluetooth is decent and i have not had any problems with the speakers. There is a 2.55mm headset jack with a rubber flab over it and dedicated camera button on the side along with a volume rocker. When you open up the phone there is a nice 4 rows of keys 3 rows for letters and one for different functions. The inner screen may seem small at first, but as you use the phone it gets bigger. The wildcard does got to the screen saver faiirly quickly if it is not in use an it is pretty load for having one speaker. The phone comes with AIM YAHOO MESSENGER and much more along with stander email services for a little charge. I you are a big texter I recommend either getting a plan and unlimited texting for $10,plus unlimited data for $10 and unlimted talk for $79.99. Plans start at $24.99 a month for 200mins. For pay as you go unlimted text is $20 and so is unlimted data. Ringtones and games dont come cheap and the demos arent worth it. So I reccomend getting one good game for $6.99 and the average ringtone is $2.99. To use 24hours of data or 5mb it cost $1.50. You can use sugar mama to get free minutes for your phone and if you register a papal account with your phone and buy some top up card you will get 100 free minutes and taget has a deal where if you buy 5 of thier airtime cards they give you free airtime of something like that so i would reccommend that. If you are a virgin mobile customer looking for a new phone get this one or the shuttle exclusivly sold at bestbuy. You can keep your old Virgin Mobile phone number and money when you activate a new virgin mobile phone. I also think that you can turn in your old phone for money. If you are not a Virgin Mobile customer this is still a good phone for a tight budget and if you are into the prepaid phase of life. This phone is so at retail stores now for $89.99 in black and online at the Virgin Mobile website for $89.99 and it comes in White and Black. If you buy it on a certain date you can get free shiping and delivered on the 22 of december just in time for Christmas.

Ovrall a cheap fone back peace broke off charger breaks
by toejam45 on September 15, 2008
Pros: the only things good about this phone is the low-priced service and the keyboad
Cons: Me and my friends experience these same problems on the black ones the flip part on the back chips off for all of them the charger stops working after about 3-6months even though its a 1.3 mega pix camera the outcome is always blurry Overall it SUCKS
Summary: Bottom line, i would not recommend this phone to anyone. Its great at first with a great deal, but it wears out very easily. there's many more cons that ...
Summary: Bottom line, i would not recommend this phone to anyone. Its great at first with a great deal, but it wears out very easily. there's many more cons that wouldn't fit in the con box. the software is out of date. you have to have virgin XL for everything, u cant put charges to your credit card (like new ring tones), you cant "split" messages (if you go past 160 characters it wont send as 2 texts) they keyboard keys break easily especially the g key. when you turn off the phone, after awhile it'll freeze and you'll have to take out the battery to restart it, which by the way is a pain to do. Blue tooth doesn't seem to work (phone to phone data transfers, unsure about headsets). no "mmm" you have to send it as a pix. not enough im engines or email services. sometimes when using aim you'll get a question a lot sometimes within seconds of each other saying mobile im requests to start, not a big deal, just EXTREMELY annoying. i personally don't know how it got a high rating unless they're new to the phone. I've had this phone nearly a yr and was THE WORST hundred dollars I've ever spent at the moment. It looks nice on the shelf, but it sucks horribly, I would only recommend this phone if its temporary.

Great keyboard design- but poor battery life/durability
by schiznophrantic on September 8, 2008
Pros: Keyboard layout, good service, mobile IM and email, quality camera, speaker quality

Summary: I bought the wildcard in February and initially thought it was great- the only thing that bothered me was the external screen remaining on and white when the phone was flipped open, but otherwise it worked fine. As the phone got a couple months old, the battery life reduced dramatically, I was forced to charge it every night after losing only a bar. On top of that, mobile AIM randomly stopped working. it would load and sign me in, but then it would not receive IMs and would freeze, forcing me to take the battery out and restart my phone. So, so far- the battery is horrible, mobile aim is dead, and then... my phone begins to randomly restart all of the time. Out of no where the screen would go white and turn off, then turn back on, interrupting anything i was doing at the time. Fast forward to today- a fine day in september. last night, i realize my phone isnt snapping shut like it used to. I check it out, and see that one of the hinges has completely cracked and is about to fall off. I am not even the only person who has had this problem- two of my friends who had the phone reported the same problem, their phones cracking in half. I paid a hundred bucks for this phone, only to have it less than a year, 7 months actually. virgin mobile does not offer a warranty either because they don't make their phones and are thus "not liable" for them. This was probably the biggest waste of money ever, and i would not recommend this phone to anyone unless you have a disposable income, in which case you could probably get something a lot nicer. i can't believe what a cheaply made phone this was, and am extremely disappointed with it. waste your money on something else.
