LG Voyager - VX10000 (Verizon Wireless) price range: $64.99 - $74.99
- Reviewed on: 11/16/2007
The good: The LG Voyager VX10000 has a cutting-edge design with a brilliant touch screen and a spacious keyboard. It offers a generous features set that includes EV-DO support, V Cast Mobile TV Bluetooth, a top-notch Web browser, and an integrated GPS application. And if that's not enough, its call quality was excellent.
The bad: The LG Voyager VX10000's camera lacks such extra options as a flash and Wi-Fi. The touch screen can be clunky at times, and the streaming video quality and EV-DO connection speed were uneven.
The bottom line: Though we had some minor complaints here and there, the Voyager's sleek design, generous feature set and excellent performance make it the best LG messaging and multimedia phone by far.

Great Phone and Multimedia Device

Summary: WOW, what a cool phone. Verizon has provided a fun, usable multimedia phone for people who need more than a basic cell phone, but don't need the whole "smartphone" thing. The interface is responsive and fun to use, and the full qwerty keyboard is a bonus. Unlike most people I am having a much harder time getting used to the big keyboard than the touch screen, but that's just because I've never had a phone like this before.
Overall, even though it's a bit pricey, it's an excellent phone with great call quality. I have not had many battery life issues, but I do have to charge it nightly, since I am playing with it so much. I am sure that when I am over the newness of it, I will be able to go a couple days.
I want to take a minute to applaud Kent German for one comment in particular in his review... He stated that he was not going to compare this phone to the iPhone because that makes the assumption that all phones should strive to be like the iPhone. KUDOS TO YOU, KENT!!!! Some of us don't think that the iPhone is the second coming!!! BRAVO!!!! It may not be an iPhone, but it does have something that the iPhone lacks..RELIABLE SERVICE!!!
This is an excellent phone with a cool interface and great Verizon Service...6 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

No Sync-ing to computer?

Summary: This looks like a great phone and I have had LG's in the past, which have been great. However, there is not a way, at least as of yet, to back up contacts, calander/events, and other information onto a personal computer.
Also, my experience with VZ customer service has been horrible. This is also factored in the rating.
Here is a chat that I had with VZ Wireless:
You: When will the new LG's be available in store? Also, do they sync with MS Outlook and/or Apple iCal?
Kenia: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
You: The LG Voyager particularly
Kenia: Unfortunately I do not have when it will be released in stores but it will be released online on the 21st and it can not sync with outlook.
You: then is there a way to transfer all my contacts to that phone if I were to get it?
Kenia: Yes, you may take the phone into store and them transfer the contacts over.
You: even addresses and all my calander info? also, does the voyager sync with a computer at all?-to back up all my info/appointments. The iPhone does all this
Kenia: I will be right with you.
Kenia: You may use it as a modem to connect to your laptop.
You: not to do that, but to back up all my info. Can I do that on my computer?
Kenia: Just to be sure that I understand what you are asking, can you please rephrase your question?
You: Can I back up all my information from the LG Voyager onto my personal computer?
Kenia: Unfortunately not because up do not have wireless sync.
You: so if the phone is lost or dies, then all my info is gone? that does not sound like a good product.
Kenia: Unless you save it to the backup assistance in your account.
You: what is that? syncs up online, or something?
Kenia: Yes, you go through get it now.
You: ok that's all i needed to know.
You: thanks
Kenia: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
You: nope thanks
Kenia: Thank you for visiting Verizon Wireless, I look forward to speaking with you again. Have a great day!
I hope they change it so GET IT NOW does not have to be used. What a pain.12 out of 22 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I got the Voyager on the drop date. The phones touch screen is very responsive, it had a bit of lag from time to time. My wife played with the phone and had no problems navigating all the menus. I got a scratch on the screen and verizon was more than happy to replace the phone for free. The replacement phone had updated software, nice updates. Web browser and in call screen were made even better. Battery life was also improved. I do believe Verizon is offering the updates in store now. My only problem is that the sound is muffled when the phone is closed.
I have had the chance to use the iphone, and it worked well, but the fact that I can change the battery and browse the web anywhere is a big selling point. All in all a great phone, and much better in hand feeling than the iphone.5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I love the phone. I was totally into the IPhone but I like to do a lot with my phones and the idea of not sending a picture message to my brother just irritated me so I gave up on the Iphone purchase. The Voyager gives me my T.V. and big brother shows, as well as the Hills live NFL AND NBA games and thats awesome. The camera is great but I wish I had a flash. The html internet is awesome and I didn't think they would pull it off. Using the touch screen is a little irritating at time. When I try to scroll down the page I accidently hit a link and messes me up. They haven't come out with the extended battery yet so I charge twice a day. I can make my own ringtones which is awesome but when I send a sound or picture message I get a lot of failed attempts and that is the worst thing for me right now. The little things that make it cooler is the option of the font for the phone and slideshows for the external and internal screens.Hopefully a flash update will come out soon to take care of the messaging and battery. Besides that I think this is a great phone and was worth the wait.

Best phone I've had and great feature set and design

Summary: I had gotten a razr 2 v9m but it broke twice so I just bought the Voyager yesterday. I had to travel to three stores to find one in stock however.
I am really loving this phone and I am so happy that I returned the razr. The razr was so boring and had nothing to offer and the Voyager has a great feature set with a better design, and I wanted a better keyboard for texting.
I have not had any problems, of course it has only been 1 day, and I love everything about it. The graphics, screens, keyboard, menu styles, and call quality are all great.
In conclusion, if you are willing to pay the amount and want a stylish phone with everything on it get this one. Also, if you are comparing it to the razr don't bother with the razr, its junk.
Also, be aware, some people might have to change their voice plan just because the phone operates with "internet" but there is no price or any difference, just the name of the plan. However, the Verizon guy did tell me that if you use the internet the extra charges would be extremely high..so I blocked the internet on mine, for which I have no use for (I own a ipod touch also).6 out of 8 users found this user opinion helpful.

This is why verizon built such a great network, so we can have great phones like this!
by ECSJR on January 8, 2008
Pros: Qwerty-Keypad, Widescreen, Loud Speakers, and reliable network!
Cons: $$$, and verizon's restrictions.
Summary: FEATURES: Include everything from VCast with VZNavigator included, MP3 player, 3GP video/movie player, Full HTML Browser with support for email and IM services, Modem Dial-Up, Text/Pics/Vid messaging. ...
Summary: FEATURES: Include everything from VCast with VZNavigator included, MP3 player, 3GP video/movie player, Full HTML Browser with support for email and IM services, Modem Dial-Up, Text/Pics/Vid messaging. And a few other features based on customization.
Touch-screen with VibeTouch: The touch screen is nice and responsive. Made for the finger not a stylus. This isnt some lack-luster add-on feature it really works.
VCast: At $15 a month, this is considered an expensive feature to add on a monthly bill. However if verizon advertise and sell correctly this misconception would be minimized greatly. What is inlcuded is the ability to download games, ringtones, wallpapers for a complete customization of the phone as well as the new feature of MobileTV. This feature is only available in limited cities of the U.S. Now the big money make is the VZNavigator feature. For those of us who want to know turn by turn directions while driving. This GPS system is user friendly and if used regularly is worth the $15 a month all by itself. Remember this is after all still a "phone."
Unlimited TXT/PIX/FLIX: With a full-featured Qwerty keypad unlimited is the only way to go. And yes this is unlimited to everyone, not just verizon customers who are "in." Now everyone is "in." Self explanatory here.
Music: Yes, the phone has a fully dedicated music player. Complete with (Artist/Track/Album/Album Art) info. So for all of us who have 3-5 different mobile gadgets can now let go of some of them. Grab a 2GB* flash card (MicroSD) and have fun with ur new MP3 player!
*MicroSD cards supported by phone are 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB sizes.
2+MP Camera*: If your looking for the "bad" part of the phone. Its here. There is no flash for dark environments. But the camera still takes very good quality shots for a phone. Bloggers and social networkers will still be able to take in the moments if for some reason they forget there digital cameras while on the go.
This also doubles as a video-camera and can make some pretty funny moments memorable.
This also makes watching movies** on your phone possible.
*The camera settings can be changed to save directly to the MicroSD. This is an extremely nice feature for those video moments.
**3rd Party software is available to convert and compress movies from DVD or video files to be place on phone for on the go viewing pleasures.
Extras: 1,000 Contacts with the ability to put 3 numbers and email address for each. Modem Dial-up capabilities, EZ-Tip Calculator, World Clock, Alarm, Stop Watch, Notepad, and Calendar. The phone also has full support for voice commands and will also read back ur text messages to you.
These are just some of the obvious reasons to buy the phone.

The Best Multimedia Phone Out There!
by jrezmail on November 28, 2007
Pros: Touch Screen (for some things), QWERTY Keyboard, Full HTML Browser, Call Quality
Cons: Touch Screen for Scrolling down a list. Vibration is fine but wish it was stronger

Summary: I have had this phone since Nov 23 and I love it. I am usually a tough critic when it comes to cell phones but I can't stop playing with this phone.
My biggest gripe when it comes to having a phone with all the bells and whistles is the loss of call quality. Coming from a Motorola e815, I was skeptical that this phone would have great call quality like my e815 and I was proven wrong.
The Call Quality is excellent. The best I have heard on a phone.
I am on the fence with the Touch Screen technology over all (not just with this phone), but the touch screen is fine. Once in a while I will press an area and it may not respond but this is very rare and few and could be attributed to operator error. Trust me, it is not a big enough issue to turn down this phone and Lg created a back up--A full QWERTY keyboard.
If you get tired of using the touch screen simply open the phone up and the menu that you had on the exterior touch screen, will be in the internal screen and you can use a full QWERTY Keyboard--Great Idea!
The Touch Screen is not the best when scrolling down a list, but again just open the phone up and you can use the 4 directional button and do it the old fashion way.
The Touch screen is great for dialing phone numbers and selecting the menus keys. The vibration feedback make it an enjoyable experience.
I never thought I would watch TV on my phone, but the picture quality is fine and pretty seamless in NY. I will not keep the service though because of the extra fee. Verizon should make this free to draw in more customers.
The Vibration on the phone is fine, but I like mine very strong. If I am walking down the street with my phone on my hip I am afraid that I will miss a phone call because the streets are often very noisy and I listen to my own MP3 player.
I don't use the MP3 player because a phone at this point is not as good as a regular MP3 player. However, I did use my Voyager once and it was fine. I will use it as a back up in case the battery dies on my regular MP3 player. I bought a headset jack adapter from Radio Shack.
Picture quality was great. I have no complaints. I don't get the complaints about not having a flash. A flash on a cell phone never has great range which makes it practically useless.
Videos also came out fine. I don't expect it to be a real digital video camera but it is still very good.
Texting is so fun on this. I never was a text person but I find myself texting people more often.
Overall the pros overrides the cons and I would recommend this phone.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Agonized over a new phone choice for months but am totaly satisfied with the Voyager and Verizon. The touch scree navigation is terriic and I've had no glitches or problems other than a day to get used to the touch scrolling which of course you have to pracice a bit. The internal and external screen are beautiful and everything renders great. Call quality and reception is amazing. I'm not sure whether to credit the phone or Verizon but the improvement over my Samsung with Sprint is incredible. The web browser is great and I'm really happy with how pages are displayed and he scroll actions. I find it very equal to the iphone on this regard.
I think the music and file transfer functions could be a bit easier. I did have to call custoer support to find out how to do picture transfers from my pc and the manual is silent on that. I did discover that customer service was amazing and did everything right with me.
The phone is pricey but I have played with others costing the same or more and feel I made the best choice. You won't be disappointed either.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Lots of Sex Appeal but Ultimately a Bimbo

Summary: Not sure why the CNET editors think this phone is all that—it's not. Another reviewer here got it right—he labeled it "A Toy Not a Tool". I concur wholeheartedly. I got my Voyager less than a week ago with high hopes and I will be returning it tomorrow. There are several reasons:
** It's very costly considering that it's basically a glorified texting device (I paid $250+tax which breaks down as $350 minus a $50 rebate with another $50 off for re-signing with Verizon for 2 more years. Even with the discount and rebates it's still way overpriced).
**The web browsing feature—the main reason I was willing to pay so much for a phone—is essentially useless. It's incredibly slow to connect (I don't live in the boonies) and attempting to navigate the web using the clumsy cursor movement process quickly induced me to give up on using it at all. I tried several times to see if it was a matter of getting the hang of it or if it really was just poor performance and design. It's the latter. Very disappointing.
** Doing things that should be simple like checking voicemail are unnecessarily complicated. On my old Motorola I simply dialed '1' for my voicemail, then entered my password. Two steps.
Here's how it works on the Voyager: Unlock the phone (must be done each time you do anything); select 'phone'; Dial '1' for voicemail; then press the "unlock" button (again); then press the "phone" button; then enter password. Six steps and for what? So I can have a flashy display and a big screen? I'm more interested in utility and convenience.
**Using the "contacts" is more cumbersome than on a regular cellphone. With typical cellphones each number key corresponds to 3 letters of the alphabet (with the exception of 7 and 9). If I want to look up 'Keisha' I just press the 5 key twice to get to the 'K's. On the Voyager the contacts are broken up as follows: A-I, J-P, and Q-Z, so it takes a lot more button pushing to get to the name I want to reach. I also prefer the raised buttons on the traditional keypad because that way I can dial by feel without even looking at the keypad. It's very easy to mis-dial on the Voyager because the keypad is touch-sensitive rather than pushbutton.
**It's very nice to have a full QWERTY keypad available for texting but for $250+tax I expect more than just bells and whistles, I want functionality. Very over-hyped all things considered.
To be fair, this phone may have all sorts of lovely customizable features but I'll never get to explore them since the basic utility of the device (internet and telephone) is so lacking. Blackberry here I come.7 out of 13 users found this user opinion helpful.
