Samsung Behold SGH-T919 - Rose (T-Mobile) price range: $119.99

The good: The Samsung Behold has an attractive design with a responsive touch screen. The feature set offers a range of options and call and photo quality meet the mark. Also, T-Mobile's 3G network is lightning fast.
The bad: The Samsung Behold lacks Wi-Fi and its memory card slot is in an inconvenient location. Speakerphone quality was just average and the Web browser wasn't quite up to par.
The bottom line: Though it lacks Wi-Fi, the Samsung Behold is a sleek touch-screen phone with a range of features and an easily understood interface.

No App Store
by johnc141 on January 4, 2009
Pros: Nice display, mostly intuitive, takes nice pictures, nice set of basic applications comes with the phone, blue tooth works well.
Cons: GPS slow or doesn't work at all. There is a fee for the GPS, GPS signal is free, why is there a fee? Web browser is slow, There is no Wifi. No app store, PC interface is not intuitive,

Summary: I bought the behold thinking it would be a suitable substitute for the iphone, which i was very tempted to buy. My reluctance to switch to its carrier however, prevented me from doing so, and i wasn't about to pay outrageous prices for the hacked version. I was content to live without wifi, because of the 3g access, but I am thus far not impressed with the speed. I was absolutely shocked to find out that there is a fee for the GPS service, considering that GPS signal is free. The absolute worse thing about the phone however, is the lack of an app store, apparently the phone is what it is and nothing more. That is crazy, most people don't buy hardware today, they buy the software that makes it do the cool things, and as cooler things develop, they expect to simply upgrade the software. Not to be too brash, the phone is nice, but... The key word is phone. In the end, thats all it is.

A huge let-down for an all touch screen phone!
by kshirola on December 20, 2008
Pros: Clear signal, no echo. Lots of functions. Compact design. Small.
Cons: Wasn't impressed with photo function. Touch screen left a lot to be desired!! Had a hard time navigating because the touch screen was so unresponsive. Hard to navigate. Frustrating. Going to be returning.
Summary: This is a sorry excuse for a touch screen phone. I have an iTouch iPod and this doesn't even compare. It's terrible. I hated it just playing with ...

Slick design, serious flaws.
by zinconinco on December 16, 2008
Pros: Very aesthetically pleasing design, speaker sounds great when listening to music, 5 mpx camera, small size.
Cons: Calls sound awful and are full of static, typing is a pain because of how small the "keys" are, won't call a business line with an extension, memory card hard to get to, too easy to select instead of scrolling.
Summary: This phone was a huge disappointment. At first I was very pleased with how it looks and the "gadgety" features that are completely unnecessary but fun (like the audio postcard ...
Summary: This phone was a huge disappointment. At first I was very pleased with how it looks and the "gadgety" features that are completely unnecessary but fun (like the audio postcard templates). But right away I noticed loud static when I make calls, except when using my Bluetooth headset. I gave up on text messaging because of how annoying typing was. The on-screen keyboard is tiny (even for my small fingers) and the auto-complete is lacking. The touch screen is very hard to get used to as it is too sensitive when scrolling but not very sensitive when tapping. You have to push pretty hard to select things and the calibration feature didn't work to solve this. Additionally, MyFaves stinks on this phone. It saves your Faves to your phone book as 3 or 4 different listings and even if you delete them, they show up again. One of the numbers I call regularly is a business line with an extension, and this phone can't handle that. And having to wait for the recording, bring up the keypad, and tap the numbers in is just a pain. Overall, this phone looks great but is not user friendly... unless you don't make calls or type anything.

Great Product for the PRICE!!!
by 112303 on December 7, 2008
Pros: Touch sensitive
Compact, Sleek design
5 MP Camera
Good Call Quality (compared with other phones on the same service)Cons: No WIFI
Browser not as great as iphone or the G1
Doesn't have a real GPS(internet based GPS w/subscription)
3G network good only in big citiesSummary: I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone who wants a cool touch screen phone.

Its not like an iphone or a G1 which has lot more functions than this phone. But if u can get this phone for a very low price its totally worth every penny. This is the only 5mp camera phone sold in the US with a service. It looks really good and has a nice feel in ur hands. It doesn't get scratches that easy. User friendly if u know a little bit about phones. Even though its not multitouch like the iphone it is a touch sensitive phone and is really great for texting with its touchscreen QWERTY keyboard.
The browser ain't that great and since this comes with t-mobile u gotta make sure that u have data coverage in the area where u gonna use the phone. T-mobile doesn't have a lot towers like ATT or Verizon everywhere. So if u live away from a city u will have to use the old edge technology which is really slow instead of the 3G. The omission of wifi in this phone is also something that i miss in a touch screen phone.
But people this is not a real smart phone and is not for people who run their lives on blackberries or even the iphone. So don't expect this phone to do the tricks that u expect from an IPHONE !!!!!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great Phone, Nice features, emails is not that good

Summary: This phone is an excellent phone if you are not going to use a lot of emails. To break it down this is the process you have to go through to read your email. 1) You receive a message that you have an email (not real time it takes a while before you get the message after your email is received). 2) You logging to your email account (Which takes a while loading even at 3G) 3) You have to select the new email from the list. 4) The email have to load (which you have to wait again to load). It took me about 5 mins just to read an email that said "Bring the books tomorrow". On the blackberry curve you just pressed one button and you get the full email on your phone and in real time. I believe this is a major flaw thats going to make people not to get this phone. Besides the email flaw the phone is an excellent phone with great features.

really good phone.
by aintnothang on November 27, 2008
Pros: 5mp camera, touch screen (great responsiveness), music player, size--- everything except the cons :)
Cons: as stated in other reviews, no wi-fi, no 3.5 mm headset jack, internet speed could be faster, the camera's a little slow.
Summary: I don't typically go for touch screens because of all the inconvenience that comes along with it, but after I played around with this phone at the t-mobile store, ...
Summary: I don't typically go for touch screens because of all the inconvenience that comes along with it, but after I played around with this phone at the t-mobile store, i instantly fell in love with it. The touch screen is extremely responsive, and the phone glides flawlessly. I love the qwerty key pad and everything. The downside is that I would have preferred a phone with a head set jack so I could ditch my mp3 player. Also, I would have liked it if the camera speed was faster because I love taking pictures. I cant complain though--- I'm not gonna get everything I want!

Slick phone, don't buy it for the camera

Summary: If you don't need a good camera and you're happy with Samsung's included earbuds or have a stereo bluetooth set of your own, by all means you'll be happy with this phone. As a sexy, gimmicky touch phone, this thing is great.
I went in looking for a way to replace my camera and mp3 player so I didn't have to carry three things around with me. I was entranced by the sexiness of this phone and brought it home only to find out that as a camera its terrible. Don't get me wrong, if your subject is standing perfectly still and you have 5 seconds to hold down the shutter, you'll get a nice 5MP shot. Otherwise forget it. It takes forever to get a shot off and if it moves slightly, its all blurry, just like any other crappy camera phone. That coupled with the proprietary headphone jack (you can buy an adapter, but no thank you) killed this phone for me. Oh and texting on a touchscreen just isn't for me.
So I returned it and got the Motorola ZN5. IF you want a REAL camera and a REAL MP3 player, this phone is WAY better. I'm very happy with it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Beware- GPS not ready for Prime Time Yet
by jburnsengr on November 23, 2008
Pros: Nice size, sleek design, bright screen, nice interface, solidly made

Summary: The reason I chose this phone was to get the turn-by-turn directions from the GPS with Telenav. THe phone itself looked good, felt good in the hand and pocket. We tried the GPS after activation in the store, and it never found a signal. We assumed that was because we were indoors. Unfortunately, it never found a signal at all- it would spend about 5 minutes calculating the route and give an error message that either the GPS signal was too weak or the connection to the server timed out. (I live in a densely populated suburb of Boston).
Long story short- I spent a couple of hours with three different tech support people at Telenav who finally told me the GPS on the phone was not working and to return it. Next, I spent an hour or so returning the phone. We tried another unit, and got the same result, even after confirming that my data plan with T-mobile was functioning and in order.
I can't say exactly if the problem was with the geographical area I live in, or the service. It appeared to affect more than just my phone. I walked over to a verizon kiosk in the mall, and their VZ Navigator worked indoors and came up instantly. Maybe it's a new product glitch they can fix, but check this function out in the store before you buy the phone.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
