Kodak Printer Dock Series 3 - A great little printer
by LaVonD on March 29, 2010
Pros: I have printed numerous excellent photos with this printer over the past couple of years. Prints on a 4X6 paper with a border purchased in packs of 20 blanks.
Cons: aws unused for months; when I try, only prints half a picture. The right half facing the printer is blank, the left side is beautiful. Tighten the cassette film/did not solve the problem and I can't find a solution or a place where I might send it.
Summary: The above states my feelings: I love the product but pray that you have no problems for customer service is NONEXISTENT!

Easy printing decent printer overall, not bad on the price of the printer or prints(as low as $0.29)
by min.darren on November 21, 2005
Pros: Stands up to heavy printing use, nice color, very simple paper and ink installation, very quiet, paper and ink packs are the most widely availible that I've seen for Dye-Sub printers
Cons: paper can get snagged when coming out the back of the printer, installation on comptuer "too simplified" and didn't work by itself,
Summary: I'm a simi-pro photographer and I bought this printer to do print photos on-site at events. My main reason for bying it was the 160 print pack availible at ...
Summary: I'm a simi-pro photographer and I bought this printer to do print photos on-site at events. My main reason for bying it was the 160 print pack availible at Best Buy (and many other electronic stores). This was the largest package and at the best price. The cost of the printer was competative too. I also trusted the Kodak name for "easy" products. I would probably go with a more sophisticated printer for my own personal use, but for on the road, this is good for me.
I have a fuji finepix 4900 camera and bought the printer only to print from my laptop.
Physical set up of the printer was ok, but with the exception of the fact you only know it's powered on when you first connect the powersupply. After the 'status like check' the printer lights remain black until a print has been sent to the printer.
Driver / software setup was a hassle. I knew about outdated software, so I downloaded directly from Kodak's website and installed (54mb download!). However, after doing all that I couldn't get a response from the printer. the istructions said to uninstall everything and download and reinstall again. Hesitantly I did it to no avail. I talked to tech support and after convicing them that I'd done their steps already, we got to an issue with bi-directional configuration. Once that setting was changed the printer printed just fine from then on.
I printed over 120 photos (almost back to back) that first night of using it and only 2 picures of of the batch had any printer flaws (one small white 'speck' in the the print) Other than that opporation was flawwless.
One gripe howerever is that when you send multiple prints to the printer, and an error happens (out of paper or printer ribbion is empty) then it clears the print que without your knowing it. The status lights indicate the error (you have to read the manual to know what they mean though) but the computer says nothing. I ended up having to have some people wait while 20 other prints came out ahead of theirs becuase of this error. And at a 1.5 minutes per print that was a long wait. My solution was to stop sending more than 2-3 prints at a time to the printer.
I was happy with the software, it automatically copied the pictures off my camera to a drive on my computer. However, it never took the photos off the camera so if I didn't clear the camera myself and reconnected it to the software, I would get double copies of the older files.
The software does live up to it's name "Easy share" and indeed is that. Cropping and other adjustments can be done quickly, but I don't like the default image 'enhancements' and usually turned rejected the software's suggestions. They always seemd to 'wash out' the image rather than enhancing it.
Again, overall I was impressed with the price and consitant quality under the work I gave it. People often remarked how nice the prints were.
If you already like this printer weather you have a compatible camera or not, I say it's worth it.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Not easy to use at all, very frustrating

Summary: I tried to replace the ink cartridge and had the most difficult time removing the original cartridge - no instructions and no customer support help. It took about 2 hours to do take it out, requiring me to unscrew and disassemble the entire device. After I finally removed the ink cartridge, and installed the new one, it never worked after having taken it apart. This was the most frustrating. The second greatest hit was trying to get the camera interface to read the camera. this was only about 1.5 hours. The one positive note about all of this is that it is easy to print once it works and the photo quality is not bad.

Paper Jams. Software issues. Printing problems. Poor.
by boilermaker52 on April 2, 2011
Pros: Nice Photos when it works.
Cons: Constant paper issues. Constant firmware issues. Constant print head issues. Bad to be replaced one already. Now prints on bottom half of page for some reason. Trouble every time I try to use it. Not at all reliable.
Summary: Stay away from it. Kodak was no help except to sell me a rebuilt unit. Same problems. I would NEVER buy another one of these. I'm very good with ...
Summary: Stay away from it. Kodak was no help except to sell me a rebuilt unit. Same problems. I would NEVER buy another one of these. I'm very good with this stuff but this unit is nothing but problems. Anytime I try to sit down and print pictures I have to go through leaps and bounds to get it to work. I have to hand feed it every time no matter what I do to try to get the paper to feed. Out of the clear blue it starts printing just the bottom of the sheet like the print head has some unhinged. I hate this thing and would NEVER recommend it to anyone! Sorry. Kodak sucks.

Great Concept--Faulty Design!
by hair_doc on October 30, 2008
Pros: The idea of my 8 and 5 year olds take their own pictures and print them out easily is awesome. They were able to do it! However...
Cons: The poorly designed ink was difficult to insert, was easily damaged and costs a fortune to replace. They give you the camera and printer for next to nothing then they DING you on the ink and paper...and then, the ink is fragile as snowflake in April.
Summary: Great concept, poor design makes this product not only a waste of money but a frustrating waste of time. Take it back to the drawing board, KODAK! 35mm film would ...

However, the Kodak EasyShare CD contains absolutely no Windows software as explicitly stated on the CD. In fact, it is a Mac HFS formatted cd with Mac only software (which is fine in itself)
hmmm, how is it possible to install Windows software from a CD that contains no Windows software.
The kodak web site does not allow full download of
of their free software, only an installer application.
That is unacceptable and ridiculous -
One paper jam means return to Kodak for repair! UGH! NO user serviceable methods! UGH UGH!
by scheerchrs on December 12, 2007
Pros: Decent quality photos at a reasonable speed/price
Cons: Terrible performance technically; jams, misfeeds etc. Has to be completely taken apart to remove even a small paper jam or even if the power cuts out in the middle of a print.

Photo Quality: 7/10 with some slight color shifts
Photo price: 8/10 using bulk purchased paper/thermal ink cartridge
Overall: Stay AWAY! One paper jam (not all that uncommon for quality photo printing) is NOT removable/repairable by the end user AT ALL (the printer "locks up" and removal is impossible without dis-assembling this terribly engineered/designed unit) and literally means the printer will need to be sent to Kodak for repair. Probably why there are so many "refurbished" "like new" ones for sale out there now. Even at $20 this is NOT a good deal. -
Good but probably a better option out there...
by spybus on September 4, 2007
Pros: Good image quality, USB pc connection, charges camera.

Summary: I've got two of these, one at home and one at work. They came with the Z740's I bought so it was really just a bonus. The problem is that I'm the only one that can get the paper feed to work. If you rely on the dock to pick up the paper, you'll never get a print. You have to get one sheet of paper, dust it off, and wait for the dock to get to the paper load protion of print cycle. If you miss, and you've printed from Windows, you have to go through the painful process of deleting a print job. If you shove it in crooked, you're in a big mess. It uses paper with perferated leading and trailing edges. If the paper stops or gets jammed, one of these edges is going to get stuck in the printer. I've had to take one completely apart to remove one of those tabs. I'm really not a big fan of the EasyShare software either. It looks like a file broweser but don't be confused, it's not.

Excellent color rendition; Cartridge is the problem.
by ampereii on March 18, 2007
Pros: Easy to Use providing the cartridge is not defective.
Cons: Cartridge, if defective, makes printer signal "paper jam".

Summary: I am pleased with the prints but 3 times have had defective cartridges that made me believe there was a paper jam. When this happens, the printer "locks" the cartridge so you cannot remove it. After more than 2 hrs. struggling to remove the cartridge - like unplugging and replugging power to unit - the cartridge suddenly comes unlocked. Now I have about 100 sheets of paper and no "extra" cartridge to make prints. Kodak needs to have better quality control on the cartridges as well as selling them as a separate item from the paper.
