- The Nintendo 3DS successfully offers a glasses-free 3D experience that needs to be seen to be believed. A weaker-than-usual launch lineup and some previously inactivated online features dampened its launch, but a recent price drop and a promising holiday lineup shine a light at the end of tunnel.

Nintendo 3DS (Aqua Blue) price range: $143.99 - $199.95

The good: The Nintendo 3DS provides an impressive 3D gaming experience without the need for special glasses. There's a 3D effect slider, it shoots and displays 3D photographs with its dual back-facing cameras, and it has a single front-facing camera. The 3DS comes preinstalled with a bevy of software and StreetPass and SpotPass services, and it comes with a drop-and-charge dock. Internet connectivity includes the eShop, Virtual Console, video marketplace, Internet browsing functionality, DSiWare transferring, and Netflix support.
The bad: The launch lineup is and remains lackluster, and the disappointing low-resolution lenses provide grainy photos. The 3D effect can cause headaches for some, and it can "snap out" because of sensitive viewing angles and games that encourage movement. The 3DS has a very short battery life, and most Internet functionality wasn't activated at launch.
The bottom line: The Nintendo 3DS successfully offers a glasses-free 3D experience that needs to be seen to be believed. A weaker-than-usual launch lineup and some previously inactivated online features dampened its launch, but a recent price drop and a promising holiday lineup shine a light at the end of tunnel.

Everything good except L and R button

Summary: I thought that this was great and I enjoyed it incredibly for about a year but then the R and L buttons started having problems and I couldn't drift in my favorite game mario kart 3d anymore! so I don't use it as much anymore because this isn't the only time the R and L button broke they also broke on my dsi and my ds lite. If you buy this product be prepared for hours and hours of enjoyment but just a warning the R/L button may break after a while so be prepared. But overall great system and great games as well as 3d I have always been a fan of nintendo but I am sick of my R and L buttons breaking! but if they didn't break this system would be amazing.

Nintendo handheld succeeds yet again!
by mryourgy on January 1, 2012
Pros: Great fun, 3D is cool, applications are a nice touch, 3D camera and video, expansive game library (and growing)
Cons: I personally would of designed it different, low battery life, small stylus, camera quality

Summary: Its cool and innovative. So much applications you can get (including NetFlix and Internet Browser). I would of designed the handheld a bit different because i don't really like the sandwich like design. Great 3D and visuals is a definite improvement. Overall, Nintendo was looking to wow innovative gamers and they did its job.

I really love my 3DS!
by Michaelcow on December 18, 2011
Pros: Great hardware, the 3D really works, all of the really good games are starting to come out, fun internet-related applications.
Cons: The stylus is in an awkward position.
Summary: Overall, I really love my 3DS and i think everyone should get one! If i had to choose between this and the Vita, i would definitely go with this.

A fantastic handheld with good potential
by Techwh1zz on April 11, 2011
Pros: A good 3D effect which definately adds a new form of depth to playing games on the go!
Some nice features like the use of AR games even if they don't appeal to everyone.
Like the new control stick which makes games like super street fighter IV handle weCons: Poor battery life (depending on settings)
low res camera (although sometimes the 3D can compliment photos)
The software which is promised was not available from day 1, poor line-up for launchSummary: After having the 3DS for two weeks and getting to grips with it I feel that the nintendo handheld really has the potential to do well and progress with some ...
Summary: After having the 3DS for two weeks and getting to grips with it I feel that the nintendo handheld really has the potential to do well and progress with some fantastic games on the horizon. The 3D is not used as a gimmick but as a real layer of depth and this is definately a good thing for the handheld. This is definately a handheld worth getting, but with the software line up being so poor from the day 1 release it's worth waiting until a new range of titles come out. Super Street fighter IV 3D is a software title highly recommended if you plan to buy soon. But in conclusion the main concerns for this handheld are it's battery life and the fact not all the critical software is available like the E-shop or games like resident evil revalations which blew the crowd away with it's technical brilliance. The main thing is to be weary of the fact that you must decide if you want to wait for new titles or to bag the handheld now. Either way this is overall still a very welcome new addition to the nintendo handhelds :)

Awesome update to the DS line.

Summary: I've had the 3DS for little over 12 hours or so, but I'm already in love! Playing games in 3D is really cool and fun. Of course some games fare better than others due to the precise nature of the viewing area. I have Lego Star Wars, Pilotwings and Super Monkey Ball and all of those look great in 3D.
I really like taking 3D pictures and I totally wish the cameras could have been at least 2 Megapixel. I mean, seriously. However, the daytime and outdoor pictures seem to look pretty good and the camera does offer some neat customization features to help you get the most out of the lenses.
I'm a bit bummed out that there is no internet yet, but I'm sure that when it is enabled it will be really cool. The OK Go video is a great hint at the possibilities of 3D video on the 3DS.
It's a really hot package, and I recommend, but I understand that $250 is a lot to pay for some people. Perhaps as more games come online nad the internet features get more realized, it will seem like a better value. You'll get few complaints from me right now :) -
It's a huge change, there is potential!

Pros: 3D effect works, Wide upper screen, Tad higher res out of screens, more security features, telescoping stylus, nice UI, Pseudo-Surround sound added

Summary: So far, it's a really nice upgrade from the regular DSi. Though, admitted that it has a lot of the features that the previous model has. But with all the support its getting from developers, it has so much more it'll be able to do. The 3D works to a T, but some of my friends who have seen it do get eye strain, some real easily, but as soon as you adjust the display, it's easy on them. Only one has actually got a headache from it within 15 minutes of playing with it. The Pseudo-Surround sound also works for it being "pseudo". The AR games are a blast. It's unfortunate though, that nintendo for some reason didn't include Pictochat into it, not even a local version. Battery isn't too bad, though I've only played street fighter 4 on it (still have all of my regular DS games). The Stylus is in a strang position than what I'm used to, but that'll quickly change. The pictures that I take look alright on the 3DS, of course, as soon as I backup the photos on my computer, they do look a little grainy. I love how the memory of the system can finally integrate with the memory of the SD card, helpful in the voice notes app. So, the system is a refresh for some folks, but it's great if you want to something that may pack a punch later on of the system's life.
