Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite (120GB) price range: $200.00
- Reviewed by: John Falcone
- Reviewed on: 04/27/2007
- Released on: 04/29/2007
The good: Excellent selection of games, including many 360-only exclusives; all games are in native high-definition; user-friendly Dashboard interface; supports wireless controllers and accessories; Xbox Live service offers online multiplayer (with matchmaking and voice chat) and content downloads for most games; backward compatible with many--but not all--original Xbox titles; doubles as a superior digital media hub and Windows Media extender; online Marketplace allows easy purchases of minigames, add-on gaming content, high-def movies, and TV shows.
The bad: The Elite fails to correct most of the annoyances of the original 360 version: the noisy DVD drive and cooling fan; a gigantic, oversize power supply; no built-in wireless networking; only three USB ports; a substandard DVD player; online gaming requires a paid subscription to Xbox Live; proprietary wireless format limits third-party accessories.
The bottom line: While it's neither a must-have upgrade for existing 360 owners nor as feature-packed as the PS3, the Xbox 360 Elite's combination of top-notch gaming and digital media features make it the current game console of choice.

THE 360 IS SUPERIOR OVER THE PS3
by question4seller on April 6, 2007
Pros: HDMI, BEST GAME SELECTION PERIOD, XBOX LIVE, BEST GRAPHICS, SMOOTHEST GAME PLAY, BEST GRAPHICS CARD, CONTROLLER
Cons: NO HD-DVD !!! HUGE MISTAKE NOT TO ADD THIS AT NO EXTRA COST!!!
Summary: FIRST OFF I'VE HAD BOTH THE PS3 AND THE XBOX360, AND THERE IS NO WAY IN THE WORLD THE PS3 IS BETTER... MY PS3 WAS JUST SITTING THERE COLLECTING ...
Summary: FIRST OFF I'VE HAD BOTH THE PS3 AND THE XBOX360, AND THERE IS NO WAY IN THE WORLD THE PS3 IS BETTER... MY PS3 WAS JUST SITTING THERE COLLECTING DUST... THE CONTROLLER ON THE PS3 IS TERRIBLE... AND TO REALLY ENJOY A GAME YOU NEED THE VIBRATION WHICH ONLY THE XBOX HAS...
THE XBOX360 HAS A BETTER GRAPHICS CARD THIS IS WHY THE GAMES AVAILABLE ON BOTH SYSTEMS LOOK BETTER AND ARE SMOOTHER ON THE XBOX360 RATHER THAN THE PS3... THE PROCESORS ARE ABOUT EVENLY MATCHED, EXCEPT SONY TOOK A CHANCE WITH THE CELL PROCESOR BECAUSE IT ISNT MADE FOR GAMING... DONT JUST TAKE MY WORD FOR IT READ THE REVIEWS BY THE PROS.. GOOGLE IT...
TAKE IT FROM ME, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A PS3( I SOLD MINE ON EBAY AFTER 1 MONTH), YOU WILL PLAY IT FOR ONE WEEK THEN IT WILL JUST COLLECT DUST.
XBOX ONLINE IS EXCEPTIONAL AND SET NEW STANDARDS FOR THE NEXT GENERATION GAMING...
AS FAR AS THE NEW ELITE SYSTEM, I THINK THAT FOR THE SAME PRICE THEY SHOULD'VE INCLUDED THE HD-DVD PLAYER. iF MICROSOFT CAN PULL THAT OFF EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD BE A SMALL LOSS AS FAR AS THEIR COST FOR EACH UNIT, THEY WILL TAKE THE MAJORITY OF THE VIDEO GAME MARKET... AND IN RETURN THEY WOULD MAKE THEIR MONEY BACK BY THE VIDEO GAME SALES... MAYBE MS DOESNT CARE SINCE THE 360 IS ALREAY OUTSELLING THE PS3 3 TO 1 AS OF THE PS3 LAUNCH DATE AND THERE ARE ALSO 10 TIMES AS MANY 360 OWNERS AS THERE ARE PS3 OWNERS.. (THAT NUMBER IS ONLY GOING TO GO UP SINCE THE 360 IS OUTSELLING THE PS3 NOW 3 TO 1)
I DONT KNOW WHY THESE SONY FAN BOYS KEEP SAYING THAT THE PS3 IS BETTER UNDER THE HOOD, BUT THE CELL PROCESOR HAS NOT PROVEN ANYTHING AS OF NOW... AS MENTIONED EARLIER THE GRAPHICS LOOK BETTER ON THE 360 AND THE GAME PLAY IS ALSO SMOOTHER ON THE 360...
IF IN THE FUTURE THE PS3 CAN OUTDO THE 360 AND IF THEY GET A BETTER GAME SELECTION ( BETTER THAN THE 360) THEN I WILL GO AND BUY ONE ONCE AGAIN. BUT INTIL THEN IT IS NOT A GOOD INVESTMENT TO PAY ALMOST $700 W. TAX FOR A SYSTEM W. NO GAMES AND INFERIOR GRAPHICS, GAMEPLAY, AND TERRIBLE CONTROLLER, AND YOU DONT EVEN KNOW IF BLUE RAY WILL BECOME OBSOLITE IN A VERY SHORT TIME...
BOTTOM LINE, BOTH SYSTEMS LOOK SIMILAR BUT THE 360 HAS MORE TO OFFER... IF IN THE FUTURE THE PS3 CAN OUT DO THE 360 THEN I'LL BUY ONE THEN... BUT FOR NOW I'LL STICK WITH A SYSTEM I CAN ACTUALLY USE FOR MORE THAN A WEEK.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I think the new 360 is rubbish and the old 360. why did they bring the elite system 16 months later.the price is ok but id never buy it. teh ps3 is still beter than the elite system. The xbox does not evan have wifi or bluetooth. most of the things in the elite system were coppied of the ps3 like the HDMI cable.the normal xbox 360 always over heats and its easy to get lazer burns on the hd disk.

Summary: i think this is pointless. Place the elite next to the 360 and theres no difference but the black color and the hard drive. I can see if you want to download alot of stuff from xbox live (which their responding to complaints about to small of hard drives for this reason) If they wanted to really do something good they should have made the disk drive a hd drive and added a willerless adapter. I think its outrages that a game system out stats my computer. if you want an elite with out the bigger price then hook up a media connect to your computer and share hard drives.

My advice id to stick with your old 360, and if you realy need to buy the hard drive. If you don't have 360, I say wait because Microsofts first xbox 360 will probably drop price by 100 dollars. Thats rumored but I say the price will change by Christmas.

Waste of Money
by Battle Axe on May 14, 2007
Pros: Currently has alot of Game Titles
Cons: so many cons, you'd think its a prison lol
Summary: Where to begin..........Well, lets start with the huge exterior power supply. It is basically a brick that could be used to help build a house.
Oh, and what about ...Summary: Where to begin..........Well, lets start with the huge exterior power supply. It is basically a brick that could be used to help build a house.
Oh, and what about the fact that to watch HD DVDs, you need to spend $200.00 on an HD DVD player, which plugs into a USB port. The fact that you have to use one of the XBOX's USB ports for the HD DVD player isn't good, considering you only get 3 USB ports with the XBOX 360. (as opposed to the 4 USB ports that the PS3 comes with.)
So between the power supply and the HD DVD player, you have a real mess of wires and objects all over the place.(PS3 comes with everything inside the unit)
The XBOX 360 is known for over heating and is also known for having problems after system updates which results in the unit crashing.
120 gig hard drive? Big Deal. There was no signifigant improvement made to this system.
Things the XBOX 360 doesn't have that the PS3 HAS:
- Blue Tooth Technology( wireless technology that you don't need an adaptor to use. All 4 USB ports still available after 7 items are paired up. (pair up to 7 items, eg:keyboard, mouse, DVD remotr, Controlers, Headset)
- XBOX 360 Elite still uses an old style IR receiver for its wireless controlers.
- BluRay Disc Player , Holds way more information than the HD format disc . This is also built into the PS3.
- 4 USB ports (XBOX 360 has 3 USB ports)
- CF/SD/mini SD/PRO memory card plug-ins( XBOX 360 has none of these)
- Touch sensitive power and eject buttons
- replacable hard drive (PS3 gets the advantage with this due to the fact that you can use any laptop Hard Drive. For XBOX 360, you have to use an XBOX 360 hard drive)
- Free online game play( why should you have to pay to be online when you've already spent money on Internet, Game Console and Games. XBOX is a rip off.)
- Internet Web Browser(just another thing the PS3 has to offer that XBOX 360 does not)
- no ring of death or fire or whatever you guys like to say and no over heating.
- PS3 has more processing power which will lead to better games(eg.PS3 has "Folding @ Home". The reason the xbox 360 doesn't offer this is because it would overheat the CPU, too much information for the XBOX 360)
- PS3 is a far better looking unit. Its almost like they made the XBOX 360 Elite black and silver , so it would look more like a PS3.
- PS3 is fully backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 games(Microsoft decided to abandon the old XBOX leaving its customers high and dry.)
- Sonys long tern vision for the PS2, shows that Sony is commited to its customers, as they are still making lots of games for the PS2. Unfortunatly you can't say the same for Microsoft. Whos to say that Microsoft won't dissapoint its customers like that again.
- Sony will most likely buy out another major game developer to develop more exclusive games for the PS3. The PS3 has only been out for 6 months , so of course 360 is gonna have more games. Sony will catch up fast and the quality of the games will far surpass the XBOX 360, once game developers fully use the PS3 to its potential.
Thank you to all the XBOX 360 fans who read this. I hope you have learned your lesson. I can't babysit you, i can only lead you down the right path.1 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Problems not fixed!
by Kokoro-Kun on April 27, 2007
Pros: Red ring of fire (not fixed), overheating problem (not fixed), no wifi built-in (not fixed), noisy disc drive that scratches your disc (not fixed)
Cons: it's now in BLACK!!
Summary: when you plan to charge MORE for a console, you better fix some of the big problem that plagued the old xbox... but unfortunately, none of them are fixed.
the ...Summary: when you plan to charge MORE for a console, you better fix some of the big problem that plagued the old xbox... but unfortunately, none of them are fixed.
the much talked about 65nm processor is not included, the BenQ disc that is quieter and won't kill your disc is not included. and most importantly, the same manuafacturing problem that killed A LOT of xbox is still there.
but hey, look at the bright side, it's black now, so I guess it justify the price increase.
Look Microsoft, just because Apple charges more for black model, it doesn't mean you have to follow too, but unlike Apple, Apple don't charge MORE for a newer, better model after 1 and half years since release (look at my 5.5G Ipod).0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
