Motorola Zine ZN5 (T-Mobile) price range: $109.99

The good: The Motorola ZN5 offers a fantastic camera with a wide range of options and excellent photo quality. The plentiful feature set includes stereo Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, the design is sleek and sturdy, and call quality is more than respectable.
The bad: The Motorola ZN5's memory card is located behind the battery cover. The menus can be pokey at times and the camera interface could use a refinement. Also, the ZN5 lacks video editing features and the photo uploading process had a couple of hiccups.
The bottom line: The Motorola ZN5 is the best camera phone we've seen so far. But it doesn't stop there, as it's a good phone, too.

Excellent phone, camera, mp3 player, PDA
by mwils64 on April 12, 2010
Pros: Phone reception, call quality, and camera are exceptional. The mp3 player is most excellent and pleasure to listen to. All the photo editing, Motoconnect, SMS texting, email, browser and internet make it loads of fun.
Cons: A little difficult getting around the menus, finding sound and ringtone options was alot of work at first. Texting took some getting used to. Battery was loose and shut off the phone until I added some paper on it to hold it in place.
Summary: It is a fantastic phone and well worth the time and effort it took to get familiar with it. I cannot find another phone that gets such good reception, takes ...
Summary: It is a fantastic phone and well worth the time and effort it took to get familiar with it. I cannot find another phone that gets such good reception, takes great pictures, and sounds so good. It lets me know when I'm going through the menu too fast, I wait for it so it wont freeze up. It has so many settings and sounds, you can even create your own ringtone. Motoconnect is awesome for playing around with syncing the phone to your PC. I use it for photo editing and creating ringtones. It is so much fun.

Great camera with POOR keypad response times.
by aethellen on February 11, 2010
Pros: Camera takes nice photos, call quality seems to be good - although I'd prefer more volume, nice sized screen
Cons: Keypad frequently bogs down and is a severe, problematic drawback. If you rely on your phone to be an extension of you - and you consider yourself to be a fairly quick draw - you will come to loathe this phone. Menus are not intuitive.

Summary: Between work related matters where timing is everything, and my life as a mom with kids who have seemed to have more than their fair share of emergency situations in the past year, this phone's unresponsive keyboard has been unforgivable. When I need it most, it lags, doesn't respond, locks up - you name it. I need my phone to be a reliable workhorse and this simply does not cut it. While it takes good quality photos - if I can't get the keypad to respond in time to show off said photos, or to pick up a call, or retrieve voice mail - pretty pictures don't matter. Glad I didn't pay full retail for this phone. I curse at it waaaay too often - so I can't wait until my contract is up. I may even buck up to replace it - it has been THAT frustrating!
I should mention that I do not text, I do not have a web package, I just use the phone for calls and photos - that's it. And I call less than 1000 minutes a month. So - just in case you think heavy text usage, browsing or email bogs down the phone -- nope -- it is a design flaw in this model regardless of your level of use. I don't even store a lot of photos on my phone so memory is not the problem. BTW - as far as image quality goes - it is a good, probably better than average camera, but unless you have great sunlight, your images will not be great print quality. I really wanted to love this phone, but its poor performance has been a major disappointment that cannot be overlooked. I wish Motorola could provide some software patch to fix this glitch. sigh. I bought this for about $30 with my new contract - it was worth that but definitely not a lot more. If you are going to drop $100-200 on a phone, get something more reliable.

I SOBBED when I put it through the washing machine!
by caroleetravis on February 7, 2010
Pros: Amazing pic quality! Easy access to pic gallery and simple to delete or share pics. Long talk time, never had it die on me. Great text options.
Cons: Sometimes freezes up when texting or entering numbers. No qwerty. Video recording was just average.

Summary: I bought the zn5 because I needed a new camera, and this one happened to also be a phone. The camera is the most awesome ever! Kodak flash and tons of pic options just like a real camera. It has tons of other stuff too that I never got a chance to use because I'm not tech-savvy, but I know it was there. Things like wifi, fm radio, bluetooth, internet, mp3 player, etc. I am going to miss my zn5 terribly!!! My warranty through TMobile doesn't have a replacement (out of stock?) so they are making me choose another phone, but if I could get another zn5 I would do it in a heartbeat! I had it for about 6 months before it's untimely demise. Too bad it couldn't withstand the massive G-force of the spin cycle. If you need a great camera and also a phone, this is the one for you.
I have to mention that it did freeze up sometimes when I was texting... like I would be typing and it would just stop putting down the characters, and then 2-3 seconds later it would type out all the words really quick. Sometimes it wouldn't register for a second or so when I would push an option for a phone menu (like "press 7 to delete", etc.), like the buttons were stuck. Also when hanging up it sometimes took a second or so to register the call end button (wasn't a problem except when i was trying to hang up on my hubby during a fight lol). But I think it was a memory thing, not a hardware thing. It was annoying at first, but I learned to deal with it because I'm not one of those people that sends 1000 texts a day. If you're a mega texter, you probably want a qwerty anyway, which this phone doesn't have. Also, the video recording quality was fair but not great, and sometimes it would freeze in mid-vid recording, which made the video choppy. But the voice recording was great.
I will miss you zn5. :( -
Great Phone...After half a year it breaks down
by aznxwater on December 7, 2009
Pros: Music is great. Camera Flash. Customize Phone Background. Customize Ring Tone.
Cons: Freezes up when getting an imcoming message. Your playing your music and it stops for 20 secs then your new message pops up. After having it for half a year, i place it down less than 3 inches from a table and shuts down. Memory Card beind Battery
Summary: Its a great phone if you are in need of a small phone+camera all in one. If you are a texting maniac...do not get this phone.

Great camera, but with difficulties and inconveniences
by PCgoneMac on December 5, 2009
Pros: -The 5 MP camera takes amazing quality photos
-The editing features for the camera are nice
-It has a pretty good flash.
-The camera has a cover that protects it very well.
-Sturdy body.Cons: -The number keys are flat and horribly designed. It is hard to text and sometimes even call.
-As Kent said, the autoflash sometimes flashed when it didn't need to.
-The SD card is in a bad place
-The video taken by the camera is rather clunkySummary: The quality of the camera (not video camera) is amazing, and sometimes turns out better than 6 or 7 MP cameras. However, the buttons, well... suck, because they are flat ...
Summary: The quality of the camera (not video camera) is amazing, and sometimes turns out better than 6 or 7 MP cameras. However, the buttons, well... suck, because they are flat and hard to distinguish from each other.
So, if you are NOT a big texter and want a great camera on an affordable phone, the ZN5 is a great choice. However, if you text a lot, I wouldn't recommend getting it because the buttons are WAY too flat and texting on this phone is a challenge. People may choose to overcome these inconveniences to get an amazing camera phone for little or no money. -

Summary: I have owned many SMARTPHONES with WiFi and this is the most dependable phone that I ever carried. I have NEVER had one moments problem with it. I have carried the HTC Wing touchphone with Windows 6 and it is very buggy and freezes. This phone never freezes and is very fast! To put this best if this phone were a car, it would be the dependable car with 4 wheel drive and engines purrs like a kitten. The kind of car that you feel safe inside. Well, this is my experience with this phone. I know I can depend on this phone with the long battery life I have gotten (12 hours lately of talk time, and several days of standby)! Better than I ever got with other phones. I plan on keeping this phone for many years if at all possible as my super dependable phone!

Great camera. Horrible texting
by bostonsteph1234 on November 20, 2009
Pros: I love the camera on this phone. It takes great quality photos, and the USB makes it incredibly easy to upload pics to your computer. Calls are very clear and I've never had any issues with dropped calls.
Cons: This is the worst texting phone I've ever had. It can't keep up with the letters you type and often just freezes completely. I've called T-Mobile 3 or 4 times about this. The keys also make texting very difficult because of the keypad design.
Summary: As much as I love the camera and think that the quality of the calls is very good, I would not recommend this phone to anyone that plans on sending ...
Summary: As much as I love the camera and think that the quality of the calls is very good, I would not recommend this phone to anyone that plans on sending text messages regularly. We have two of these in our house, and both phones do the exact same thing. I am by no means a speedy texter, and if this phone can't even keep up with my pace, then good luck to anyone that gets this phone for their teenager! As soon as I am eligible for another phone upgrade from T-Mobile, this phone will be gone.

WISH I COULD GIVE IT A HIGHER RATING
by jackie1013 on November 6, 2009
Pros: The concept is good and I like the camera. It helps to have a good camera on hand without lugging your digital. Has the look and feel of a camera.
Cons: The thing is sooooo darn slow. Push a button, any button and then it's anybody's guess as to when the thing will decide to work.
Summary: You might be able to snap 5 pics in a row or you may just miss a really good shot because you're waiting for the thing to work. This ...
Summary: You might be able to snap 5 pics in a row or you may just miss a really good shot because you're waiting for the thing to work. This is money I wish I hadn't spent. Glad I got it from ebay. The price was a cheaper which is what it should have been for the get go.
P.S. This was new in box just in case you were wondering.
