Nice phone, but could be better!
by dwaynepg on September 16, 2009
Pros: Nice bright screen, touch screen works fairly well, most features are easy to use, internet works good on it, nice camera with flash, quick link widgets are nice.
Cons: Battery life is average at best, want play MP's directly from micro-disc like it claims until they have been synced thru Verizon's v-cast and it's a pain, almost all Multi-Media text's are VERY small when opened and that is VERY frustrating!
Summary: I think Samsung/Verizon have a good product in the Rogue, but it could be a great product if it weren't for the drawbacks I spoke of. I hope ...
Summary: I think Samsung/Verizon have a good product in the Rogue, but it could be a great product if it weren't for the drawbacks I spoke of. I hope some future software updates will solve some of these issues!
The Samsung Alias 2 has a 2.6 inch screen and the Samsung Rogue has a 3.1 inch screen, not a HUGE difference at all and theres not much difference in the phones screen resolutions. The A2 opens the same MM text's at full screen to the Rogue's 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch screen view, and your trying to tell me that's normal for this phone!?! I have read other Rogue reviews on Verizons web site and others are having the same problem! This DEFINITELY looks like a software or phone issue.

Great features, easy to learn, very intuitive
by rcktgirl05 on September 16, 2009
Pros: Bright crisp display, excellent touch response, qwerty keyboard, widgets, nice camera with in-phone editing, picture slide show feature, threaded messaging!
Cons: lack of apps, calendar leaves much to be desired, no themes, youtube widget is waste of time, could use more personalization

Summary: First of all, I LOVE this phone. It is an unbelievable upgrade from my horrible chocolate 2 that I suffered 20 months with. I was all set to get the LG env Touch but then this came out right when I could upgrade and I liked how it slides instead of flipping open for the keyboard. The touch screen is not only brilliant, it is easy to use and I rarely have problems selecting items, even in the web browser. You can adjust how sensitive the touch feedback vibration is. Pictures from my old 1.3M phone camera look even better on this phone. I am totally in love with threaded messaging and the qwerty keyboard is nice. However, as soon as I bought the phone I put a plastic case on it and that decreases the room to touch the row of number keys on the keyboard. Not a huge issue, but it's there. My favorite messaging feature is that I set it to automatically start a new msg when I just start typing on the keyboard. I also love the favorites widget that brings up the contacts i designate (with pics if you set them). when i touch a fave contact, there are options to msg/call/edit right next to it. I was also surprised when I received a call that my phone not only rings, it speaks the name of the person calling if they are in my phone book! I also like the sensor that can tell when you have the phone next to your face or not... when you do, the buttons go black so you can't accidentally hang up or turn on the speaker... but as soon as you take it away, the buttons appear again.
Ok so it's been a little over 4 months. My big complaint now that I know pretty much everything about this phone... the text message storage. I still love the threaded messaging, but the whole way this phone processes text messages is not very intuitive. I have discovered that I am actually missing people's messages because of it.
So, that being said, I've had the phone for two days now and here are the things that I wish were different. I wish there was more flexibility as to what I can put in the widget bar. I would like to be able to add the web browser (or a personal link) for quick access, but you can only add apps from a pre-defined list. It would be nice to have a button in the widget menu to search for/add new widgets. Also, I think you should be able to arrange the order of widgets from the widget menu. The only way to do that is drag it off the bar and then drag it back over in it's new location. Another thing I don't like is the calendar app, but this is not actually a "smartphone" and here's where you see the difference. You can't have a repeating event that ends at a certain date, it either repeats forever or it doesn't. Also, you can't make it so there is no reminder, only choices are tone/vibrate/light only. One small issue with the qwerty keyboard is the smiley short cut. There is a smiley button (fn-space) that brings up a pop-up of common smilies, but you can't edit or personalize it, and it only works in a text message, not on a fb post or note. Also, there is no on screen qwerty in landscape mode, that would be nice if you could enable/disable it by personal choice. My only other "complaint" is with the picture storage. I would like to be able to create folders to organize my pictures (on my memory card at a minimum) and the widget for "my pictures" is not very usable... the only thing you can do with it is scroll one pic at a time and there is a button to set it as your wallpaper. An "edit" button on the widget would be nice, or "favorites" but again there is no real way to organize pics that I have found.
Overall, I can live with the "problems" I have found or maybe some of them can be fixed with updates. But this is my first touch phone and so so so much better than my last one, I'm sure I'll be happy with it for at least 20 months! And yeah my battery only lasted one day, but then again, I never really put it down... I was playing with it all day!
Updated on Jan 29, 2010
For example... let's say I get 2 or 3 new texts while I am away from my phone. When I look at the phone, the most current message will display for me to read. But after I'm done reading it, no matter whether I erase, clear, or hit the "return" button, it doesn't go back and show me the other two new messages for review. It goes to the home screen, with no indication of unread messages. So, every time I get a message and I haven't specifically had the phone out in front of me, I have to manually go back into the Messages folder and check to make sure I didn't get more than one. This is a horrible, horrible way to handle new texts.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

After Extensive Review - Best Phone Out There!
by cdmcfad on September 12, 2009
Pros: Stable, sturdy, trendy phone that doesn't sacrifice the keypad in order to accomplish the full-touchscreen cool. Beautiful OLED screen is envy of friends.
Cons: None for this phone - although some probs with Verizon, including blocking use of Wi-FI on all phones

Summary: Peformed extensive comparative study between EnV Touch (great), Omnia (stay away), Dare, Versa, and a few others. Rogue came out as the clear winner due to combination of big cool user-friendly touchscreen, great camera, retained keypad, abundance of apps, low price (free for me with new-every-two). In addition, 3.5mm headset jack makes using any other set of headphones a snap. So unbelievably happy with the features this phone offers, plus the feel-in-hand is natural and so easy to use.

Not a good phone!!! Dont buy.
by Emurp3 on October 12, 2009
Pros: The Pros to he phone is the Qwerty key pad
Cons: However, the main problem with the phone is this. It was introduced as an answer to the complaint about the omnia not having a qwerty keypad. So they give you this phone and strip away one of the most important features of the omnia. WINDOWS!!!
Summary: Bottomline, Now you no longer have the ability to download software without hacking the phone. Verizon wants to put a stop to people downloading the windows mobile wifi router (that ...
Summary: Bottomline, Now you no longer have the ability to download software without hacking the phone. Verizon wants to put a stop to people downloading the windows mobile wifi router (that was a free download at one point). Because this converts the internet you are required to pay for into a wifi signal for your laptop or computer, verizon stripped windows altogether from the phone so that you have to buy software from them, you have to pay for the internet, and you can't convert the internet signal into wifi without paying for it. They want to charge you for software, charge you for internet, then charge you for using it as a wifi. When if you are paying for unlimited data you should be able to use it as much as possible - even if converted into wifi.My recommendation is to get a windows 6.5 version phone - preferably by Samsung and then download wmwifirouter and all the other free software that comes with a windows mobile phone. I am going to do just that but I want one with a qwerty keypad, 5mp, and most importantly WINDOWS 6.5!!!
By the way, the reason this phone doesn't have wifi is because that is what the windows mobile wifi router software uses to send the wifi signal. Verizon doesn't want you using that free software like on the Omnia so they took it off the Rogue altogether and they are presently tampering with Omnia owners phones trying to get it wifi off to stop them from using it. I have the Omnia and when I used wmwifi router I got decent speeds of up to 125 kbs. But I prefer a qwerty keypad that is not touch screen because of my big fingers so I will dump it for another windows phone.

The phone I've been waiting for!
by ThornlessRose7 on December 10, 2009
Pros: Always been a Samsung phone fan, but this takes the prize! A combination of touch screen & multiple application versatility with a full querty keyboard and decent camera, with many delightful extras. Also, with Family Share Connect no data surcharge!
Cons: Touchscreen can be a bit over or under-reactive, but that is probably more me than the phone. I DO wish it came with a stylus and a place to store one - it has many options where using one works well (I borrowed the one from my pda to experiment).
Summary: They call the Rogue an "enhanced" multi-media phone and that is a good description. It is SO close to being a "smartphone" that I've taken to calling it a "...
Summary: They call the Rogue an "enhanced" multi-media phone and that is a good description. It is SO close to being a "smartphone" that I've taken to calling it a "semi-smartphone". It offers so many of the features of those that require the full data package that it was a no-brainer for us to get the Rogue for both my husband and myself, saving $30 a month per phone, and renewing our loyalty to Verizon for another two years (after being with them for 11 years we were toying with a switch, but nothing out there could BEGIN to compare with Verizon's coverage, and once we discovered the hidden secrets of the Rogue there was no more doubt.) Unreservedly recommend this phone and Verizon wireless!
I tried several times to get the page to allow me to rate this 5 stars, but it refused and marked it as 2 1/2. Just want to say this is, for me, a FIVE STAR rated phone. Thanks.

-Touch screen also: SUCKS!

Summary: I've had this phone for a year now. And it is the worse touch screen I've ever owned. One: it freezes ALL the time! if you drop it, the keys & touch screen gets jacked up, and it starts to get annoying. Touch screen breaks super easy, I had to replace this phone three times in just a year! qwerty keys on the keyboard get stuck often. Calling was stressful because of the fact of echoing. If you're planning to have a phone for more than 8 or 9 months, OR if you drop you're phone a lot. This phone is by far not for you. If you get it, WARNING!! DONT DROP IT!!!!!!!!!!!! it will break.

great but terrible...
by BEEPBOOPDEEP on October 3, 2009
Pros: it has a great camera, a really nice keyboard, and the screen is super bright and defined.
Cons: i have only had this phone for less than a week and it already freezes and lags more than 10 times a day. Sometimes you can't even turn it off when this happens, and you have to take the back off and remove the battery.the sound features are terrible
Summary: i wouldn't recommend getting it. the frustration outweighs the great features

Great hardware - Flaky Verizon UI
by ChrisP_59 on September 21, 2009
Pros: Gorgeous screen, easy to use qwerty keyboard, good calling quality.

Summary: I wanted to love this phone. I traded up from my LG Dare and was pleasantly surprised to see what looked like a familiar UI. After a week of trying to customize this phone, I am ready to give up and bring it back. The mobile email app, which worked well on the Dare, is broken on the Rouge. It will continue to check your accounts 24/7 and light up the screen as it does so. There is no option to restrict the time of day as in the Dare. This kills the battery. The shortcut bar on the left side of the display has icons for things like facebook, myspace and youtube but not for important things like contacts or email - what were they thinking?
Correction: While the "Widget" bar does not have a contacts icon, it is on the bottom menu bar - The other glaring omission is a browser shortcut.
I called VW tech support and the confirmed the problems and suggested I wait for a firmware upgrade.
I will probably wait for my contract to expire so I can be free of Verizon crippled phones.

Otherwise:
Battery life sucks. Voice recognition sucks. The browser sucks and you can't read emails with attachments even with their mobile email service.
The target audience for this phone must have been 12-year old girls. It certainly isn't ready for grown ups. LOL BBFN1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This phone at first was really good, but after 6 months it started freezing every five minutes. When I traded it in for a free new one, I didn't get another six months of okay using, it started doing that about two weeks after that! I recommend a walkie talkie rather than this phone
