Samsung Intercept (Virgin Mobile) price range: $119.99

The good: The Samsung Intercept is a solid first foray for Virgin Mobile into Android territory. The phone brings with it a 3.2-megapixel camera, a great QWERTY keyboard, 32GB expandable memory, and the Android 2.1 OS.
The bad: Photo quality on the Intercept could be stronger, the screen could be larger, and the dimensions could be sleeker. We found the optical touch pad too small to be truly useful.
The bottom line: The Samsung Intercept is one of the most advanced and priciest phones for Virgin Mobile, but it's an excellent addition to the carrier's lineup.

a very good phone - quit yer whining
by JimBob88--2008 on January 2, 2011
Pros: The phone is responsive, nicely designed with a good keyboard. Phone calls sound crisp, internet , messaging etc is easily done. Android 2.1 is a pleasure to use and very flexible.
Cons: Battery life has to be watched - but it's not bad and you can always get a spare for short money. The soft keys at the bottom go dark pretty quickly and there's no obvious way to light them up without actually activating one of them. So?

Summary: I wanted to write this review because of all the horrible reviews of this phone. I switched to virgin and thought that if this product is truly this bad it couldn't be sold. I have unlimited data and I couldn't care less about RIM so I gave it a shot.
The result is that this is a very nice phone. It's snappy and does everything it does very well. From messaging to YouTube I have been really impressed. I've synced my mac mail with no problems, it picks up my wifi without a hitch, 1password has a free app - I'm a happy man.
As a mac user i was interested to see how android functions and the answer is :"very well thank you". In fact its main drawback may be its best feature: it's highly customizable and has 5 ways to do every function. Perhaps initially confusing but, find what works for you and stick with it.
If you have Virgin Mobile you owe it to yourself to get this phone for the simple reason that it let's you use your data plan to the fullest.
If I sound like a badly written ad I apologize. The thing does what it says it will do and does it well. I don't understand the problems listed here although perhaps people are accidentally hitting the touch screen when talking. My point is - you'r paying for the data and the lg touch (kind of lovable in a "specially enabled " way - is not going to get you there. This will and with style.
And if all this gushing isn't nauseating enough, I'd like to add that Virgin's customer service has been excellent. Signing up and keeping my old number was not a flawless process, but they helped my through it with patience and good humor.

Still Using this thing! It is a great phone as always.
by prev2013 on April 3, 2013
Pros: Best camera for price.
Overall a great phone with all the features wanted and most often I found it to have more feature than people use, or know about. I use 90% of it's features.Cons: ROM & RAM is the only thing that limits this phone. If it had just double this memory, and heck from what I saw on the LG copy of it with extra 50% more more, the performance is massively better.
Almost any issues this phone has is related to memory.Summary: If you know how to manage your phone memory, and can live with just a dozen apps installed, then you will be fine, and love this phone and save a ...
Summary: If you know how to manage your phone memory, and can live with just a dozen apps installed, then you will be fine, and love this phone and save a ton of money. It was basically a iphone competition, and it did a dam good job too, and better IMO. Compared to HTC, iphone, and others, the amazing camera performance for a 3.2 Megapixels is great. It is NOT a 3.2 result. It is a 5 Mega pixel result when you take a picture, or want to zoom. It has night vision ability too.
You can connect to your business, company, server email addresses, and to any emails like gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc. Has Facebook, google maps, local new, info, shopping, and other data.
This phone is old, but still dam great, and now you can get it cheap on places like Amazon, and Ebay.
My advice is NOT to upgrade the Google maps app on the phone, as Google does a crappy job in memory management and they seem to be ignorant and make their lame assumptions on how things should be or what people want like Microsoft began doing a long time ago. You can do without updating the Google Maps, as the results are pretty much the same, and you can live without the small advancements.
If you get a new phone that has not been tested, then on occasion, you may find it has a technical issue. Do not waste your time, and return it and get a replacement. -
Worst "smartphone" ever made.
by CMurr790 on September 19, 2012
Pros: The pink phone is cute and has a pretty flower design on the back, it's good if you like talking on the phone and the GPS worked pretty well (when it actually worked). There are no other pros.
Cons: Very slow, freezes all the time, the battery life isn't that long, it will kick you offline constantly, if you get a phone call while you are online, you will get booted offline, even if you reject the call, and the phone has almost no memory.

Summary: There are a lot of choices for smartphones, but if you are going to get one for yourself, don't bother looking the Samsung Intercept. It is the worst smartphone ever made and is definitely not as useful as any of the other Droids. It is painfully slow, the camera doesn't take photos in dark places, it has almost no memory, and it is just a nightmare to own. The only upside is that it is good if you actually like talking on the phone.
I had one from October 2010 to last August. It was my first smartphone and I got it on a special $30 deal. It worked very well for the first month or so after I bought it, then when Froyo upgraded to 2.2, it just seemed to stop working properly. It would freeze up whenever I was online, the battery would die after about 2 hours, the memory level would drop quickly because most of the apps wouldn't convert to the SIM card, and texting was a nightmare even with the slide-out keypad. When I tried to use the GPS, I would either get two voices (one giving me wrong directions) or I would get a "ding" when I had to make a turn (which the phone did on its own, because I never changed the settings). A few months before I was eligible to get a new phone, the "off" button stopped working and I would have to wait for the screen to time out (which meant I had to delete all my shortcuts from the screen so they wouldn't open on their own).
I hated it when I was out with friends and they were happily using their iPhones or other Droids and I would have to contend with such a horrible, slow phone. I have one friend who had the same phone, and his complaint was the same as mine.
Finally in August, after I had managed to avoid throwing my phone out of the car window or onto train tracks, I was eligible for an early upgrade. I checked out other phones and asked friends for recommendations, and in the end I decided to spend a bit more and get the iPhone 4. So far, I have no complaints after upgrading from the worst smartphone ever made to one of the best. I wasn't used to a phone that actually worked. I have no problems taking clear pictures (even in the dark), downloading apps, going online, or making phone calls now.
I would only recommend the Intercept for a teenager getting their first smartphone or for someone who wants a cute-looking phone. If you want something useful and fun, I would recommend looking at another droid or an iPhone. -
The worst phone ever made in history
by SuperWebb27 on September 12, 2012
Pros: Not one pro I can think of. If there were any pro's they are outweighed ten fold bythe cons. My sons Little Tikes phone has a better chance of making a phone call
Cons: Just about everything is wrong with this phone, i am so glad i picked this phone up on Black Friday for $40.00. Battery life is terrible i'm lucky to get a full day on a charge. Touch screen lags big time. Crappy call quality.

Summary: I always have issues with the phone not turning on. It has stayed on the Samsung screen for 2 hours, after continuously taking the battery out and restarting it I was finally able to start it. Sometimes it will not even charge. I have 3 Samsung chargers for this phone none of them work, I use a blackberry charger which works, I will charge the phone all night just to wake up in the morning to find it dead. It calls people randomly sometimes people I haven't called in months, but as long as its on my contact list there's a chance someone will be called at the wee hours of the night normally my boss who has talked to me twice already about receiving a call at 11:00pm -12am only to hear whole conversations i was having with my wife! Thank god I wasn't talking about him. I think some of the problems are from the weak processor and the partnership with Google which I'm guessing is always running some program in the background. I can say the only thing that does work ok is the gps I have went on may road trips using the navigator and it works great, although it drains the battery like in 1 hour, even when its plugged into my car it still dies and i have to pull off the road wait for it to charge up to %5 to start it up again. I will never again buy another phone from Samsung. I will try virgin again since they do have a great pricing system and I hate contracts. I will research my next purchase. If your thinking of buying this phone because of price don't, pay more to get a better product and it will save you some gray hair.

Summary: This is the WORST phone i have ever owned. I would never recommend this to aother person. It takes forever to make a call. The screen freezes up, the internet is slow, it randomly shuts off, battery life is horrible. It doesnt even last a day even when the apps are killed. It has a hard time charging too. But most of all, it is the slowest phone i have ever owned. I could name more issues this phone has, but that would take too long. Don't ever buy this phone.

The phone itself is like a high-school project....
by VisualPrecisionist on April 20, 2012
Pros: Can be easily rooted for full root access if you desire to tether and share your connection to a WiFi enabled device
Light weight phone
nice android UICons: Not a device that can handle dropping
VEEEEEEERY slow hardware. Can't upgrade the system because the hardware will not be able to handle it.
UI have too much insibility when other programs are running in the background

Summary: This phone is nice only if you are a person that kinda likes high tech gadgets and wants to explore your options. This could be something to try. I'm a fast pace person and I do not like when my cellphone cant keep up with what I do... But affordability is a must. I have to switch off to a iPod which makes it so bad. And this is just to text and play games. The only reason I bought this phone is because I really like qwerty keyboards for texting and I do not have wifi I can use at home and this is the only phone that is closest to a semi-2/3G Hotspot. This phone is overpriced and should not even be sold for 80 dollars. It very cheap hardware. I can obtain a better phone for the same price... I am not a plan user, I use prepaid phones only. In my buying travels I noticed that these cellphone companies are not selling good prepaid phones. It is as if they are making phones only for the prepaid customers that are to cheap to buy a phone that will lock them in a contract. Yet, the commitment you have to make to getting a plan is not something everyone wants to do. Sometimes, people want the same thing but for a cheaper price or a just non-commitment; locked in contracts without sacrificing quality.
