The good: All games in high-definition; easy-to-use Dashboard interface; excellent online gaming and communications via Xbox Live; plays hundreds of (but not all) original Xbox titles; doubles as a superior digital media hub and Windows Media Center extender; online Marketplace allows for easy purchases of downloadable full-scale games, mini-games, movies, and TV shows; latest version offers HDMI output with 1080p support.
The bad: Early versions of the console prone to "red ring of death" system crash; noisy exhaust fan and DVD drive; gigantic oversize power supply; no built-in wireless networking or flash media reader; DVD playback has substandard video quality; support for next-gen HD DVD movies requires a bulky external accessory; 20GB hard drive fills up very quickly; online gaming requires a paid subscription to Xbox Live.
The bottom line: With its extensive digital media features, a superior online service, and an excellent game library, the Xbox 360 remains the game console to beat.

Sounds Great BUT!!!!
by Cory D on May 13, 2005
Pros: This sounds like its going to be a great system with even more exclusive titles then its predecessor. Love the wireless capability
Cons: The biggest mistake that they can make with this system is not supporting a high defination disk format. If they are going to call it the HD era then they need to support HD movie playback.
Summary: Even if the system doesn't support a HD disk format, I believe that it will truely be a revolutionary entertainment machine.

Summary: I bought a new xbox 360 which is now not working and showing the rings of death. Can you imagine i bought it with the sweat of my brow and everything has now doomed at the expense of the booming microsoft. If microsoft is making third rate gaming consoles they don't have to be in the market, in a junk yard i feel.

Awesome multimedia and gaming console

Pros: 1080p, lots of games, high-def gaming, multimedia features, online market place.

Summary: I've always been a PC gamer myself. I've used many consoles, but none ever conviced me to actually buy one. After a few days with a friends Xbox 360 - I was sold.
Other than missing HDMI, there is really nothing wrong with this console - hence the 10 rating. And component will still look awesome, especially if your TV accepts 1080p over component such as my Samsung 61" DLP does. HDMI is very awesome, but it just wasn't very popular when the Xbox was being designed and released. And even today, it's just starting to become common.
If the HD gaming, awesome controls, and great interface don't fully sell you on the unit - the online market place and Live services certainly will. Microsoft has made it extremely easy to download demo's, movie trailiers, movies, and much more! Some of it is free, while other features such as Movies naturally cost $$$.
The media extender features are very nice if you have a media center PC. While you are only able to play WMA/WMV content, there are 3rd party apps that can allow you to play virtual any picture/video/music format on your xbox, that you can play on your PC.
If you're looking for a cool gaming console with some awesome multimedia features, check out the 360!2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Many people have stated that their 360 broke and it was Microsofts fault but i have one that was made 12/03/05 and it works great and never has frozen nor have i received red lights. As long as you treat it well it will be good to you. Just dont put it or the power "brick" in small closed areas because that could cause it to overheat which will deminish its lifespan. The games and gameplay is great and also you can set default controls for you profile for racing, shooting, and RPG games so when you play under that profile every game that is in the same category has the same controls. Also the 360 is perfect for xbox live. You can download demos for ever games out so you do not need to rent a game to see if its good. Also you can download gamerpictures and themes for your backround. Many trailers for games and movies are availible too. Also using media connect you can stream music from you computer to you 360 and you can listen too and watch all video and music on you computer. Also there is chat which you can chat with friends or just recent players and you can switch games and never be disconected. And the xbox guide is the same in every game so the messegeing and messege center is the same for every games and you dont need to switch games to listen to messeges sent in a certain game. Also a neet thing is that you can join a recent players game or send them messeges. Overall the 360 is perfect. If you find one buy IT!

I'm not impressed. Save your money and wait for the PS3, or just mod an original Xbox

Pros: Same features as a modded xbox, but with a sreamlined interface.
Cons: A modded Xbox is over $250 cheaper, does more. Launch titles are not impressive.

Summary: First off I am not a Sony Fanboy, or a fanboy of any system. I have played and owned them all, from my first computer, a TRS-80 with a cassete data drive, all the way up to my current Xbox. I was one of the lucky ones to score a Xbox 360 from Pepsi/Mountain Dew, and it still is sealed in the box. A friend of mine bought an Xbox of Ebay for $950(!), and after playing with it for about 4 hours today I think anyone who buys one right now is getting ripped off.
Graphics. Microsoft and ATI claim that the chip inside is a current generation above the x850XT, and after playing a few games the generation gap doesn't seem that large. I own a PC with an ATI Radeon x800XL, and the graphics in the XBOX don't seem too much better. Just think original Xbox with sharper graphics. Actually if you spent a few more $$ you could get a pretty decent gaming machine. Radeon x800xl $275, ASUS mobo $150, Athlon64 3000 $120, 20GB HD $30, basic case, KB $30, 1gb ram $100 Total = around $700, plus upgradeable graphics/hd. Makes more sense then spending $700+ right now for those fantastic money saving "bundles". I played Peter Jacksons King Kong at Target, I saw slowdown and a few graphical glitches.
Media Center features. Looks like Bill was watching the Xbox modders, because everything the 360 can do now those of us with modded xboxes have been doing for many months. On the 360 you can use it as a Media Center Extender, you can listen to music ripped ionto the HD, watch movies off your PC, ect. Well for about $25 you can find people that will soft mod your xbox and have all these features for a lot less. Enter Xbox Media Center, a free program for modded xboxes that can do everything the 360 can do and more. The only advantage of doing it on the 360 is that it is legal...ahem or it has Bill's seal of approval. Again contrast in price: Xbox 360 = 399 (if you can get one now at that price) vs Used Xbox for $50-75, soft mod it yourself for free or pay someone to do it ($25-$50). Also don't forget you can rip audio AND movies on to the HD, get drives as big as 400gb, run emulators for NES/SNES/SMS/N64, and there is a lot more I am sure I am missing.
Connectivity. I do like the built in wireless, you just plug it in and it works. Shame on Microsoft for not having AT LEAST DVI. HDMI output would of been nice, but composite doesn't cut it. They also should of chosen one of the 2 competing HiDef DVD formats, HD-DVD or Blueray.
In a nutshell, if you have the money to burn, go for it, but you are not really getting a total package. i think you are getting a lot of power for $400, but I don't really see a compelling reason to switch from a regular Xbox, or even a modded xbox, which can do so much more for less. launch titles are so-so, just rehashes of original Xbox games with more reflections and sharper graphics. Myself, I will wait till a few days for Christmas, and mabye I can get a house in exchange for my 360.6 out of 13 users found this user opinion helpful.

Also, Sony, ONCE AGAIN, is showing pre-rendered movies that look better than a multi-million dollar PIXAR production and claiming that they are games. This is total deja-vu for Sony's PS2 launch which disappointed everyone.

Summary: I love Xbox Live and the new ideas they are implementing on the Xbox360 Xbox Live, but the system may be too outpowered once PS3 hits. I mean Allard is already saying graphics won't be everything (and they won't) but the PS3 CPU would be able to do more non-graphic things compared to the Xbox360 like physics, AI, sound, hd video playback, etc.

The original XBox was mostly successful because of awesome software developers made for it, like Halo, but also like Doom 3 and HL2, ported from the PC. However, the XBox 360 lags surprisingly far behind the PS3 in terms of horsepower. Doesn't Microsoft realize that if it doesn't have a system that will keep up, PC games will be ported to the PS3 instead? They seem to be going for a completely different business tactic, and I'm almost sure it's going to kill them. So, sorry Microsoft, but so long.2 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.
