- The Nintendo 3DS successfully offers a glasses-free 3D experience that needs to be seen to be believed. A weaker-than-usual launch lineup and some previously inactivated online features dampened its launch, but a recent price drop and a promising holiday lineup shine a light at the end of tunnel.

Nintendo 3DS (Cosmo Black) price range: $171.99

The good: The Nintendo 3DS provides an impressive 3D gaming experience without the need for special glasses. There's a 3D effect slider, it shoots and displays 3D photographs with its dual back-facing cameras, and it has a single front-facing camera. The 3DS comes preinstalled with a bevy of software and StreetPass and SpotPass services, and it comes with a drop-and-charge dock. Internet connectivity includes the eShop, Virtual Console, video marketplace, Internet browsing functionality, DSiWare transferring, and Netflix support.
The bad: The launch lineup is and remains lackluster, and the disappointing low-resolution lenses provide grainy photos. The 3D effect can cause headaches for some, and it can "snap out" because of sensitive viewing angles and games that encourage movement. The 3DS has a very short battery life, and most Internet functionality wasn't activated at launch.
The bottom line: The Nintendo 3DS successfully offers a glasses-free 3D experience that needs to be seen to be believed. A weaker-than-usual launch lineup and some previously inactivated online features dampened its launch, but a recent price drop and a promising holiday lineup shine a light at the end of tunnel.

Excellent system, innovative and well designed
by kingn8link on March 17, 2011
Pros: Great 3D effect, significant graphics upgrade, comfortable grip, welcomed interface and controls
Cons: Hurt my eyes just a little after a while.. but I turned it off and continued to enjoy the system.
Summary: Disregard the review giving it a 1 1/2 stars out of five. What a joke. How are you going to review a system without having "had any hands on ...
Summary: Disregard the review giving it a 1 1/2 stars out of five. What a joke. How are you going to review a system without having "had any hands on experience" and expect the fact that you've owned other Nintendo systems to suffice. Are you serious?
Anyway, I was surprised by this system. I mean, really surprised. It's one thing to hear about it, but it's another to experience it. I haven't purchased it but I played with it during the demo tours Nintendo is having. All I can say is, a review doesn't really do justice. I've read many reviews, but I wasn't overly excited. I was intrigued, but the whole 3D fanfare didn't translate well into writing.
Before you buy the system, try it out for yourself. Or take the opinion of someone who has tried it in person. Those are the best reviews in my opinion. It's an impressive system and I can't wait to see how developers are going to take advantage of the hardware.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: The main topic of the 3DS is always the 3D. However, 3D is just ONE of the slew of features and upgrades this amazing little machine offers. The slidepad works great, the processing power is impressive, it's online features are fleshed out and the software coming down the pipe has been top notch. 3DS is the real deal, and it is NOT a kiddy machine. 3D or NOT, the 3DS offers a fantastic gaming experience at a super low entry cost. Grab a few, and hook em up!

Summary: What can I say? The 3DS has it all! I have impressed so many non-gaming and gaming friends with it, it's astounding. I'm sure most of you have heard that "the 3D hurts your eyes" or "it gives you headaches" Not true. Every single person who owns one or has seen one that WASNT on demo at a store has said they have no problems with it, and I concur. Another complaint is that the battery life is bad. I've never really had a problem with it, but then again, it sits at home on its included docking station all day. I love it so much, I'm selling my psp. Great job, Nintendo!
