Worst Phone You'll Ever Buy ... So Don't

Summary: I'm a Verizon customer who bought this phone because it appeared to have everything I wanted in a compact little cell. What I got was a messy, fussy, poorly supported phone that's the worst I've ever experienced. Its voice dialing capability, a pretty big feature, I'd say, isn't even discussed in the user manual. I had to call UTStarcom (they bought Audiovox's cell phone division and will probably live to regret it) to tell me how to access it, and the solution requires programming SEPARATE from that which you'd normally perform when entering a new contact you want to be able to voice dial. Further, now that I have a few contacts on my voice dial list, UTStarcom tech support can't tell me how to activate it. The ringer volume, even when set to high, is inadequate (particularly when compared to any LG I've had, which will wake the dead). Most of the Web sites I browse aren't set up for the phone's landscape format, which means the display seems offset to the left of the screen rather than centered. Lastly, the Verizon version of this phone comes with a screensaver, which annoyingly activates every 5 seconds and has no intuitive way to turn it off. Tech support couldn't help on this one, either, and the manual doesn't address the matter. And while I'm on the issue of tech support, UTStarcom had a bear of a time helping me because the menu on the phones they had seemed different than the one I have. For example, they told me to hold down the send key to activate voice dialing, which appears to work for them but definitely DID NOT for me. I'm getting rid of this terrible phone TONIGHT, and not a second too soon.

Summary: I don't know why this phone was given such a low rating, I think it at least deserves a 7, its got standard features, a browser, email, and Instant Messanger. The screen is big, but the camera isn't the highest quality. The phone is a great conversation starter, people always come up to me and ask me about the phone. great way to meet girls. i have had the phone for 3 months and haven't had a problem.

Dared To Be Different, And I Don't Care!

Summary: I chose this phone because it was unique and different among all the rest. Am not too worried about picture quality (I own a digital SLR), don't need an MP3 player (already got an Ipod), don't care to 'surf' on a cell phone (got a computer for that), and can't see why others are complaining about its features.
I basically wanted an ordinary phone with little 'quirks' on it. All I wanted it to do was make and receive calls. I really like the earpiece audio level on this phone because I'm able to hear the conversation (my old LG VX4400 couldn't compare to my cdm180), although I wish the speakerphone audio was a bit louder. As for the ringer audio, it's okay for me but could also use some improvement. The navigation key is somewhat small and is a nuisance because of accidentally cancelling a function, but I got used to it and adapted. But the screensaver is one that i definitely hate and could do without. There should've been a menu to disable it. And because of its short and stubby size, it doesn't bother my flabby side when I wear it on my belt. I don't have an ego trip where I need to show off to everyone else what I have.
All in all, I enjoy owning this phone because it's different. Why should I follow everyone else and own a phone with features that I'll probably never use in my lifetime? Why should I play games, surf the 'net or listen to music on my phone, only to find that my phone won't work because I killed the battery by doing all those things? To me, that's all just egomania.
With this CDM 180, I got my money's worth and am proud to be an owner. To others, it may be ugly, but to me, it's beautiful and performs to my expectations.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Okay,,,, I would like to say that My phone arrived 2 days ago. I am more than happy with the CDm-180. However 3 days ago before it arrived I started reading reviews online and was very skeptical that the phones quality would be beyond terrible. I could not find one good review Folks! People talked about the camara having blurry images, how the reception was bad, but Most of all, the Appearence of the phone. One website reffered to it as the "DANNY DEVITO" of all telephones. Short and chubby! Folks don't beleive this! Best phone in the world. It is so unique, the camaras quality is even better than my $650 digital camara, fast web browsing, great reception, awesome "landscape" screen, hot ringtones, I can't say enough good things about this phone. Obviousley the people who referred to it as a Short and Chubby, terrible phone, are the superficial people who should be purchasing a more feminine phone like a pink razorblade phone with swavorski crystals
Maybe they aren't "man" enough to handle a sexy , unique Phone Like this. CDM-180 IS THE BEST PHONE EVER! oh and not to mention ABC has rated it one of the worst products of the year. Well folks, lets boycott ABC's superficial ass's and purchase more of these phones! Go CDM-180!

Summary: I was looking for an inexpensive no contract verizon phone and fell in love with the looks of this phone. Despite a lot of negative reviews I took the plunge and bought it and was so glad I did! I never experienced any of the stuff people complained about. In fact I really can't think of anything negative about it.
Whoops! I meant to give it 5 stars!!!

Best phone you could buy!

Pros: Very good for messaging. The communication through talking is amazing.

Summary: In my honest opinion, this phone is possibly the best one you could buy at the price it is set at. Where else can you get a phone that stands out from the rest, with the price tag under $30 bucks off the internet. The phone cannot be beat with an older style method of texting using t9 word, but still not compared to a QWERTY keyboard. THE BEST PHONE YOU CAN BUY!!!! LOL...

Summary: I got this phone last December. Worst decision I made. I was never told that it was an internet deal only and that it would be discontinued shortly after. Little things started to go on it. The volume I had to manually set and couldn't just use the button on the side.... then it started to malfunction and vibrate and dial numbers on its own... apparently it has water damage now when its never been around water. I was told that even if its left in a hot car it could develop moisture damage. NICE... The insurance is crappy b/c at this point they can't replace the phone i'll have to pay the 50 deductible and then more money to get another phone since they can't provide me this one.

Summary: I wish I had a dime for every time I hit "OK" in the middle of the jog switch on this phone. It is so easy to delete, cancel, approve, etc, when you don't want to, it's sickening. My fingers aren't "that" big, and I'm not a big klutz, usually. And forget playing a game to pass the time; when I try, I keep hitting "OK," which cancels the game. Also, you cannot take memos with this phone. And, although it's not unique to this phone, you can't see the screen in daylight at all, for those who may be interested in that. I'll have a new phone by the time you read this. There may be worse phones out there, but this is the worst phone I have ever owned.

Disappointing
by trvshvmn on November 14, 2006
Pros: Horizontal screen is nice on the eyes. No problems during actual conversation. Good for shallow pockets.

Summary: My problem is not with the battery, though having read previous reviews I might expect to. I used this phone as an alternative to a land line, but I didn't use it as much as that suggests. Now after 3 months, the phone, unless left completely still, will spontaneously call the last number it was in contact with. Also, the side button for changing master volume stopped working for a bit recently, so I imagine that will be completely gone soon as well. I did get used to the appearance, but it's not worth the ridicule you get from people who haven't had the time to adjust.
Not even worth the taxes if you get this phone for "free".
