The good: The Pantech Impact has a unique OLED touch-sensitive keypad, dual displays, and a full QWERTY keyboard. Features include 3G, GPS, a HTML browser, a 2.0-megapixel camera, and a music player.
The bad: The keypad could be a little roomier; the keyboard feels off balance; and the camera is a bit tricky to use.
The bottom line: The Pantech Impact has an eye-catching style and a respectable feature set, but its design could use some improvements.

Summary: For those of you who want a phone to be a phone first with a few extras then this is a nice phone. However, I cannot recommend this phone until Pantech (1-800-962-8622) corrects the mistake that they have made in advertising this phone. Their web site (http://www.pantechusa.com/phones/impact) as well as every other web site advertising this phone including AT&T?s say?s that this phone has ?Speaker-Independent Voice Commands?. IT DOES NOT HAVE THIS FEATURE. If you are like me and need true hands free system that can be used with Bluetooth or even the speaker phone this is not the phone. AT&T?s solution to this problem was to add their ?Voice Dial? to my account and graciously charge me $4.99 each month to dial *8, press talk, listen to prompt, say who I want to call, listen to some more prompts. But first I have to set up a separate contact list (limit of 20) on their web site because it does not use the contact list that you set up on your phone. This is not hands free, you can dial the number faster than you can go through this process.
Update, just got off the phone with Alex at Pantech and the official line is that is was a mistake on the part of the advertisers or that perhaps AT&T remove this feature during the beta testing. The bottom line is that there probably will not be an update for this phone in the near future if ever. My phone is going back and I will start the process again of trying to find a phone with voice clarity, speed dial, Speaker-Independent Voice Commands, and the productivity features that I have come to expect on a phone. Any suggestions?
If you have already purchased this phone please call Pantech and insist that they give us a software update or recall this phone. AT&T should pull it from their line until the problem is fixed. I believe that false advertisement is against the law. Even if you haven?t purchased the phone still call? Don?t let Pantech and AT&T get by with this or it will only get worse.
Now for the phone itself, I really like this phone. I waited an additional two years before upgrading my phone from a Razr. So for four years the only way that I could talk was to use the speakerphone or Bluetooth because the ear piece was rotten. Call quality on this phone is excellent. It is almost like talking on a landline. With it having two stereo speakers the speakerphone is also excellent (phone has to be open to work). For you music lovers it does not have a headphone jack, you will have to use Bluetooth or an adaptor (I thought a headphone jack was standard anymore). It is a little heaver than the Razr but it fits nicely in the hand and pocket. The front of the phone has a small window and a key pad below. The numbers are easy to see and well spaced. They do have haptic feedback when pressed and you can adjust the sensitivity level and vibration strength of the keys. It does take a little bit of getting use to but it is really not too bad. You will need to get the protective film for this phone and I would also recommend a protective cover. They make a clear one.
You can enter 1,000 contacts with and with each contact you can enter 5 numbers, 2 e-mails, address, web URL and a memo if you save to phone. If you save to sim it is only 3 numbers and 1 e-mail. You can also group your contact and add a photo ID which will not show up on the front of the phone. The alarm which I find myself using for 5 min. cleanup warning in the classroom and for meds is quite loud and you can set it to repeat. You can choose from different ring tones and a single time, daily or weekend modes. The calendar works a lot like MS outlook calendar, nice. This phone also has a notepad, a voice memo recorder, a world clock, a calculator, a tip calculator, a unit converter, a stop watch, and a timer. There are 8 speed dial numbers. Remember this is not a smart phone but it is packed with organizational features. Another nice feature is that you can increase the font size and have two different font styles to pick from. This makes the phone very easy to read.
I did not purchase the phone for the camera so I will let some else speak to that. I did try it out thou and the phone has to be flipped opened to take the picture. The web interface is nice and comes up quickly and I did not experience any lag time during browsing. The screen however is a little small. But here again, I did not buy the phone for web browsing and will cancel that feature before my 30 days are up. I am not a big texter but I did find the key board easy to use. I like the toggle button better than the arrow keys even if it does take a little more room (personal taste).
If you do want to purchase the data package you can also watch TV clips or full length shows. I have it free for 30 days so I tried it out. I was very impressed; however the phone did get warm after 40 min. of use and took quite a while to cool down. I am not sure that the heat generated by this feature is good and on the thin circuit boards in these phones.
I have been on the Phone with Pantech and AT&T since the 16th and the ?Speaker-Independent Voice Commands? issue has not been resolved. I have talked to several people at Pantech all of which promised to call me back. I am still waiting!!!
As you can tell from above I like the phone, but I want was advertised which is one of the reasons that I purchased the phone. Please help me to convince Pantech and AT&T to fix this problem and call Pantech at (1-800-962-8622).

The Best Phone I've Ever Had

Summary: I got this phone in pink on January 20th and I am absolutely in love with it. I have never had a qwerty keyboard phone besides my touch screen one on my LG Vu (which I DO NOT recommend to anyone), but with the spacious keys I am already texting at a very fast pace. The keyboard is very easy to get used too. The camera is clearer than most phones that I have had. When you send and receive messages, you can see them as a conversation like an Instant Message, which I really like. It is good for remembering what the person said to you because you can scroll up and down and look at previous messages and then continue texting. The front keypad is touch sensitive and is very responsive. Those keys are also big so dialing using the front keypad is really easy as well. From the front you can access your music, messages, address book, and recent calls. You can also make calls and send messages this way too. The only thing I do not like about this phone is that it does not have t9 mode of the front keyboard. This is just a small problem and one that I can work around, considering the keyboard on the inside. On the side of the phone you have volume control which is easy to use to set profiles. There is also a hold key that locks the front of the screen. The small screen on the front is customizable along with the large LCD screen on the inside. You are able to change the clocks and the font to make your phone perfect for you. When you are talking on the phone, you can open the phone and it will automatically switch to speaker phone. You can also dial from the qwerty keypad. Some of the apps inside the phone include YP mobile, AT&T GPS, Messaging, Address Book, My Stuff (Applications, Audio, Games, Picture, Video, Tools, Other Files, and Used Space), Mobile Email, Settings, AT&T Music, APP Center, and Mobile Web. This phone is a sleek, beautiful, easy to use device. I recommend it to everyone.

Summary: This phone is seriously horrible. I got it about 6 months ago and at first I was pretty happy with it. It seemed to work fine, and I didn't have many complaints, until one day I wrote a long text message and when I went to send it it said 'messages full'. It did not give me a warning that my messages were about to be full. It happens all the time so I delete messages like every week. Also, when this happens you cant save your message to drafts while you delete some, so you loose the message.
Then I started getting complaints from people when I was on the phone with them, I could hear them fine but people kept telling me they couldn't understand me or that I sounded like I was underwater or that I sounded like a robot lol. I took it back to AT&T and they tried giving me a new sim card and even gave me the same phone brand new! It never fixed any of my problems.
It only gets worse. Now almost every time I am on the phone I get a dropped call, and then I'll look at my phone and it says no bars of service. NOTE: I am in a full service area in a city! I called and tried to trouble shoot it several times with AT&T and nothing ever got better.
To make it worse the other half of the time I use the phone it randomly hangs up. I think that my ear touches the end button on the touch screen and it ends the call.... but what is even weirder is that the same end button never works when you need it to, like at the end of a call. You touch it and it does literally nothing, ill hit it over and over until I have to open the phone and press end on the inside. Its really horrible! My bf freaked out when he used it saying that he couldn't hang up.
Anyway I am finally getting a new phone after bothering AT&T about it for months. What a mistake it was to get this phone! Don't do it!!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

DO NOT BUY!!

Summary: Anyone who has given this phone good reviews either has had it for less than a week or has extremely low expectations from a phone. The OS has numerous bugs that there's really no excuse for.
1) Despite the fact that this is supposed to be a text messaging phone, it "runs out of space" for messages constantly, even though there's plenty of remaining memory.
2) This is a horrible phone if you have any interest whatsoever in using it as a phone. The touchscreen front is nothing but a gimick, and in fact obliterates usability. Pulling the phone out of my pocket to answer it, it's not uncommon that a finger will brush the front of the phone and cancel the call. Also, if I use it not on speakerphone, then often my face touching the phone will press buttons. Plus you can't hang up the phone without opening it.
3) In the shortcuts menu, the third and fourth position are dedicated to "Mobile Video" and "My Account". There is no way to change this to put something you actually use in prominent positions on your shortcuts menu. Also, in the contacts list, there's about 10 AT&T entries that you cannot delete.
4) Battery life is mediocre at best. I find myself charging it every couple days, and it charges slowly. There's no way to turn off 3G.
5) In setting up an alarm, there's an option to have it recur weekly, but it doesn't ask you what day you want it to recur on. If you want to set an alarm for 1:20 on Mondays, you have to wait until 1:21 on Sunday to set it.
6) The panel covering the battery loosens, and within a month it just slides off with no resistance. I had to tape it to keep from losing the cover.
In short:
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE. Noone has any business selling a device of such poor quality.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: When i first got this phone in july, i loved it! it was great for a texter like me. After about five months or so, problems started to occur. I found that the phone would keep dropping calls, there was a very sensitive touch screen, it can get scratched easily also..... currently, some of the messages are taking a long time to send. Sometimes they won't send at all. The messages in the chat box are also going out of order. I really wouldn't recommend this phone to anybody..... if you're thinking about getting a pantech impact, don't get it....if you have one and its having problems, i suggest that you should call the manufacturers and tell them to try to recall it.... in the meantime, At&t should take this phone off their line

Summary: Initially when I got this phone I thought it was great. I had no problems within the first month (just enough time for the warrantee to run out). After a month everything went wrong. My phone began shutting off randomly, failing to send texts when I had 4 bars of service, freezing etc. When I would turn my phone on and off after it would freeze, my texts would be deleted as would any drafts. Then the messages would sporadically come back. This phone has caused me nothing but headache. I shouldn't have to turn my phone on and off repeatedly to send a text.

Summary: I am trying to upgrade and don't qualify. The price for new cell phones are so outrageous (for any provider). I am looking for someone who has already upgraded their phone and is a decent phone, or a go-phone so I do not have to pay the extremely expensive price. I don't want anything fancy. I may just let go of my contract when it is over and use the prepaid ones. You can get a lot more for less. ATT has been a good service provider and not had any majors with them. They have been helpful to me. For me, they give good service. It is the phone problems what gets me. Having been a customer for 4 years, you would think, I could get a decent upgrade without having to pay a no-commitment price. This is one of the reasons, many people are buying go-phones for their upgrade on their contracts. It is not only the ATT customers. I would not reccommend this phone unless you had no choice. The pursuit is worse.
