Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite (120GB) price range: $289.95
- Reviewed by: John Falcone
- Reviewed on: 04/27/2007
- Released on: 04/29/2007
The good: Excellent selection of games, including many 360-only exclusives; all games are in native high-definition; user-friendly Dashboard interface; supports wireless controllers and accessories; Xbox Live service offers online multiplayer (with matchmaking and voice chat) and content downloads for most games; backward compatible with many--but not all--original Xbox titles; doubles as a superior digital media hub and Windows Media extender; online Marketplace allows easy purchases of minigames, add-on gaming content, high-def movies, and TV shows.
The bad: The Elite fails to correct most of the annoyances of the original 360 version: the noisy DVD drive and cooling fan; a gigantic, oversize power supply; no built-in wireless networking; only three USB ports; a substandard DVD player; online gaming requires a paid subscription to Xbox Live; proprietary wireless format limits third-party accessories.
The bottom line: While it's neither a must-have upgrade for existing 360 owners nor as feature-packed as the PS3, the Xbox 360 Elite's combination of top-notch gaming and digital media features make it the current game console of choice.

If you have one pass, if not donate an organ or 3
by scottyrob on May 1, 2007
Pros: 120 gig HDD, quieter, HDMI, it's a 360 and no PS3
Cons: Not as feature loaded as some might think, high price

Summary: Here's the deal people. If you still don't have a 360, like me, and want to get one, this is the one to get. No ifs, ands, or buts. Yes it is the top of the line but people think it's like going from a Kia to a Lexus or BMW. It's more like going from a BMW 750I to a 750 LI. You get the same great machine but with just a little more. If you have a 360 pass unless you have to have it.

Time to set things right!!!!!

Summary: Wow I have read so many reviews and all they are are people being dumb about which system is better. I currently own a PS3 and it's cool and all, but the only reason I bought it is because of the games to come in the future. All my friends own 360's and thats fine I don't have any problem with 360, but if you are going to argue about which system is better please do some research before you post idiotic comments like you are doing. For one PS3 does have a ethernet port in the back, so if you did want to use a chord for connecting to the internet. Second of all most PS3 games support full 1080p I currently own 4 and 3 of them go to full 1080p. Unfortunately I own a t.v. which only goes to 720p which I have no problem with. Last who cares if XBOX has a 120 GB HD. PS3's HD is a standard 2.5 laptop drive meaning you can go to the store and buy a 160 GB laptop drive for as much as the 120 gb HD for the 360 which is $99.99, and put it right in the bottom of the PS3 with ease. Don't get me wrong MS is a good company, but they really didn't think hard enough about the ELITE. The one thing they needed to get rid of was the power brick which is ridiculously large and they needed to add WiFi.If MS would have done these two things the Elite would be worth every penny to upgrade.

Summary: I feel microsoft should have waited a while before releasing a new XBOX with improved features. This was clearly in response to the PS3's release so i guess they had a reason. The console has no significant improvements over the premium Xbox so I am not planning and wouldnt advise anyone to trade in their old Xbox for this new one. Like Msoft said its for people who havnt purchased one yet. All in all its a solid console but the 120Gb additional space is not necessary for gaming. However if you have been taking advantage of the Xbox live movie downloads (I havnt) then it might appeal to you. Judging strictly from a hardware perspective being priced at only a $120 between the PS3 it still dosent hold a candle to Sony's product. From the card readers and bluetooth technology to the wi fi and the blu ray drive. 60 extra GB hardly covers this. I don't feel MSoft made any significant improvements basically re-releasing 2yr old hardware with only hdmi as a significant improvemnt. I mean if you are going to release an "elite" console you might as well go all out bring on the blu ray and the wi fi and you could have at least improved on the hardware specs e.g. fan noise and chip that reduces the heat generated by the console. common Msoft wat are you doing.

Summary: Ok, people say that why on earth MS didn't put no WiFi or HD DVD in the elite? its because if they had done that...the price would have reached as high as the PS3(60) or even higher. Its $469.99, if you add a wifi ($40-$50) and a better disc reader (blu-ray or HD-DVD) ($100-$150). now do the math and think about why there is no wifi or HD DVD reader in the new xbox elite. I would suggest PS3 or xbox 360 pro insted of the new xbox 360 elite. The ps3 has blu-ray reader, wifi, free online play (even the some lagg), big HDD(60), black finish, card reader, HDMI output (not included), AV cable, and much more even with the price of $600!
Well people, this is only my opinion nothing else. So THINK ABOUT THIS AND NOT WRITE A STUPID COMMENT ABOUT PS3 because of its PRICE!0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

HD-DVD would make it a 10
by chugawoo on April 19, 2007
Pros: Same as 360 premium, HDMI, 120GB HDD, Hottest game titles
Cons: Black is sooooo SONY!!, no HD-DVD.
Summary: MS should have discontinued the HD-DVD add-on as well. If they included an HD-DVD drive in this, almost all current 360 owners would have jumped in head first. 120GB HDD ...
Summary: MS should have discontinued the HD-DVD add-on as well. If they included an HD-DVD drive in this, almost all current 360 owners would have jumped in head first. 120GB HDD is like killing an ant with an atomic bomb. It's just overkill. I'm not bashing MS in anyway. In truth ,90% of my components are Sony, except my console. I just love the Xbox live experience. Nevertheless, if anyone is considering the 360, wait for the elite. At $479 its a steal, with a free ($100) HDMI cable to boot.Just don't get caught in the upconversion hype. Your current stock of DVDS will not look like Dicovery HD no matter what you do. LOL.
