For $50, you can't ask for more!
by SundayRunner on December 3, 2008
Pros: Full QWERTY, Good camera (I was impressed when I bluetoothed them to my computer and saw them enlarged), Good call quality (despite what the review said. I live in the NY/NJ metro area, sturdy, image editor (kinda fun), easy access SD slot.
Cons: menu Interface is a little generic, kinda "kiddy" looking (was hoping for something a bit sleeker - I don't need a chunky picture of a wrench to know that's the settings tool.
Summary: I got this phone for $50 with a 2-yr T-mobile contract, and so far it's impressed me with the call quality, it's very user friendly, hasn't frozen ...
Summary: I got this phone for $50 with a 2-yr T-mobile contract, and so far it's impressed me with the call quality, it's very user friendly, hasn't frozen up/freaked out (despite dropping it once), texting is fun and easy, so I guess what I'm saying is for texters within a certain sub $100 budget, it's a great phone!!

One of my favorites
by MixMasterBean on November 26, 2008
Pros: GREAT QWERTY keyboard, vibrant colors, fantastic function, automatic keyboard lock, convenient apps, user-friendly buttons, decent pictures
Cons: Battery life, not a lot of room for customization, not so comfortable to hold while talking

Summary: Overall, I do love this phone. But for text, calendar, and alarm alerts, you can only choose from a few stock sounds, and they all stink. I've had full keyboards before, and this is DEFINITELY up there if you're a texter. It is a bit difficult for the person on the other end to hear you very well, but it's not a big pain. And for the price, I totally recommend it.

Woth your money!
by EmeraldNg97 on January 11, 2009
Pros: It has a great camera unless it's dark light. Great calling quality to anyone. Texting is super easy because it's a full keyboard.
Cons: Battery is okay. Depends on how you use it. If you text more, it uses a litle battery. I charge it every other, other day.
Summary: Worth your money but i got mine for free...it's SUPER WORTH YOUR BUCK!!!

Easy And Fun Phone
by oakdale_dude on November 27, 2008
Pros: This is a very capable, easy phone to use. The messaging capabilities which is its drawing point is easy and straightforward. The slideout keyboard is slick and easy to type with. I have'nt experienced the poor call quality mentioned by the reviewer.
Cons: The phone's software seems a bit sluggish to me and the battery seems to drain quicker than other phones that i've used. I'm also dissapointed it does not feature voice dialing. Those were the only drawbacks for me.
Summary: This is a cool little phone for those of us who just need basic features. It is first and foremost a messaging phone and it excels in that function. It ...
Summary: This is a cool little phone for those of us who just need basic features. It is first and foremost a messaging phone and it excels in that function. It also meets the requirements for me in the other basic reasions why I need a phone. This is not a smartphone and it does'nt claim to be. So don't purchase this phone if you want smartphone features and capabilities. This phone does however do the things it claims capability for.

Summary: First off, I'd like to set the record straight regarding this phone's poor battery life so many others have been complaining about. IT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE. The battery indicator has 5 increments but it's a bit inconsistent and misleading in displaying the battery life. The first bar would be gone after the first day of use, the next 3 would go quickly in the course of next day or so, the last bar would last a full day, and the blinking warning would go on for almost another day before the phone finally quits. Bringing the total to 4 days of use per charge, which is not bad at all. It's a nice phone to have if you don't need a smart phone or take lots of pictures. It does what a normal phone is supposed to do very well. I got this phone primarily for it's QWERTY keyboard. I got so sick and tired of the very limited vocabulary of most traditional phones using T9 text. Calls are clear, reception is better than my old T629, and the phone is "faster" also. I have not experienced any of the "freezing" issues other have mentioned. The speaker on the back is real loud. Great for really loud ringer, speaker phone or to play music. Although a good pair of headset hooked up through an adapter would sound way better. Kind of disappointed in the dinky 1.3 mega pixel camera. But not a big deal. If want to take decent photos, I'd use my big camera anyway. The round 4-way directional key has shortcuts built in but they are not programmable. Two of the shortcuts are redundant and I hate them. "Up" takes you to the recent call list. Useless! Press the "send" button does the same thing. "Right" takes you to the camera. Once again, useless as there is a dedicated shutter button on the side that does the same thing. It's a big phone especially put side-by-side next to a Nokia Express; down side of a QWERTY keypad. The alpha keyboard is clearly back lit, made of soft rubber and gives a satisfying click as the button is pressed. Every button has more than one function with the selection of "Alt" mode. All function and navigation of the phone can be controlled via the second keypad so there is no need to flip the phone back and forth. Texting via the traditional 10-key and T9 text is also available. Good for them short messages. Two annoyances that are big bust for me. One regards to the web browser and the way it handles cookies. No matter how I set the cookie permission and priority, nothing ever gets saved. It got really annoying every time I check my email and have to enter my full user name and password. What's more annoying is when I search for movie listings, it never saves my favorite theaters. It got so bad I eventually stopped using the web browser all together. I have 3 desktop computers and a laptop at home, plus access to every computer at the office. I'll use those to get online from now on. The other thing that annoys me the mp3 player. One can't just load a certain file and play the song one at a time. Each file has to be part of a playlist. The playlist loads the files BACKWARDS, and I can't make any changes to the ordering of the files! Meaning the last song in the folder would be played first and the first song played last. This really sucks when I play mp3's that I've made myself from dance compilation CD's. When the files are played in the correct order, the music is supposed to never stop, just intermix and transition into the next song. I can no longer listen to that type of music with this phone. And that is perhaps my biggest disappointment with this phone.
In response to hkelly_44's question:

The answer is yes and no. Unfortunately the phone emits a little confirmation tone when a text message is sent successfully. You can silence the incoming alerts, turn off the key tones or set to a really low volume that's barely audible. But the confirmation tone will always be there. The only way to get rid of that confirmation tone is to set the whole phone to silent mode, which means your incoming calls wont ring or anything. If you want to covertly send text messages at work or in class, that's the way to do it. Hope this helps.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good phone, comfortable grip, qwerty keyboard too flat
by skywalker993 on February 16, 2009
Pros: Qwerty keyboard for fast text/email. Good feal in my hand. Front buttons easy to control. Menus were clear and led to good functions. Clear calls, and bluetooth is fastest i've seen in such a simple phone. Email application is EXTREMELY useful.
Cons: Bad camera (1.3 mp like most, but i want something more). No wi-fi or outlook, but that's ok. Qwerty keyboard is too flat... I have to use my fingernails, which is uncomfortable. Keys should be hard plastic and stick out more, like the front buttons.
Summary: Basically, it's a great phone with some useful applications and details. The keyboard would be great for someone with smaller fingers, and the email application is extremely handy. I'...
Summary: Basically, it's a great phone with some useful applications and details. The keyboard would be great for someone with smaller fingers, and the email application is extremely handy. I'm a student, and this is a great phone for communication with friends, family, and receiving important emails right when you need them! Some of the multimedia specifications were not accurately discribed, so I was surprised that there was no video player (other than videos you've taken on the phone). On that note, don't trust the "Compatible File Types" that you read on the internet. I've sent tons of short vids or pictures to the phone, and only 1 was readable. Other than the media goofs, this is a great phone and excellent communication device, especially since I got it and a bluetooth headset free.

Summary: I picked this phone up at T-Mobile for $50 which the mail-in rebate promptly covered. The "Samsung Gravity" comes with a full slide out QWERTY keyboard which makes it ideal for heavy texters. Comes with a built in memory space of 60mb and up to 4 gigs through MicroSD. I made the mistake of picking up a 4gb Sandisk MicroSDHC(Secure Digital HIGH CAPACITY) which isn't supported by the Gravity so that was $30 down the tube. The T459 ONLY supports MicroSD. The music player is about average, nothing to write home about. Good sound quality though the playlist concept is a little complicated.
Call quality is probably the lowest point of this phone. Maybe because this was aimed toward avid texters, they didn't put too much into actually hearing the person you're talking to but...its enough to get by. Speakerphone I find is absolute hell for the person on the other line.
Battery Life is another low point of this phone. After heavy use (texting, music, calls), I find myself having to set this on the charger every night to have it function at all in the morning.
In conclusion, this phone is better for some, than others. After a month of use, these are the only things I feel are bad about this phone. Despite all the cons, overall, this earns 4 stars in my book.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: very easy to use. great keyboard for easy texting. good camera although it doesn't take good pictures in the dark

Excellent Bargain!!!
by kjg2008 on December 26, 2008
Pros: Despite what the reviews have said about this phone, the call quality was pretty good. Its easy to navagate and toggle through menus. The keyboard is an excellent design.
Cons: The battery life is not what i expected. Maybe I have a phone with a defective battery, but for the bargain I got the phone for I think that problem can easily be resolved.
Summary: Excellent bargain for a 2-yr contract, I paid $30 for the phone.
