The good: The Samsung Rogue has a gorgeous display, a 3.5mm headset jack, a great keyboard, and an impressive array of features that includes a 3-megapixel camera, EV-DO Rev. A, GPS, and a HTML browser with Flash Lite. It has good call quality as well.
The bad: The Samsung Rogue is a tad bulky, and the streaming video quality is poor.
The bottom line: The Samsung Rogue is a great multimedia touch-screen messaging phone for Verizon Wireless customers.

Great hardware detracted by Verizon's nickle & diming

Summary: I was the first person in my local Verizon store to purchase the Rogue. There is very little negative about the Samsung hardware. A couple basic layout items that I have issues with 1) power connector on the side and 2) headphone connector on the side. I do understand the reasoning, with the slide out keyboard it would be difficult to locate the connectors on the top and bottom, however it still needs to be mentioned, due to the fact that it is a little difficult to hold when plugged into power, and a little uncomfortable with the headphones plugged in and the phone placed in ones pocket.
Just an update. It's been about a month now since I've had the Rogue. I've only noticed one issue. I had a few occasions, about 2 or 3. where the phone randomly rebooted. No rhyme or reason to it. I proceeded to do a firmware update/reprogram *228 and have not had a problem since. I figured there would be some possible issues since this is a new phone and I got one of the first ones. Other than that so far so good. The battery life is excellent. Call quality is exceptional, and I love the screen. I still haven't explored all the possibilities with this phone, but so far I'm very happy and impressed. Samsung did an excellent job with this piece, and Verizon didn't screw it up too much with their proprietary software. I'll keep everyone posted as I explore the unit deeper over time. Enjoy!
The speed of the Samsung OS is very good. Screens refresh fast, sub-menus load quickly and applications launch at a very respectable speed. It has just about everything you would need in a integrated messaging phone. It would be nice if they made the unit a bit wider maybe 1/8" similar to the iPhone to give a bit more grasp for people with larger hands. This would also add to a slightly larger screen which would make this phone the closet thing to an iPhone killer out there.
The biggest issue I have with the Rouge has nothing to do with the hardware, it's Verizon. Having been with them for decades I don't dispute they have exceptional coverage in most areas, but their pricing has gotten ridiculous. The nickle and dime mentality is going to eventually kill Verizon mainly because people will be disgusted in not being able to figure out what they're paying for. That and the fact that they are expensive just leads to the frustration. Basically I have two phones with them on a family share plane w/ the new friends and family program. If I understand it my new bill will be around $140/mo plus tax for 1400 minutes shared, unlimited emails, data, txt, plus Vcast, and maybe VZNavigator, I stil can't figure that one out. The point is I wish Verizon and the other carriers would approach things like Sprint and Boost - flat fee for everything. I think $99 is not bad for a complete voice/data package, Boost's $50 is much better, but their Nextel network just isn't great, so you get what you pay for. After all these years I still think I'm getting robbed with Verizon. I know it's less than AT&T's iPhone plan, but still it's just ridiculous to spend $150 for a data/phone plan without unlimited everything.
So in conclusion, the Rouge, I'm extremely happy with it. I didn't want another Microsoft mobile device, because Windows mobile is TERRIBLE. I didn't want a Blackberry because the QWERTY is difficult for me, and the STORM, well it's slow and problematic, so with that said the Samsung had everything I was looking for without the issues of Microsoft or RIM. It's slick, has an awesome screen, will probably do everything you want it to, and add a 16Gb microSD card, in my opinion you have an excellent alternative to an iPhone with the bonus keyboard. Samsung, so far you hit a homerun with this handset. Now hopefully it will last two years!

Pros: Amazingly clear, large, bright and colorful AMOLED Screen, HTML Internet, Cool Movable Widgets, Touch Screen, Great Audio and Video, 3.0mp camera with flash and dslr options like iso settings etc...,QWERTY keyboard, Micro SD, Headphone Jack, Sleek!!!
Cons: Touch Screen isn't as good for web as iphone, thus zooming in etc... but still nice, Very few apps but it's a new phone, battery life isnt amazing but it's a large bright screen so it's ok....buy an extended and you r ok, other then that....nothing!!

Summary: I used to have an iphone and it was great, I love the apps and being able to jailbreak it and never have to pay for anything ever was amazing and illegal, but amazing too and then I kept having to pay over 200$ a month for BULL **** charges and roaming charges and extra data plans bs and it was just one thing after another, terrible phone service and the iphone just got old, if you are a child who plays video games then the iphone is for you....so I switched back to Verizon once again and bought a Samsung Rogue and I could not be happier. The second I turned it on and saw the bright screen and vribrant colors I was freakin blown away. It's seriously worth it just to buy for 99$(after 100$ mail in and 2yr contract) just to see the colors on the phone, it's insane.The screen is just an added bonus that makes everything surf on the web and text sent seem like eye candy. Seriously, web pages are bright and crsip and work fine, unlike some reviewers said, you can watch most flash videos because it has flash lite(not perfect, but better then the iphone) and the audio and voice command features are great. The 3.0 mega pixel Camera is the best I have seen with built in flash and auto focus and the list goes on....the video is excellent and the options to send videos and pictures are amazing. This is a texters dream phone with nice slide out full QWERTY keyboard with illuminated keys for the night time porn(just kidding, no I am not). Texting is fast and easy and the added touch screen features make it a breeze if you mess up a little. I just love this phone, yes there are some minor minor flaws, but overall it's an excellent phone with amazing features and it's not an iphone killer cause of the lack of apps, but if verizon opens this up to designers and coders it could be...it's sleeker and fits in you hand better than and iphone and has many of the same features, but better options or additions to them and the little things like not a long battery life and no touch zoom for internet are out weiged by everything it does brilliantly..Samsung has made a killer phone, verizon helps out byt giving me unlimited everything for about 110$ a month, which includes minutes, texting, web, vz navigator(which is actual turn by turn, unlike the ******** iphone crap blue dot gps) and I can watch tv and movies with great quality on it too....it never ends...hope this review helps...in short, it's not a busniess phone like the blackberry models, but it has similar cool features and it's not a app machine like the iphone, but the screen and widgets and texting make it an excellent phone till your next 2 yr upgarde comes up...I think it's the best verizon phone hands down...my sister's blackberry sucks and eats up battery and all it's good for is email and having a million contacts, no fun....this cell phone is fun, sleek, beautiful, amazing, sexy, crazy, ***** and better than the iphone...well sort of..I liked the iphone, just not att.....if you want a great phone for multimedia, texting, and everythimg the balckberriess and iphone have, but more...then grab a samsung rogue...you can't beat it for the price....there are some little things that get annoying, but not nearly as much as my old iphone or blackberry....I promise you won't be disapointed at all.....!!!!! BUY A ROGUE, very cool phone

Pros: Yes, i was one of those people that had been waiting for the release of this phone with baited breath. So the day it came out, i got it. I have had nothing but success with this phone (upgraded from EnV2). IF you have a data plan, its a great phone.
Cons: I was taken by surprise when i was told that it was a "premium" phone, and required a data plan, besides that no problems, except poor audio quality on Youtube and so far only 14 apps compatible with the phone.
Summary: Overall, awesome phone for somebody who would like to have e-mail on the go. If the data plan is what is keeping you from getting the phone, my suggestion would ...

If the data plan is what is keeping you from getting the phone, my suggestion would be to get the Connect plan, which gives you unlimited MB's, and unlimited text, but doesnt give you the VZ navigator or VCast Video (you dont even really need VCast videa because you have Youtube, and you can use Google maps for a navigator).

Cons: back speaker quality, txt messages does not keep up when you are typing. when you take it off of lock or push it half the time the screen splits into 2 different screens and you have to take the batter out because it locks it

Pros: Camera, camcorder, video editing, Flash Lite, TouchWiz, HTML browser, picture editing, document viewer, email capabilities, self portrait mirror, call quality, interface, screen, battery, price, Bluetooth, EVDO (3G), games, and about everything else.
Cons: None, so far.

Summary: This is a luxury phone, with great features, at the greatest price tag for what is has, some of the rare findings are a standard video editor, slide show maker, Flash Lite, 3.0mp camera with flash, video, and all sorts of hidden camera features, like you can make a mosaic, there's different settings as to what it will insert, it will take multiple photos, and then it will make it into a format (to hard to describe in just a review), it has photo editing like sharpening, blurring, black & white converting, inserting text, lowering contrast (contrast is preset, but it's different on each setting for how the photo looks). The reason I stumbled across this, was because my parents got this, and I got my hands on it at an event, and I couldn't stop marveling at it's features until the battery died, about 6 hours later. The Youtube was even faster than my computer, thanks to a speedy 3G connection. I showed my parents some of the features, and that just blew their mind. A document viewer, video and photo editor, HTML browser, Flash Lite, full email capabilities (I don't have a corporate email account), TouchWiz interface, Vcast services, a 3mp camera with flash, self portrait mirror, different ways of making your photos "pop" like the multi-photo merging to make awesome photos and the backgrounds and borders (like at the bottom of one, there's money), dice simulation with vibration and sound feed back like regular dice. That's not even the beginning, there's a much loved 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth capabilities (voice and stereo), 6 hour (for me anyway) battery life, great preloaded games (the trials, but still great), and so much more, it would take me an hour more to describe it. Now for the feature reviews:
the camera takes photos that rival the capabilities and quality of a regular digital camera (I'm talking about the regular slip-in-your-bag cameras, because those are the most popular), it may take short videos, but with so many camera features, and such good quality, it even rivals SLRs (professional photographers camera), and costs about 10 times less than most nice cameras. The camera has a great array of features, that even a professional photographer would even throw their old camera away for this, for it has a way for you to take one photo at a time, and have it put together in different forms, there's even a setting that lets you put 9 photos together in boxes, as if your family (or what you are taking pictures from for that matter) were The Brady Bunch. You can also have it put a border around your picture, or a partial border (like on one border, your face would be surrounded by a border of hearts and in the shape of a big heart, and in one partial border, you can make like a pool of money under you). By far, it is very simple to get to that, just press a button on the side (but you must know that it is hard to take a self portrait with some of the camera features, but the mirror still helps, a lot). Now, the camcorder has most of those features, so I won't go into that, but video quality is great as well. The video and picture editing, you can sharpen, blur, make color to B&W (black and white), grayscale, and plenty more, even to change it to look like the worlds gone to the wrong color lens. It can make a slide show of 3 pictures or videos, and also insert text, and you can decide when it will change (I recommend just doing it with photos, so you won't cut off any video), and nothing is easier to use, or integrated (because this comes standard). The Flash Lite allows the Youtube widget to work (but I recommend using 3G, because otherwise, it will take awhile to load), and well, it just works extremely good in picture and sound, but the only downside, it doesn't work in the HTML browser, only in the widget (for me anyway). The TouchWiz interface, is just like a piece of cake when you get used to how you drag it out and in and know how to make sure you don't drag it out when your trying to open it, which comes after an hour or to of use. The TouchWiz interface allows you to easily customize your interface by simply dragging in and off your home screen, the screen stays the same even when you slide up the keyboard into landscape. The HTML browser is only one word: fabulous, I can't describe it any other way, and it hard to put into words. The document viewer views and edits word documents, and is terrific. The email is great, with web mail, and corporate (with special contract), and you can view it in the web browser, or have it download. The rest, is just terrific, especially the call quality, for it has almost crystal clear reception, except on the road, where you'll be driving. The people on the other end marveled at how clear it was, especially since I switched form AT&T, and I thought it sounded like a landline. Finally, the best of all, the price. The Samsung Rogue is $99.99 form Verizon Wireless with a 2 year contract. For all the features, I'd turn down an Iphone 3GS, and recommend this.5 out of 5 users found this user opinion helpful.

Third Rogue, and Counting. Realy Terrible Phone.

Summary: Although this phone has some good features, it has a long way to go. I'll start off by saying that I'm not one my THIRD ROGUE. That should say something about how reliable this phone is. The first two had such awful freezing problems that they both had to be replaced within a 2 month period of time. Now, I'm on my third Rogue, which has a defective keyboard that is incredibly different than my other Rogues (thanks,Verizon).
The phone has a great 3.0mp camera (although you would assume that it has a 5 or 6mp camera based on the great photos) with lots of features. However, the file size of your photos are so large that it defeats the purpose of picture messaging - a lot of other phones simply cannot receive the files.
The only good things I have to say about this phone are the good call quality and nice browser. Remember, this isn't a smartphone.
Although it may not seem like I posted many "cons", the ones I type out are very difficult to cope wth, especally the slow touchscreen, nightly charging, and slow touchscreen. Do yourself a favor and don't get this phone!3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Pros: Don't know where to start from the gorgeous screen to the easy use, its all amazing.
Cons: Battery life can run up quickly if you use the internet, messaging and email alot, but if you just use it normally it will last you just fine.

This was my experience with the Samsung Rogue by Verizon: it performs only one function at a time (this includes the music player; you cannot play and browse your music files at the same time!); the QWERTY keyboard is VERY awkward due to poor design; it comes with few apps, and there are even less available from Verizon; the games are only demos (nothing is free at Verizon); ring tones must be downloaded through Verizon; this is not a smart phone, yet a data plan is required(min. $9.99/month); this phone is wrapped up tight with Verizon proprietary software, so what you get is all you are going to get. I had my Rogue for 3 days. During that time, the phone locked up numerous times (often with the beautiful screen going white) while using Bluetooth, VCast music player, and while using the internet. Could be a bad phone, but the rep at the Verizon store said that was not the case. Have one and want to trade it for something that functions reliably? For a $35 "reshelving" fee, Verizon will be glad to help. Cheers to Big V.
