Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite (120GB) price range: $200.00
- Reviewed by: John Falcone
- Reviewed on: 04/27/2007
- Released on: 04/29/2007
The good: Excellent selection of games, including many 360-only exclusives; all games are in native high-definition; user-friendly Dashboard interface; supports wireless controllers and accessories; Xbox Live service offers online multiplayer (with matchmaking and voice chat) and content downloads for most games; backward compatible with many--but not all--original Xbox titles; doubles as a superior digital media hub and Windows Media extender; online Marketplace allows easy purchases of minigames, add-on gaming content, high-def movies, and TV shows.
The bad: The Elite fails to correct most of the annoyances of the original 360 version: the noisy DVD drive and cooling fan; a gigantic, oversize power supply; no built-in wireless networking; only three USB ports; a substandard DVD player; online gaming requires a paid subscription to Xbox Live; proprietary wireless format limits third-party accessories.
The bottom line: While it's neither a must-have upgrade for existing 360 owners nor as feature-packed as the PS3, the Xbox 360 Elite's combination of top-notch gaming and digital media features make it the current game console of choice.

Summary: I'm at a loss. Why would you spend more for this "elite" version of the 360? Many people are going to get caught opening their wallet and falling into Microsoft's scheme. If you're the one who never bought a 360 until now, then you want this version of the system. If you already have the 360, there is absolutely no point in buying this version. It kinda makes me think they know the PS3 will eventually become the better system down the road, so Microsoft decided to go "elite". This still has the problems of the original 360, it's loud, get's very hot, clumsy power supply and no built in HD-DVD. Unless your a crazy Microsoft supporter. You don't need this system if you already have an original 360.

Summary: Although this is a pretty good deal it still didnt make most of the corrections. They also lied at us telling us that it was fake. All we need now is in 3 months for a new 65 chip xbox 360 to come out. Why dont they just keep making new xbox's 360 each 6 months.

Summary: Microsoft have created a great console, the pro was great, it had is issues(noise and red lights) but they haven't appear in newer systems( the ones in store now) they keep adding features and options to the gamer and consumer to do more than games with the 360, the price is nice too, you get hdmi, and 120 gb HD for only 80 dollars more, and the black controllers are beautiful..
I have a launch 360 pro, and i'm happy with it, it makes its noise, but with the volume of my surround i hardly notice it. I do need a bigger hard drive i have been getting many things from the marketplace (which is great, but does need a better and easier interface)
Well, i'm sure new buyers are going to be extremely happy with it. and those that have one like in my case, i already need another one but i'll wait until fall.
Reason why i need another one? i don't like to be moving it around, and since i got a hdtv for my room, i should have my 360 there too, and with the gamertag carrying your records and purchases i can connect anywhere with no problems.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I think this system is awesome, luckily I was able to trade-in my original 360 for some credit towards this one. It has all the connections you need for pure HD gaming and Digital surround sound. The 360 games blow the competition away. Sorry, Wii are not amused by cutesy graphics or cheap Call of Duty/Gears of War hybrid knock-offs. I know own both an Elite and a Gen.II 360.

Summary: no hd dvd player and built in wifi! but other then that IPTV could be huge depending on price structure to be able to use the 360 as a tivo device for tv also 1080p and to bump the res from 1080i to 1080p on all games should clean them up a bit also lets see the PS3 update that lets you pick the resolution and not the game! ya I know PS3 will run what ever res you set it at in the dash but games control the res in games also who like exclusive gamertags and achievements that would be ME! also built in voice communication support for game and people who have a headset 3-5 headset outta 32 gamers in resistence is lame PS3 fan boy you paid a mint for your system get a flippin headset or throw it in the trash youll never match live with out the trash talk on deathmatch I powned your MOM you stink like a babies diapper you get the picture!!!! Of course I would never talk about your Mom or would I???? Maybe if talked about mine first. also the next xbox to watch for is the one with a shrunk processor that runs cooler and use less power and hd dvd built in. PS the PS3 uses 385 watts the 360 uses 165 watts. I can run 2 360 for less then 1 PS3 something too consider with energy cost going thru the roof!

Summary: first of all all the people that think ps3 is better... you might be right but one thing you can't say that there are better ps3 games than the 360. ps3 has nutin like 360 has halo nintendo has mario and zelda whats does ps3 have. Also the Elite has the best memory hardrive. And the reason it came late was to beat the new things for ps3 and wii.

same unreliable product it ever was
by jjoh217 on March 23, 2010
Pros: When the xBox 360 works, I actually prefer it to my PS3 simply due to the game selection and layout of xBox Live.
Cons: I own 2 360 consoles, and right now they are both sent in for repair...for the 3rd time on each console. I am not a super user by any stretch of the imagination. the console simply has an extremely high failure rate.
Summary: The features are great, the dependability sucks. I should not have to make special adjustments and try to trick the console into not failing. I have over $2000 in xBox ...
Summary: The features are great, the dependability sucks. I should not have to make special adjustments and try to trick the console into not failing. I have over $2000 in xBox 360 consoles, accessories, and games and both of my consoles are sitting in xBox service center for the third time each. every person I know that owns an xBox 360 has had a failure. My Advice, if you are looking to buy, by all means buy a PS3. If you do purchase a 360, you will love it for a while, but be rest assured....it will FAIL and FAIL again, and you will learn to hate it.
At this point I am disgusted with xBox and consider it to be the Jaguar of gaming consoles...its great when it works, but spends as much time in the shop as it does in my living room. It is riddled with over heating, red lights, and disc tray issues. I am shocked there is not better quality control, or that there has not been a recall on the product. I have spent hours on the phone with technical support and carrying my consoles to be shipped off for repairs only to receive the same refurbished product back that last a few months before crapping out again. Until Microsoft truly fixes the issues and puts a reliable product on the shelf I am not spending another dime with them and suggest that no one purchase the 360 at this time. My PS2 has run for 8 years with no issue at all. My Wii has never had an issue, and during the last trip of my consoles to xBox "repair-land" I went and bought the PS3. Love it. xBox will not hold its grip forever. Too many issues, failures, and once loyal consumers that have become angry and disenchanted. They have lost me forever.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
