LG EnV2 - black (Verizon Wireless) price range: $16.26 - $59.99

The good: The LG EnV2 is a slim and attractive handset, with a roomy keypad, bright dual displays, a good multimedia feature set, a full QWERTY keyboard, plus great call quality.
The bad: The LG EnV2 does not offer newer features from the first EnV. Also, photo quality was mediocre, and the external display can be a bit too small. Streaming video quality could also be a lot better.
The bottom line: The LG EnV2 is not much more than a slimmed down version of the EnV, but it still serves as an excellent high-end messaging phone.

Not worth the liability of calls to 411 and Get It Now

Summary: I've had nothing but problems with this phone. It seemed ok in the store and the first few days, but as I made more calls I realized the sound on my end was very garbled and the person on the other end couldn't understand me either - always was ok on my past LG. Phone functions would stop working sporadicly (ie texting, dialing, any menu access) - it would only let me call ppl on my recent call list. The phone began to randomly restart itself and the issue would be resolved for a while. I exchanged the phone - the techie girl was very cool about that - but after 3-4 weeks, most of the same issues popped up. The bluetooth with the phone package stopped working also-refuses to connect with the phone. I use to get pretty good service - now i drop at least 3-5 calls a day. I've called VZW on this, and they just tell me to update my roaming capabilities... it's the only answer they ever seem to give : \. I really regret purchasing this phone.

Other than that, it suits me very well, surfing the web, email, text messaging, IMing...
I don't mind the small keyboard. My husband got a blackberry & I think my thumb would fall off having to roll thru everything.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Solid phone with very few hiccups.

Cons: At full volume the speakers crackle, camera could be better, is already showing wear from being in my pocket.

Summary: Had this phone for 3 months now. I send about 1500 txts or more a month, this phone definitely rocks for that. If you are a heavy txter you won't be disappointed! The keypad is very large compared to the slider qwertys I've looked at. Though, if I send a long txt I get an auto msg from Verizon letting me know, kind of annoying and haven't found a way to disable.
Call quality is generally good but have had 2 dropped calls on the highway. People can tell I'm on a cellphone only some of the time but reception on my end is very nice and clean. I do get more bars in more places than with any other phone I've owned.
It picked up my bluetooth headset quickly and auto sync works like a charm but call quality with it isn't great for the other person, have had complaints of echoes etc even though it worked very well with my old phone. So, wouldn't recommend the SoundID SM100 with this phone.
I've only noticed the speakers crackling when turned up to full volume, other than that the speakers are great and my ringtones sound better than on any phone I've ever owned.
The only huge complaint I have is that LG made this phone too pretty with the chrome lining and glossy black top section. The keypad is scratched and scuffed from normal use but surprisingly the screen is still in top shape. I've dropped it 2 times and the scars on the chrome stick out a lot more than they should. The first time it was dropped it slid across the pavement for about 4 feet, the screen is still perfect! I wish it was flat black all over instead of just the battery side. I tried the only case we can get at the Verizon store and it wasn't good, wouldn't buy it, I had to readjust it almost every time I opened the phone.
The camera is ok. Higher quality than my old phone but nothing special. I've taken maybe 15 pictures, a few were a little blurry and had to retake but the colors always turn out pretty good.
This is the best phone I've ever owned, wouldn't trade it for anything else at the moment.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: qwerty keyboard for texting, Look of the phone/stylish, Camera,
Cons: Call quality, Vibrate not as good as my other phone (LG 8300), can't hold the phone with my shoulder comfortably talking & driving,

Summary: Bottom line is this phone has many wonderful things about it, but many things I just miss from my old clamshell phone that I think I'm too hung up on...
DISLIKES
1. The call quality isn't great at all for me, I'm constantly asking "what did you say, can you repeat that?" This is a major one for me as I do talking on my phone just as much as texting 50/50...
2. The ringer volume isn't loud enough for me.. I'm not deaf but I don't have the greatest hearing in the world and my other phone blasted out the tunes I downloaded to it while ringing and this one did OK but could've been MUCH better.
3. Even with the other phone I couldn't hear rings all the time as I was in loud places often so I relied on the VIBRATE mode of the phone. The LG 8300 vibrated well enough for me to feel it 90% of the time. This phone I have yet to feel the vibration in a loud place.
4. Sounds kinda silly, but I talk while driving with the shoulder holding my phone sometimes and this phone just didn't feel right trying to do that as it's a candybar phone and smaller. The Clamshell 8300 fit on my shoulder pretty well for this maneuver.... (I KNOW GET A BLUETOOTH.. LOL)
5. This isn't a gripe on this phone as I hear all NEW VERIZON models doesn't have this function, but I DO THINK it's worth mentioning... WHY in the world did they take away the functionality of not letting u set different 'text ringtone' for each contact. It worked on my 8300. I mean I do like hearing that *** is texting me or **** is texting me but now you can only set one ringtone for all incoming text... CHANGE THIS BACK PLEASE VERIZON.
GOOD
1.QWERTY keypad.. I like to text and the reason I bought this phone is the STYLISH look of it and the QWERTY keypad.. The only thing is (I know i shouldn't do this but everybody does) is texting while driving.. I know I can still use the old way on the front (AND I DO) but sometimes I get a text response that requires me to open it up to look at it and then I usually try to respond that wey and its not as easy to do.
2. Again - I LOVE the stylish black/chrome look and really like candybar phones.
3. Love the big internal screen to view pix, video, etc...
4. Camera was an upgrade over my 8300 for sure.
5. Large buttons on the front of the phone was easy to use. The lock was easy to take off and didn't require a code to do so.
I so wish the call quality and ring/vibrate was better on this phone as I would KEEP it in a heartbeat, but since I've had it for a week now and it seems like those 2 things are driving me crazy about it, I'm going to return it for the new Chocolate 3. Clamshell phone with some good features.. I guess I'm used to texting the old way anyways... If anyone interested I'll write a review on it shortly1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Doesn't live up to the original EnV

Summary: Verizon replaced my original EnV with an "upgrade" to the EnV2. This phone looks good and that's about all it can offer. Upon holding the phone it feels cheap. I'm afraid to put it in my pocket for fear of it breaking or calling someone at random.
My biggest complaint is the lack of functionality of the phone when using the external features. The original EnV could be used closed just as well as it could be used open with the full keyboard. I guess I got used to that. The EnV2 can do very little closed so you have to open it to do what you really want to do. The external screen is almost too small to be of any use.
The sound quality on calls is not that great and from what I can tell is that the sound quality of the mic on the phone isn't too great either. The people I've talked to on it have had me to repeat stuff because the sound cuts in and out and is often muffled to them. The problem wasn't there on other phones I've used.
I understand this is a text messaging phone, but come on LG and Verizon! If you advertise a phone that looks like it can be used closed then make it to where it can be used that way. I'll take my chances with another refurbished EnV until I can switch to another carrier.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I had just broken my old Virgin Mobile Wild Card, and decided to go with Verizon's INpulse with my new phone. The enV (2) was my first choice and I am so glad I got it. It has a beautiful 2.4 inch display with full VCast support. The key board is the best I have ever used, it has just enough space for the perfect TXTing experience. Unfortunately the external display is quite small, to make room for the large keypad, but I only use the external display as a view finder for the camera. Overall this is definitely the best phone I have ever had, plus the Verizon Network has great service almost anywhere in the US!

Summary: I am very VERY picky person when it comes to signing a 2 year relationship a single piece of electronics that I know will get used and abused more than any other gadget I own. With that said, returning to Verizon after 4 years with ATT was tough; not because ATT is the savior of cell service, but because compared to ATT, Verizon is very behind par on cell phone selection. I was also weary as a result of timeless frustration with the crappy cell phones I have been stuck with in the past. After months of trying to decide between the best of the worst, the EnV2 was released, and I decided to try it out. Mind you I am not much of a texter, but I knew that the phone had new battery technology, and that was ultimately what sold me on owning my first open-face phone.
After about 10 days of ownership, I have to say I am absolutely and surprisingly impressed, which is a first. I live in what the communication industry refers to as a "fringe zone". My house is comfortably nestled directly in the middle of two cell phone towers. Every cell phone I have owned in the past (ATT and Verizon) has obligated me to either move outside to the front or back porch in order to get quasi-reliable service. I knew when I bought this cell phone that it had a slightly higher battery amperage and that I would probably get a somewhat better signal. I was not expecting to get a 3-4 bar signal in the middle of the house, let alone the crawl space! For the first time in my life, I can carry out a full conversation without the random-drop-call-talk-to-yourself-for-minutes-at-a-time-and-feel -stupid experience, and even walk into the house for a beer without setting my caller down on the patio. I don't care who you are thats great.
The other thing that used to absolutely cook my noodle was the never failing "LOW BATTERY" annoyance that always occurs right in the middle of the most engrossing precious moment of the conversation. Let me tell you, with friends and family all over the US and in different time zones, long winded conversations are inevitable, and the phone rarely gets time to just chill out in standby. But wouldn't you know it, it acts like a trooper and toughs it out and doesn't give me any grief about it's battery right in the heart of the conversation. I know its hard to believe that there is a phone out there that isn't out to get you but I swear if there was one this might just be it. Over the course of 10 days of moderately to heavy talk time, I have had to charge the phone 3 times including charging out of the package. Hell its even nice enough to tell you when its fully charged.
The third thing that saved it from certain scrutiny was decent call/sound quality. Voices come over good and clear, and the volume goes loud enough to persuade the phone to drift away from the ear in normal conversations. So you turn it down the level you like and next time you talk to a shy or naturally quiet person you turn it up a few clicks using your thumb. Every now and the the phone seems to pick up its own outgoing voice and its almost like you can hear yourself talking, but its okay since you get used to it. Then when it stops doing it you think you have lost the call (but you really didn't). Its kind of annoying at first you get used to it and id take a little reverb any day over dropping calls.
To me signal strength, battery life, and call quality are the queen essential qualities a good cell phone must possess, but it has some definite other qualities worth mentioning. Some said it would be bulky and annoying in pocket, its really not any bigger than a normal cellphone. Even though I don't do much texting, I still love the whole keyboard thing, makes you feel like you have your own computer in hand. Some say the little screen in front should be bigger, Personally I think its perfect. With a huge 2 inch screen on the inside, a keyboard, dual speakers, and a full keypad in front, you get a bigger screen in front and you just have to sacrifice something that you would miss more than that little extra screenage. You can do pretty much everything you need on that little screen and most of the time I don't even open the phone to text. Plus they have all the menus and features set up for easy access on the little screen so nothing is far from reach. The phone is also extremely customizable with menu shortcuts everywhere, and different menu styles. You can change both internal AND external wallpaper and clock styles. By default the buttons lock after 7 seconds which is nice. The camera takes nice pictures compared to most cells. The external speakers put out pretty crisp sound. If you feel like texting all you have to do is press any letter on the keyboard and your automatically texting. The default ringtones are still fruity and elevatorish, but we are never going to escape that in a million years, but to my pleasant surprise I actually found one that I like. To sum it up there is a very long list of things I liked about this phone and a very short and insignificant list of things I didn't like and for as much as Id love to sit and write a book about it, it would be easier for you to just experience it yourself.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

I did about 5 months of research before purchasing the LG ENV(2). I was mostly looking at the original ENV (VX9900), the LG Voyager, and the Samsung Glyde.
I wanted a QWERTY keyboard for ease of messaging (trying to message on my VX8300 was driving me nuts!).
1st test was price. The ENV(2) was $100 less expensive than the Voyager and the Glyde.
2nd test was size. The original ENV and the Voyager were somewhat bulky and didn't fit in my pocket very comfortably. The Glyde was a bit better, but the touch screen wasn't as nice as that of the Voyager. The ENV(2) passed with flying colors. It was most definitely the sleekest of the four. The pocket test for me is important b/c that is where my phone is most of the day.
3rd test was ease of messaging. I found the original ENV easy to message on, but somewhat bulky. Same with the LG Voyager. The Samsung Glyde only had an alphabetic keyboard (no dedicated keys for numbers) plus was less easy to message on with the slide-out feature. I was originally nervous about the ENV(2) with its smaller size, not having a wide enough keyboard, until I actually got to play with it. The keys are actually taller than the ones in the originally ENV and the Voyager, which surprisingly made messaging easier than on the two fore-mentioned phones. You still have all the same keys as on the ENV and Voyager, but more compact and efficient. Messaging on the Glyde wasn't as easy as the LG phones, which eliminated from my list rather quickly.
The only things that I can say badly about this phone is that the external display is somewhat small, but still very functional. I think that it’s a good tradeoff for the larger more stylish buttons and sleeker size of the phone, and is more than made up for with the larger surprisingly nice internal display. Certainly nothing that would convince me to shell out an additional $100 for the Voyager or Glyde.
The pros on this phone are far too many to list out (this review has already gone on long enough), but there are little things that make this phone really neat. For example I used to have to go searching through my contacts to find the person I wanted to message. With this phone you can simply type in the first letters of the contact's name and a drop-down list appears without having to leave the original screen. Another neat thing is how the contact's assigned picture appears when you select that contact.
Anyway, this phone is awesome. I would still choose it if it was the same price as the Voyager and the Glyde. The fact that it was $100 less expensive makes it that much sweeter.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
