Summary: I am your simple user using mainly texting, IM, music player and that is about all. If you want a good solid texting/IM phone with a super long battery life even with music playing then this is your phone. For those of you who want a sleek beautiful phone with all the features then this is not for you, I'd go with the LG enV touch.

editor's review is incorrect about camera...
Pros: fun phone... nothing to add that the others haven't already said...
Cons: the screen... serviceable, at best, but I do believe it will last through two years in my pocket... something I don't trust of some of the more fancy screens.

editor's review incorrectly states there is no self portrait mirror... open the silder, there it is... and I find it actually is easier to use the camera with the phone open with long and skinny fingers... not sure how others will like it.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

JUST DO NOT GET THIS PHONE. PLEASE !!
by livestchickever on February 12, 2012
Pros: It's loud.
- other than that, there is absolutely nothing i like about this phone.Cons: The touch sensitive keys press by themselves, it's really slow, super small, the camera is horrible, and it doesn't even matter if you have it on vibrate because even that's really loud.

Summary: This phone is terrible. The buttons on mine don't work, and with me being a teenager, i love texting. On a few occasions, I've dropped it on the floor. After that's happened, it's literally about to snap in half. I swear i actually am going to throw it on the ground. It drives me crazy. Now i'm finally getting a new one tomorrow, and I'm glad i get to leave this piece of crap.

Longest Survivor of all the phones I've ever owned
by RelientKatie on November 29, 2011
Pros: Ok, so I'm not very nice to my technology... I've dropped this phone on multiple occasions on various surfaces, I have even dropped it in a tub half full of water. It's the phone that takes a licking and keeps on ticking and it has great battery life
Cons: It glitches/spazzes out from time to time, like I touch the back of it and it does something like send a text before I'm done composing it or go into my contacts list but it's nothing compared to the things my friends have dealt with with this phone.

Summary: I am pretty sure I own the only one that has still worked after being left in the rain for an hour and also fully submerged underwater for 10 seconds without the battery being thrown in a bag of rice. I wouldn't suggest buying this phone though because, as I said, I'm pretty sure mine is a rare case. Everyone else I've met with this phone has had it break on them within a couple days/months.

Solid, sturdy phone that fit my basic needs.
by Ice_Cream_Saturday on November 17, 2011
Pros: Sturdy design, wonderful keyboard, thick enough to hold comfortably, small and fits well in palm, like the partial-touchscreen idea, dedicated text-messaging key, very intuitive.
Cons: Keys can feel a bit stiff; screen is small, so the Internet is limited; boring UI; loading music is difficult; soft keys sometimes spaz out; unlocks itself.

Summary: This was my first phone, and for the purpose of a simple feature phone, it worked perfectly. It sent texts, made calls, took decent pictures, and could hold music. The layout of the keyboard is the best physical one I've seen--it is spacious, and the space bar has its own row. Yes, when you use an Apple touchscreen and then go to type on the Rival, the keys feel very stiff. But it's still functional and easy to type on. It has a dedicated "new text message" key, too, which I use exclusively.
Then, obviously, there are plenty of cons, mostly because it's simply not a smartphone and lacks a full touch-screen (for instance, the Contacts list is slow to scroll through with the D-pad for navigation). Lack of customization irritated me most; the phone got slapped with a boring UI and terrible display themes.
The main complaint on this phone seems to be its quality. I've only had very few and minor issues. The soft keys will often spaz out and start pressing themselves repeatedly, which is annoying, but it's quickly fixed by sliding the keyboard in and out. I dropped this phone twice onto concrete from about five and a half feet, and it kept working. It's been going strong for nearly 2 years. As long as you treat it right (and sometimes even when you have accidents), it will work fine. -
Looks can be deceiving.

Cons: Bad design. Control pad is designed terribly. Sd slot is placed awkwardly, the black shell casing that holds the battery is very flimsy. Lags randomly, especially when receiving a text message while viewing a picture or a video. Occasionally fails and res

Summary: This was the first phone I owned, and still currently own (unfortunately). I had bought this as my first phone when I was 16, thinking that it would be a pretty good budget text phone. It was pretty decent at first, but then I began to realize all of the problems that plagued this phone. For starters, the call quality isn't very good, even when in an area of high reception. Many times the voices were scratchy and choppy, sometimes the background noise would be so distorted that I would have to hang up and try again. My friends told me that my voice would sound scratchy when speaking back to them on my Rival. Nothing to say about the camera or the video recorder, very low quality crap. Lag also seems to be an issue. This phone sends text messages at nearly half the speed of some other messaging phones from two years ago. Picture messaging would sometimes fail for no reason, even if there was a full signal. The touch screen sometimes worked against you. The keys would sometimes glitch or not respond at all when being pressed on the screen. Text messages would randomly send as blanks if I didn't cancel quickly enough, which is tricky to control itself. Moving on to the actual design of the phone, the outer casing design is mediocre. The black plastic cover that holds the battery is very flimsy and does not match the color scheme of the phone. The SD slot is placed awkwardly so that you would have to remove the casing and try to find the really small marker that tells you where to put in your SD card. The side buttons used to press for camera and voice commands are for some reason harder to press than the other buttons and more "slippery." The control pad fell of my rival, what can I say. The battery life is the only good thing about this phone. I don't know how I made this piece of crap phone work for 2 years, but now that I'm upgrading, I'm going to throw this phone off a 10 story building.
