Outlook sync software for this phone

Summary: OK. The phone is great. But I wanted to leave this review to aleviate some of the pain that other people have gone through related to the software used to sync this phone. Mobiletools version whatever stinks. I found a better product. Datapilot. I just loaded this software and hooked up my phone and it worked great. it fixed the issue that Mobiletools has where you can only have 1 # per contact. I have multiple #s for each contact in Outlook and they are shown that way on my phone. I am also using Office/Outlook 2003 if you have any concerns about compatibility.
Oh, I should mention that the voice recognition on this phone is amazing. You dont even need a name just say "Call" and then say the #s and after a confirmation, it dials away.Updated
I actually found the ring/vibrate functionality. You have to set the mode to VIBRATE only and in "Vibrate Detail" select a ring and then it will do both at the same timeUpdated
I actually found the ring/vibrate functionality. You have to set the mode to VIBRATE only and in "Vibrate Detail" select a ring and then it will do both at the same time. Something else helpful as a prior sprint customer, i missed not having to enter my password when I get my voicemail every time. Well, with Verizon, if you set up your voicemail under speed dial 1, for example, and then enter (*86 + ' 2 pauses' + your password) as the actual # to dial, then it automatically enters your # when the voicemail asks for your password, ou will only have to hit one button to retrieve your messages.81 out of 83 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This phone could have been perfect but as is, is almost worthless. Read the following ecpecialy if you want one for business. If you are just a kid looking for phone, I am sure you will like this one.
I bought this new phone becuase the last Motorola Phone I had was dying and this one is supposed to be better. All the normal features such as the buttons are great in that you can reconfigure what the buttons do making it very fast to use. The battery life seems to be very good and the size is perfect for me. This phone also works in metal buildings were my last one did not, however receiption on the road is about the same as any other phone, at best.
I have two major complaints, the first is only bluetooth works, so no secure plug in headsets. Bad for me(bluetooth is easily spied on). Second is the phones built in ear speaker, while it can be loud only works if the phone is held just perfect to the ear. This makes it useless in the car, I absolutly can not use it without bluetooth. I suspect by design.
I use phones only for business and talkig so all the corny features like Mp3, camera, text and so on are crap! I need a phone that works in metal buildings, the verg of cell tower areas, in the car etc. Also, if you think I am going to type messages with those keys you need to change what you are smoking. Spend the enginering talent on fixing the ear speaker and give me better receiption and it will be perfect!74 out of 120 users found this user opinion helpful.

Nice phone, but will never be great until it is on the Sprint network!

Summary: There is a lot of talk on here on the A900 and RAZR. I just want to add my own input here. The only RAZR that is on the level of the A900 is with Verizon. Verizon limits everything you can download and use on your phone. You have to download BREW programs from (ONLY)Verizon for use on your Verizon phone. You can not download a BREW program from anywhere else! You also can not use JAVA! So all of the programs made by companies from all over the world are useless to you are your Verizon phone. And since Verizon holds all of the cards, they can also limit what sites you may goto. Ask any Verizon customer that uses the web and let them tell you the their annoying stories.
Also, Verizon does not allow you to take your MP3's & photos and use them on your phone. No! ONLY VERIZON CONTENT!
Sprint on the other hand lets you use any of your custom ring tones, video ring tones, streaming video, wallpapers on your Sprint phone. Sprint does not limit what sites you can access. Sprint lets you use ANY Java programs on your phone. Sprint has the peace of mind to know that their customers are not little children and lets them have their privacy.
Verizon's VCast is really limited. Very few things can be customized and added. Sprint lets you choose from, and customize your content. Verizon has some pretty pricey plans. Sprint has Free Incoming and the Fair & Flexible America plans. Free PCS-to-PCS & PCS-to-Nextel calling. On top of roaming on the entire Verizon Wireless, ALLTEL, and Many other networks for free. Nights starting at 7:00PM and 6:00PM! Sprint has way more plan features then any other carrier.
So this whole fight between the A900 and RAZR is so pointless. Both phones are great, but the networks are completely different. And when you look at the facts, Sprint has the better offer. So I choose my A900 because it is with Sprint. If Sprint had the RAZR, then I would have chosen that instead. But Sprint has the better offering, so I stay with them no matter what phones come out.Updated
I posted this review because I have used both Verizon Wireless and now Sprint. I currently own the Samsung A900 and have a friend of a friend that owns the RAZR. His phone still has the same old basic Verizon GUI, basic MSN mobile home page, and lack of BREW content.
So I wanted to let others know this before they make a choice to buy the Verizon RAZR.
1:Is it not true if the RAZR was on Sprint's network it would have Sprint's Vision home page, not just MSN mobile?
2:Is it not true the RAZR would have full access to Java applications, not just be forced to buy a carriers BREW content?
3:Is it not true that Sprint gives full access to all web sites, not just the ones it wants you to see?
4:Is it not true Verizon charges $44.99 a month for PDA access, while Sprint's is only $10 and $15?
5:Is it not true that the Treo 700 will need the $44.99 a month plan, while Sprint's PDA EV-DO access is only $15?
6:Is it not true Verizon's insurance protection plan only covers phones purchased from Verizon, while Sprint's covers any phone new or uses?
7:Is it not true that Verizon's VCast as much less content then Sprint's Power Visions TV, Radio, Satellite radio, MP3 download, ect?
People need to know both sides and I am just sick of people coming into the A900 forums posted garbage just because they use the Verizon RAZR.
Say what you want, but Sprint offers more then Verizon does. You can claim al day that Verizon has better voice coverage, but you can't compare Sprint's and Verizon's data packages.Updated
I tried replying to your question but it won't go through. So here is what I was trying to say.
But if you go from let's say a Treo 650 to the Treo 700, you will most likely have to upgrade to the $15 Unlimited EV-DO Power Visions access. Because the Treo 650 uses Sprint's 1X network while the 700 would be using the EV-DO. Just keep in mind if you go from an EV-DO coverage area to a 1X area, your Power Visions will still work but just at a slower speed. I was averaging between 90kbs to 100kbs with my 1X phones. Now I average around 1mbs with my A900.
someone posted an article on Sprintuers.com I think, or maybe Sprintpcsinfo.com that said Sprint's data speeds are faster because they use the 1900mhz band and they need more towers to cover an area. So you get faster speeds because you are closer to the towers.47 out of 63 users found this user opinion helpful.

Easily the best phone Motorola offers
by keelog05 on December 1, 2005
Pros: Impossibly thin; amazing screen; it's a Razr.. what more do you need?
Cons: no headphone jack (that i can locate); no TransFlash slot

Summary: I just got this phone, maybe 3 hours ago, and I haven't put it down. I wasn't sure how long the "Pros" section could be, so I thought I'd list all the things I love here.
Built in USB- no need for expensive cable to connect your phone to your computer.. nope, just a $5 usb cable and you can transfer data and charge. (I think you need to have a program to transfer files, but i think you can find that free)
1.3 mp Camera- Alright, I know most cell phones above a couple hundred bucks has a mp camera, but the Razr's stands out to me. My last phone was a v710, and though it had a 1.3 mp camera, the quality was horrible and it took forever for the pictures to save. This is almost instantaneous
Color- Okay, this may seem dumb, but I personally like the color of this phone.. it's not that annoying silver or overused black, but a very nice slate grey.
36mb of storage- Holy crap! When I saw that this phone had the same storage capacity as a small jump drive, I was amazed. My last phone (the over-rated v710) had a pitiful amount of storage. Though I would have loved to have seen a transflash slot on this baby (now my $100 128mb t/f card is useless), the stock memory is sufficient for me.
Sound quality- This baby is loud.. maybe a little more so than necessary. You are going to hear your phone ring, even if its all the way across the room.
Okay.. now since nothing's perfect.. there are a couple cons to this sexy piece of mobile technology.
It's small- It's not what it sounds like, I promise.. The Razr is insanely thin.. and while that's a great fashion statement, not to mention cool as hell looking, I can see it being a problem. I know I tend to forget stuff in my pockets if i can't feel it, and I think this phone is light enough to not be felt. (as you can tell, i'm grasping at straws)
No TransFlash- This is the third time I'm mentioning this, and that's because it bothers me. If it truly does require a program from Motorola to transfer files from phone to pc, the idea of a mp3 player in the phone is made almost obsolete. (again... grasping at straws here)
All in all, this cell phone is awesome! I read a reviewer's testimony that this phone was horrible because they spent their time adding cool features instead of the necessities. If you're looking for a phone to just talk on, don't buy a Razr! If you want a kick-ass phone with a ton of features and a jaw-dropping appearance, then get ready for the closest shave available.. the Motorola v3c Razr.15 out of 16 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I was sooo hot to get on board with Verizon's entry with the sexiest, most hyped, most must-have phone ever. Great, big, fabulous screen I noticed. Nice size. Cool looking keys. Neato story about the type of aluminum and how it is manufactured.
What is not so cool -- and why I returned it for a "dull" but functional LG -- is it's hard to enter phone numbers. (And forget about texting!) Am I the only one that likes the slighted rounded keys that let's you know that you have a finger on the key you intend? Well...this phone doesn't have that. And as for the center "mouse/center navigation" device -- a correct aim and pressure is essential. Thank goodness I am blessed with slim fingers and good coordination -- I can only pity the less fortunate who try to work this phone.
Motorola seems to be slowly emerging from an interface only an engineer can love. It's better than past models -- but the wrong department led the functionality design team on this one.
It looks good and if that's high on your scale....this is the one for you.12 out of 16 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is an outstanding phone overall and is superior to the original in just about every way as the CNET review correctly indicates. Remember, this is 3G technology (EV-DO) while the original Razr is based on 20 year old GSM technology! I attribute the improvement equally to the inherent superiority of CDMA over GSM as well as the vastly better Verizon network (I used the orignial V3 on the Cingular network for 10 months and received countless dropped calls and busy signals). This phone has excellent RF capability and easily picks up signals where the GSM model does not (like inside a Best Buy). Advanced duplex technology allows the speaker and the party on the other end to both speak simultaneously (unavailable on GSM model)-although this takes some getting used to!. While GSM phones typically have a slight edge in battery life, battery life on the V3c has been excellent so far. Highly recommended!

Just because it looks nice, doesn't mean it works well

Summary: First, let me start by saying the v3c is a very nice looking phone. It does exactly what I bought it for and that was to get better reception since my vx6100 got little reception at my house and the surrounding areas. In addition to good reception, the v3c has good sound quality, a highly audible speaker, and setting up bluetooth is a breeze. Also, the phone is CDMA and not GSm (the old technology).
However, Verizon really messed this one up. The v3c has Verizon's OS on it and that seriously crippled the phone. Some problems include:
1) Limited customization
2) Slow menus
3) No vibrate and ring standard
4) Text messaging dictionary can't be added to
5) Calls take 5-15 seconds to send out at times
6) Time doesn't refresh sometimes
7) Many people are reporting weak/loose hinges
8) Keyboards are sometimes loose out of the box too
9) You pay too much for what you get
10) Plenty of people have complained about battery life but I talk on the phone several hours a day and send 50-100 text messages a day and have 3 bars, sometimes 2 left, at the end of the day.
Only one of the 4 navigation buttons can be customized as the rest are used by Verizon's applications, the menu takes a few seconds to load once the button is pushed, the theme colors (menu bar mainly) can not be changed to any other color than red, and most importantly, the phone can not vibrate AND ring. Why? Because Verizon took that feature off. I need the vibrate/ring option because sometimes I am moving too much and can't feel the vibrate and other times it is too loud and I can't hear the ringer so both at the same time is nice, not to mention it is a standard Motorola feature. T-Mobile and Cingular's Razrs have that capability and even though Verizon had about a year or so to improve on the Razr, they just took it a step back by removing standard features and slowing the phone down which is really upsetting. Go to the store and the "knowledgeable" employees will try to convince you that the phone is way too small to have such features, all the such is not the case with the other Razrs.
Verizon's OS has crippled the phone and the tech's warned me that if I install the Motorola OS that the other Razrs have, my warranty will be void. I am using my 4th Razr right now, as the rest had huge problems (loose hinge, loose keypad, etc). This phone is going right back to the store and I am going to get the e815 instead as it has better functionality and is just a bit bigger. Buyers beware, most if you are looking for a "cute" and "sexy phone", go for the v3c but if you want a good phone, stay away.
Additionally, text messaging is crippled because words cant be added to the dictionary as it could have in all the past Motorola phones (type a word with ABC then switch back to iTap and it adds). Verizon blames Motorola for the messed up phone but it is Verizon's fault as Motorola makes them to order. Over time I have found a few more problems that are really annoying... one is that the time doesn't refresh on the internal and external LCDs all the time so for all you know, it is 11 PM when your phone still shows 10 PM. A lot of people seem to be having that problem. Also, calls have taken any where from 5-15 seconds to send... I dial the number and push send and then the number sits on the screen for a long time and finally says "Calling #".
Verizon will be releasing an update in a few weeks (or less) and it should address many of the problems I discussed.
In the end, I'd like to say that most of the people reviewing the phone seem to be oblivious to its flaws and people who give it a ten should feel dumb... they give it a ten and then say stuff that is wrong with it. 10 means perfect... aka no flaws or downsides. Go to www.m-w.com and look up perfect.10 out of 13 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I am sorry I don't know what people are talking about when they say this phone is great. I have a Moto V710 and it is more customizable than this thing. Yeah it is a thin phone but even the color for me is disappointing!
First off I love Verizon. Never really liked the choice of phones they have and thought that thigs were changing.
I wasn't elligable for an upgrade so I paid $419 + tax. Maybe that is why I am so upset but i dought it. First off they have the phone set up so that you have these horrible thick RED bars at the top and bottom of the phone so no matter what background you put it looks squished. Second you can only customize the down button. Yeah that is it! You have to leave both of the soft buttons as message and contacts. The up - left - right buttons are locked and are only for paying options: Vcast - Get it now - Open wave ( a way to look at my account ) nice feature but not necessary to lock it on my home screen.
I got the belt clip for it and it is a total pain to tak out. It almost falls out of my hands every time.
The camera has some nice features but doesn't make up for the non user freindly setup that the whole phone has. I am so so disappointed in this first Razor for Verizon. I am taking it back after having it for 6 hrs. Shouldn't I give it more of a chance? NO WAY. I am not going to pay what I paid for a pocket PC (samsung i730)and have a phone that is this restricted.
IN CLOSING:
If you are a simple phone user and are going from a green back lit phone to your first color phone then have at it. You might be dazled enough by your upgrade that it might not matter to you.
If you are a seasoned cell phone buyer and are looking for an exceptable upgrade from the crappy available phones Verizon is famouse for then keep waiting for something else. This isn't what you are wanting or waiting for. You will be pi_s_d and it isn't worth the 20 min of your life activating it( another pain in the A_S )
I hope this helps. I have spent over 15 hrs between reading reviews, phone calls ect. and feel I have waisted all of it. I hope this save you some time. Because the review that have been placed must be for the Alltel version which I hear isn't resticted like this one.
^(^&#$^%^&^&^$^% %^*%^& $%*$&*% And that is how I feel about this phone and all the time I want to spen on it even though I have more to say. Because I have other things to do......12 out of 18 users found this user opinion helpful.

1)...Summary: After having nothing but big clunky cell phones for so long, Verizon finally released something I can fit in my pocket. So far I really like it.
The Good:
1)It gets great reception. With my old phone I could only get reception in certain spots in my house. But with the Razr I get reception all over it.
2) The interior screen is large and vivid.
3) Volume is plenty loud for both calls and rings. I don't really use ringtones, but the speaker sounds great for them.
4) Looks pretty good. I like the dark gray color better thank the silver or the black. It's thin, so for guys it fits nicely in your pocket. Certainly much better than other 1 inch thick phones Verizon has.
5) My bluetooth headset works well. As someone else posted there's no 2.5m jack, but I think Moto makes a corded headset that plugs into the power jack.
6) Camera seems to take good 1mp photos. Will be more than adequate for those spur of the moment shots Certainly won't replace ymy digital camera though.
7) It looks like it will be durable. Only time will tell on that one though. The metal exterior doesn't seem that it will scratch easily. Hopefully I won't need to use it, but I got insurance just in case.
8) Some don't seem to like the interface Verizon has put on the razr, but I really have no problem with it.
The Bad:
1) Exterior screen completely shuts off after the phone has been idle for 20 or 30 sec. Doesn't appear you can change this. I often find myself looking at the phone and wondering if its still on.
2) Can't add memory, so you're stuck with the 30MB that come installed. Pretty much makes the video and MP3 player useless. Not a big deal for me... that's why I have my iPod.
3) I don't plan on playing many games on the phone, but I downloaded one just give it a try. Didn't work well at all. Way too easy to hit the "call end" button by accident thereby exiting the game.
Bottom line is if you want a small phone and you use your phone mostly to make calls, this should fit your needs very well.8 out of 8 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Obviously you (cornerofnonwhere) have not used this phone or don't know how to use it because your throwing out some flase info there. You can use Mp3's and photos of your own. Not from the camera but off of your computer! And you can use your own custom content like MP3's (off the computer) wallpaper, stream video off of VCAST, and more. Also, one thing that you didn't mention was that Verizon offers free Verizon to Verizon, (which Sprint to Nextel is basically Sprint to Sprint because they merged), and there is no roaming charges. Another thing, the reason they are so pricy is because "you get what you pay for". If you pay for good service, you are going to get good service. And in this place your paying for the nation's best service. And Verizon holding all the cards is called business....
