The bad: The Sanyo Taho has a 2.5mm headset jack. Voice quality was distorted at the higher volume levels, and the speakerphone wasn't the best.

Great Phone For Outside Activitiesby 40SW on March 30, 2011

It's great for camping, hiking or fishing & hunting it can take the punishment. A phone that fits in with outdoors industries where smartphones and blackberries can't survive. It truly the go to phone when the going gets tough and takes on job.
This is not just another pretty stylish phone, it's a tough looking mug phone for work and play.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

This is the phone for which many of us have waited
by helodoc1 on February 22, 2011
Pros: Extreme ruggedness! I work "In the Field" and this phone is subjected to daily abuse. Also, I bluetooth this device into the intercom system on my motorcycle (40k miles/year) and it is impervious to vibration, dust and water. Replaces my Sanyo 7050.
Cons: Sound can be an issue if you are used to holding the phone against your ear during a call. Hold the phone a millimeter or two away from your ear and the issue is resolved. Better yet, use the exceptional speaker phone for absolute clarity.

Summary: As stated in the 'Pros' section... this phone takes durability to a new level! My Wife & I have used the same model phones for the last 4 years. Our last model was the durable Sprint Sanyo 7050. My 7050 fell from a helicopter at 100 feet and survived, so when the screen failed after 4 years of abuse, I was absolute in my decision to find another Sanyo phone of like-or-better quality. My timing was right as Sprint had just announced the Taho. After several months of use, my Wife wanted to upgrade too, but was uncertain. I demonstrated the durability by overhand throwing the phone across the room then dropping it into a sink full of water! I then called her old Sanyo 7050.....We now have two (2) Taho's in the family. I love this phone! I work in remote locations and have had connection issues with Motorola phones. Since I switched to the Sanyo brand with Sprint coverage....connectivity is not an issue. Sanyo phones with Sprint service are an amazing combination. Usually, I am the the only crew member able to make a 'voice' call when others (verizon, at&t, and t-mobile) are lucky to be able to send text messages. In addition, this phone connects Via Bluetooth without issue to both my motorcycle's Garmin 550 GPS and my Wife's BMW 330XI's I-Drive. Extreme environmental conditions like vibration, rain and dust are no match for the Sanyo Taho by kyocera. This is as good as it gets for rugged, commercially available cellular phones...and you get internet too!
This is definitely NOT the phnoe for your 20-something AT&T I-Phone user, but if your are looking for a phone that can make a call in-the-middle-of-nowhere, connect to the net and survive a freak thunderstorm or the occasional drop from elevation into a mud puddle this IS your phone!
Sprint has been good to us over the past many years. Their service is reliable and comprehensive. We look forward to several years of reliable, durable service from this compact, rugged phone.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Finally a durable phone for talking
by Atomic21 on January 18, 2011
Pros: You dont have to baby this thing. It was raining outside today and I was talking on it without worries. You can drop it and it's fine. The battery lasts forever on 1 charge. Reception is awesome. Bluetooth connection works well. Grippy surfaces
Cons: It's big by today's standards, no surprise there. It is smaller than many smartphones though...

Summary: It's a really durable phone for talking. It's probably one of the best I've bought in a long time. You're obviously not going to get this phone if you want the things smartphones have to offer. I'm on an old sprint non-data family plan that's super cheap so I actually bought this outright for $300 (the savings in my monthly bill will make up for it in less than a year). I could see this phone being great for outdoorsy people, people out in the country with bad reception, construction/contractor folks, and even elderly (who can benefit from larger/clearer keys, better grip surfaces, and who might be prone to dropping things).
It is large by todays razor thin standards, but it's not any bigger than my wife's 3 year old flip phone nor my friends smartphone.
I hope this phone does well so the industry see's there is a market for durable regular phones so we're not all forced to upgrade to the ridiculously priced data plans.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

When I first picked up the phone, I thought "great ! .. it actually fits my hand and the tiny button are gone on the keypad". My first call was crystal clear and I live in the boonies. Strong reception, too .. now I get 3 bars instead of 1 bar from inside my house. Customizing the phone was a piece of cake .. just follow the menu and pick your choices !1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

"a Nextel quality phone, without the direct connect"

Summary: I have been using nextel phones for the past 12 years and I have tried many cdma wannabe phones. None impressed me at all, except the Taho. I just switched jobs so I no longer need the direct connect feature, but I still need my phone to be durable. This phone can stand up to just about anything I have thrown at it so far. I had never had a sanyo phone before and I was a bit worried about the quality having come from nextel. But all in all I am very pleased. The phone feels a little cheep when you first hold it, but it really is a solidly built phone. The call quality was also impressive. The keypad is very easy to see and use aswell.
If you are looking for a solid rugged phone with great call quality, or are simply a nextel fan trying to trasition from iden to cdma, the Sanyo Taho is a great choice. I would recomend this phone to anyone.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Best Phone I've Owned
by smoo93 on August 4, 2011
Pros: The Sanyo Taho is a very rugged phone. Between my construction work and my outdoor lifestyle (climbing, cycling, kayaking, etc.), this phone has taken it's fair share of beatings, but continues to live another day. It's been put up to sand, heat, drops,
Cons: The phone is pretty bulky compared to the average cell phone, but that is a small tradeoff for the durability. Call quality could be a lot better, as well as the speaker phone clarity. There is a very short (almost unnoticeable) delay when pressing the

Summary: I had the option of purchasing a smart phone over this phone when my contract came up for renewal, and I'm glad I got this one. I've fallen into rivers with it, dropped it onto brick and gravel from 10'+ high, and talked on it in the pouring rain, and it's been fine. Though the call quality suffers, that doesn't bother me nearly as much as the key delay when texting. I use texting a lot for work and for personal purposes, and having to text slower to make sure my message isn't garbled is very annoying. If you have the opportunity, I suggest you try it out at the store and see if you can deal with this problem. I have been able to get past it and now have a phone that has, and will continue to, last through almost every challenge I put it up to.
Overall, a fantastic purchase and absolutely worth it. -
Poor upgrade from the Katana!
by skiludd on May 25, 2011
Pros: Rugged, has SD card, and voice dialing.
Cons: Measly 40 meg memory in phone, poor speakers, antenna still on bottom of phone (sometimes required you to turn phone upside down to get signal. When in roaming mode, has a tendency to stay in roving mode even though you are in service area. While in rovi

Summary: Have had four different Sanyo phones. Poor upgrade from the Katana. Not worth the price. They could have added an additional antenna in the top section of the phone instead of the bottom only. A 1 Gig internal memory would have been a much better upgrade. Program for roaming needs to be looked at. Sometimes have to turn off phone then turn it on just to get service area signal for internet use. The old Katana had beeter signal reception than the Taho! Can't use many applications offered today. Very limited in performance. Would not recommend it to anyone. Last time purchasing Kyocera / Sanyo phone. Am on the third replacement Taho phone from Sprint. Still no improvement.

This phone is a waste of money.
by hi_aaron_howareyou on May 8, 2011
Pros: It is big, and covered in rubber to look tough.
Cons: I had my first one last a month. I did note receive calls, I had trouble receiving when I people left messages, and the phone would call others while in my pocket. Much of the problem my lie with Sprint, but new Taho has lasted 6 DAYS. Sprint custo
