Ok, now I do not actually own this product yet, but I have done a lot of research and play this exact system at my friend's house all of the time. The xbox 360 arcade is a great console for anyone not planning to use xbox live, since there is no hard drive. Also, without the hard drive, you will not be able to play old original xbox games. But you can purchase a hard drive whenever you want and simply attach it to the top of the xbox 360 console. That being said, this console is the exact same thing as all other xbox 360 consoles with the exception of the missing hard drive. Once again, if you plan to use this console strictly for xbox live, the arcade version is not the right thing for you for you will find yourself going bankrupt buying all of those memory cards. I bought this game for my grandson for x-mas had to send it back for repairs in Feb. The new console they sent me worked for 2 weeks then scratched the games and they are now worthless. The manufactor of the games or the console say they are not responsiple for damage to games. Manufactor of console refuses to refund my money as that is not their policy but will repair the console and send back. I would not recommend this console for anyone as you will not have your console for weeks at a time and then will put out money for games that the console destroys Read more

This is an impressive machine. The graphics engine is really quite good and all the games I've tried looks excellent. HIGHLY recommend getting the HDMI cable and if you don't have an HDTV... well, you're missing out. This thing is a beast for gaming. Xbox live is really where you get your money's worth compared to the PS3 (also awesome).

I also use it to play music through an external hard-drive (usb) and that works well. My biggest complaint is the user interface for the non-games. Playing movies, and music is easy but setting up playlists and such is not.

So, to recap: great for games, decent for multimedia. Read more

this was a perfect fit for me since my original PRO unit(2005), was damaged in an equipment move, (disk drive), and I already had all the extras missing in the Arcade package.
I wasn't all that happy to pay a hefty repair bill and send in my 360 off for months with the possibility of getting an old replacement unit with possible problems of it's own, (3 rings), so the lowered price of this package with the newer hardware platform/ firmware and wireless controller to added to the accessories I already have was the perfect solution in my situation?
While this package is quite limited, we have to remember that there will be a great number of young games and set income families that just can't spend the $400+ price of admission that a more complete package carries?in many of these cases, they can AFFORD to buy the Arcade package now and add accessories as the budget allows, even if it is a more expensive route to travel, it may be MUCH more affordable! I picked up an arcade a bit after they were released, my reasoning for picking up a arcade was that i can make a harddrive for it that would cost way less, plus if i ever decide to mod my xbox i wont be loseing a huge investment. So if that sounds like the mentality you have i'd highly reccemend the arcade SKU. Read more

For just $30 more than the Wii you have a real next-gen system. The Wii is a great deal but isn't HD ready. DVD's can be played out of the box & the Wii only rumors DVD/CD playback late 2007. The only edge the Wii has over any system is the remote. Or Wii-mote for you Wii fans. This is what the core system should have been 2yrs ago. Read more
