This is the best phone I've had up to this point!

Pros: There is no antenna to break and phone doesn't roll around.
Cons: Anyone standing next to you may hear both sides to your conversation

Great Phone, Great Price
by banks_37 on February 19, 2008
Pros: Thin Phone, simple, moves quickly through menus, good reception from internal antenna

Summary: My biggest fear of this phone is that I would get terrible reception. I have had bad experiences with motorolla phones and reception ie: same carrier with a moto and LG or Samsung phone next to each other and the moto has 0 bars while the other phone has 3-4. My company had offered to pay for a Nextel phone before, but I refused because the other phones where to thick. When the i335 came out I decided that I would try it, but was still uncomfortable about not only another moto, but the internal antenna. I am happy to report that the internal antenna works just as well as the external antennas do on the other Nextel phones. I have really enjoyed the i335, and enjoyed Nextel as well. My biggest fault on the phone, and from what I understand it's the same for all Nextel phones, the bluetooth wont transfer ringtones or wallpapers or anything like that. As far as I have tested just contacts can be transfered. I love the phone though, keypad is great, and the small red buttons are fine as far as I'm concerned. I would recommend the i335 to any Nextel user.

excellent iDEN call quality (as usual)

-When friends use my Nextel they always comment that the call quality is better than what they experience (as the review confirms). I have an iDEN and not one of the "ic" hybrid phones mentioned in the article. -
Behold thy ugly yet invinceble phone...
by spiffyspelunker on February 17, 2009
Pros: I've had this phone for nearly 2 years, and it's by far the most durable cell on the market. It's been dropped from a 2 story building, into the sink, run over , thrown against a brick wall, and the thing that finally did it in was losing it.
Cons: Despite it's durability, it's ugly and big. Very hard to keep in your pocket, and cumbersome.
Summary: Great for kids or clumsy people, horrible for looks. It would make a phenominal first phone, but if your looking for fashion, skip over this one.

Totally awesome phone that actually works.
by omgiamgoingnuts on November 27, 2008
Pros: We live in a condo. This is the ONLY PHONE that works (without having to go outside) WOOT WOOT worth it!
Cons: Haven't found any cons about this phone yet. It's SUPER! However ... we don't use all the 'bells and whistles' that it offers.
Summary: Love it!

I REALLY Don't Like This Phone.

Summary: I've had my share of cell phones in the past, and this was my third Sprint/Nextel phone. The worst thing about this phone is that you have to download every text message you recieve, rather that just getting it. It gets super annoying. The phone doesn't have the option of ringing and vibrating at the same time. It doesn't offer web access, rather than Nextel home. It doesn't have good ringtones at all, compared to the ones offered on my hybrid S/N phone. The buttons on the front and the side make it very easy to accidentally call/D.C. someone without meaning to. It drops calls frequently and is very spotty. I like how it is thin, especially since the other Nextels are so bulky. It doesn't have a calculator or alarm, which are essential to me. I got this phone mainly for data transfer through Bluetooth, but apparently it is only used for the headset, which is a huge disappointment. Recently, I discovered that people on the other side cannot hear me. So I have to go to Sprint and get a new phone, so more hassles. Overall, don't get this phone. It's mideval compared to all the phone advancements out there. I hate this phone!

Summary: This phone was poorly conceived from the inadequate built in ring tones to the cumbersome navigation to the Bluetooth interoperability, it’s all bad. You can’t have the phone ring and vibrate. The store couldn’t move my contacts from my old phone to this one. They were able to read the old phone but couldn’t write to the new one. When a Bluetooth headset is attached you can’t have the phone ring externally, only in the headset. I don’t want to ware my headset all freaking day. I keep it in my pocket and put it on when the phone rings, can’t do that with the i335. I constantly have to adjust the ringer volume, if it’s loud enough to hear without the headset it blows me away when I have the headset on.
If this phone wasn’t forced on me by my employer I’d NEVER own one.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Disapointed to say the least, would not buy again.

Pros: Slim light weight package, great speakerphone, access to Gmail from phone.
Cons: Battery life, extremely poor reception, slow to load apps, no calculator included, Nextel, the I335 will not vibrate and ring together.

Summary: I became a member here at Cnet just to log a realistic review of this phone. When my wife's trusty Sprint LG died, I decided to upgrade both of our phones. I wanted a rugged phone with blue tooth and direct connect. The flip phones all seemed a bit large and heavy. After reading several positive reviews here and elsewhere online I decided to buy two I335s.
My previous phone was a basic but always reliable Motorola C290. This phone is without a doubt the best cell phone I've owned to date. I figured how could I go wrong buying another Motorola? I figured out just how wrong after using the I335 for almost a month.
The I335 comes in a nice compact slim package. It's menus are easy enough to navigate, but you won't find any calculator. I was able to download a decent calculator for $5. I was also able to download Gmail, which was my favorite part of the I335. The speaker phone is very loud and clear, folks on the other end of the line didn't complain when I used it either.
Now for the bad. The calender is VERY difficult to use compared to my older Motorola (and Sanyo, Samsung, LG etc). Why did Motorola change so many things? New appointments do not get a "reminder" or alarm by default, this takes several (too many) more steps. It's cumbersome to turn on the alarm for each appointment and set the time. This is a big negative for me, the calender is one of my most used features on a cell phone and it couldn't be easier to use on my older Motorola C290. The I335 will frustrate anybody who uses the calender a lot with it's cumbersome user interface and ridiculous amount of button presses required to setup a basic reminder.
On to the calculator, which you must purchase and download. To load and close the Java calculator takes a bit more time and several more button presses (even with a shortcut key mapped to the main round button) than the older Motorola C290 (and LG, Sanyo, Samsung...you get the idea).
I could live with these drawbacks, but what really let me down was reception, battery life, no capability to ring and vibrate at the same time and the Nextel network. I began missing calls right after switching from Sprint to Nextel and the I335. I now fully understand why my mom and dad don't answer their Nextel phones 95% of the time, but call me back within seconds of missing my call. With Nextel, you get 3-4 short rings and thats it. If the phone is not on you when it begins ringing, good luck answering it in time. Especially if you chose to use Vibrate on the I335. In the Vibrate mode, the I335 either A: vibrate only. Or B: vibrate twice then ring twice. Why Motorola didn't leave well enough alone I can't imagine. I prefer ring and vibrate so in noisy environments I can feel the phone ring, and when I'm not wearing the phone I can hear it ring. The I335 is not capable of ringing and vibrating at the same time. Every phone I've owned for years has been the same, ring and vibrate together.
I began to get complaints from my friends about the "Please wait while the Nextel subscriber you are trying to reach is located..." followed by a couple quick rings and then voice mail. Time after time I'd reach the phone just in time to see the "One missed call" display. If answering calls is as important to you as it is to me, the I335 combined with Nextel will frustrate to no end.
I've been a Sprint customer since 1999. I was led to believe Sprint and Nextel are now one and the same. After switching to Nextel I started losing signal in places where I had never had a problem before. The I335 loses signal and takes MINUTES to regain signal. It is annoying to say the least. For several miles around the Baltimore Beltway and a couple spots close to home I had no signal while using the I335 and Nextel. This could be the I335 or Nextel or both, but it is unacceptable.
My wife did not like her I335 either. Today I went to the Sprint store and returned both I335s and had them switch me back to the Sprint network. I was able to talk all the way home where the I335 and Nextel would drop out in the same spots every day. I've also got plenty of time to answer the phone as Spint gives you about 6 rings, and my new Sanyo will ring and vibrate together so you always know when somebody is trying to reach you.
My wife and I run a small business. Excellent customer service is how I roll. We couldn't operate with out cell phones. It is imperative that our cell phones and the network they're on are reliable. The I335 and Nextel were a huge step in the wrong direction. I missed more phone calls in three slow weeks with the I335 and Nextel than a typical year with Sprint and better phone with decent reception.
I do not understand why Nextel chooses to only ring their cell phones 3-4 times or why Motorola changed so many functions to make them more complicated and slower to use (calender, no calculator, no ring and vibrate together, poor battery life etc). I've seen the light. Not all Motorola phones are great, and Sprint is hands down the better network compared to Nextel. The Motorola I335 is a step in the wrong direction. This was not an upgrade of my very basic Motorola C290, but an exercise in frustration.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Boost is good price but stay away, service is crap!
by Seriouslybad1335 on December 2, 2008
Pros: Its a good phone overall, i like the comfy buttons, good features and nice displays as well as nice sleek look of the phone! I like the price and the convenience of the reboost tech.
Cons: The service just totally blows on this phone! DON'T GET THIS PHONE! DO NOT!

Summary: I am a minor living in the states at age 15. But don't worry people I know what I'm doing. This phone is a really good phone really(i335) but lacks seriously in quality of service. I bought this phone not even a month ago and i ahve been experiencing some serious technical difficulties! The first couple weeks went great! The phone was good, the service was awesome, i got bars in many places and the durabilty of the phone was amazing. Plus the look was sleek and comfortable. But as the month spread out I noticed some things. About 5 different credit, debt collection, insurance representatives called me asking if i was this man and wanted to help me set my credit back straight. I called them back respectfully one by one telling them they had the wrong number and everything but 10 cents was taken from each and every call i had to make in order to stop the harassing calls and the plan i was on was the dollar a day plan. (where a dollar was taken a day from my account for unlimited nights, weekends and texting.) That was the least of my problems. Then a short while after, about three weeks into the service i noticed even though i had full bars the phone would still take for ever to download messages sent to me and forever for my phone to send messages to others. This was not because i had no currency left in my account balance btw. That was okay, and i thought i could live with that. But then i had delayed messges coming in too, which really ticked me off. I work at my middle school and pay for my own phone, and i had already been with a previous prepaid company before. And thought that boost would be good for me. But i had messages coming in to my phone that were supposed to have arrived days earlier than actually sent. I thought it just had to be either the service i had at the time or it had to be the other person's phone. But they all had record of them sending the message that i never apparently got. There is a friend of mine that is experiencing the same problems but his problems came earlier than mine so i didn't think much about it then. This phone seriously is only for the people that hardly ever text or call and just need something to look cool with as they whip it out of their pocket every couple of seconds as if to show off their coolness by saying to everyone "i'm so cool, i have messages coming in from my millions of friends every couple of seconds, thats how COOL i am..." But really the delayed messges that come in, arent' cool and aren't worthy of paying 20$ for relatively 15 days of service which is supposed to give you 20 days worth. This phone just isn't worth it and i suggest everyone considering this phone to really look at some of the reviews on it before making any decisions that will cost you. This phone sucks. The service is crap, good phone, crap service. So crap service=crap phone. DON'T GET THIS PHONE!

Stay away from Boost Mobile & Motorola

Long Version: I bought a Boost Mobile Motorola i335 less than 3 months ago. It died on me today. I never dropped it. It worked fine one afternoon when I placed it on the table, yet found it inoperable 3 hours later. I didn't do a thing to it! It had messages in the negative zone (-1 messages, for example); the buttons didn?t work, and I could not turn it off. I had to take the battery out to turn it off. When powered up, the phone wouldn't boot up. I talked to two service reps that couldn't help me (names withheld). They gave me a phone number to Boost?s Customer Care. Apparently, the repair / replacement division is closed 8:00pm PST despite Boost's website claim of ?business hours, 4am PST ? 11pm PST?. This piece of garbage cost me $60, and it lasted less than three months. Update-- As of Nov 26, 2008: 1) I wrote Boost's "Customer Care" center and asked for the names of corporate officers so that I could write them over my problems. I never received anything. After all, isn?t that why Boost's website has on its web page: ?Have a question?? But, I found them on my own and will be writing Schaumburg, IL, corporate, expressing my extreme dissatisfaction. 2) As of yesterday, Nov 28, 2008, the incoming text message on my new ?durable" i335 phone doesn't work (10 days old, mind you). This is the sole reason I upgraded from my i205 phone. Does anyone know, does Boost Mobile / Motorola intentionally turn off features to make it appear there is a need to upgrade, meaning $$? Motorola and Boost Mobile reeks of bad business.0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
