The good: Lighter, slimmer, and sleeker update of the original PSP; AV output for video and game playback on TVs; improved load times for games; retains all of the impressive media and online features of the original PSP; deep lineup of great game titles that offer better graphics than Nintendo DS games.
The bad: Despite improvements, problems and annoyances remain: UMD load times still poky compared to Flash-based DS games; volume levels still less than optimal; limited gameplay options via video output; USB charging option is cumbersome; screen is still too reflective and a magnet for fingerprints; subtle redesign missed the opportunity to add even more features.
The bottom line: While it may not be a must-have upgrade for existing PSP owners, a host of subtle improvements make the latest Sony PSP (aka the PSP 2000) an even better deal for anyone looking for a solid portable gaming and multimedia device.

If you're looking for a good protective case, I've done some research already.
After reading a multitude of reviews about various crystal clear cases for the PSP slim model, and checking out cases available in B&M stores, I finally chose to get the joytron (nuritech) case.
http://nuritech.us/sony-psp-slim-amp-lite-system-skin-case.html
It was a relief to find that they actually did what no one else seemed to - they produced a case that fits PERFECTLY. Every connector port, button, and door is fully accessible, and yet my psp is completely protected from dust, scratches, and fingerprints.
The case also adds very little bulk, so that my psp still fits in a soft travel case for extra protection on the road. Just like other reviews said, it appears very thin when you take it out of the box - but it took 2 seconds to snap it on my PSP and voila! It's awesome.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Worthier than the original PSP
by Eexpert on September 6, 2007
Pros: Better styling, refined PS2-like graphics, less bulky, brighter screen, more features, and slightly improved battery life.
Cons: Fragile, still a little expensive, and can be better.

Apparently, the PSP is a great system with lots of optional features, better style, PS2-like graphics, and a bigger wide LCD screen for a portable device(not big enough to enjoy watching a movie, looking at the screen for a long time can damage the eyes). But I think in games, value, and quality-wise, the DS is far more superior than the PSP. The Sony PSP is by far the best(maybe the last) competitor to Nintendo in the handheld gaming market. I think that a successor to the PSP, not to be rude, a little ridiculous, because I don't think graphics and advanced technology could get any better for a slick handheld system after 3~5??? years from now. Plus, adding a hard drive to the PSP will make it way pricier, bulkier, and have lower battery life than the predecessor which is already too low for a portable device. I don't see the PSP as a must-own thing. If you already own a MP3 player like the iPod, a PS2, PS3, DVD player, and a GBA, etc. you probably do not need a Sony PSP(no offence: playing music and videos capabilities are not standard for the PSP). A small memory stick duo on the PSP costs more money. I am sure that in the near future (obviously due to the company's success in portable game systems), another possible Nintendo handheld device would have a bigger, wider, brighter screen, more "innovative" features, faster and more advanced graphics similar to that of GC (which is hopefully possible). And In comparison of the games: PSP has almost the same(UMD-disc miniature-version) games of the PS1 or the PS2. To be truthful, I am neither a Sony or Nintendo fanboy. Both the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS are absolutely terrific-quality, unique, successful, and well-planned systems compared to the mediocre Xboxes or the rushed, American-made, early-launched 360s at least. If you want an innovative handheld gaming system with decent graphics and fun games, the DS is better for you. The PSP is perfect for Playstation lovers and fans.
AGAIN, The multimedia system Sony PSP is mostly not worth it. Its fragile screen is too small to watch movies and it would hurt your precious eyes. Also the games are mostly poorer quality similar to those of the PlayStation 1 and 2 console. Yes, it plays movies and music. But, these bonus features of this system are limited and optional. Buying additional supportive things or accessories (memory card, games, UMDs, screen protector, etc.) for the still expensive PSP will cost much more money. Overall, this is an unnecessary portable gaming device in almost every degree.3 out of 7 users found this user opinion helpful.

Cons: The browser is a little slow and no physical keyboard, however it is made for gaming.

Summary: got this system, in 2008. I had always loved my PS2, and used it a lot, and sorta missed playing it when I was traveling. So this was a good alternative. This is able to be paired with a PS3, and play games off of that, however now that I have an XBOX360, that feature is sort of unusable. I use it for a lot of gaming, and the battery has still pretty good charge. I've used it for heavy web usages, and before my iPhone, this was the thing I used the most for the web
The only complaint,. I can think of, is that there is no actual physical keyboard, when browsing, or entering stuff on a game, which means you have to keep tapping the x and scrolling to different letters to find the letter you want, this takes awhile, I mean imagine if you were typing an email? I'd done that once on it and it was so hard, I didn't want to type on it, again but still did. It also can get a bit cramped keypad, being that when I was using it, and fast controlling of a game, and intenser it got, my hands hurt LOL.
I know my complaints are geared towards web browsing, and that really isn't a complaint, because well, it's a game console, it's not made for heavy web browsing, it's a nice feature to have, but it's not there for heavy use. It is an excellent system -

Skin/Case for PSP

Summary: The Joy System Skin Case is not really a skin and not really a case, but a hard shell that's designed to be put on and left on. It's relatively easy to take it off again. Once in place the case is surprisingly durable and does a good job of keeping the PSP's shiny finish scratch-free. All of the ports, lights and buttons are easily accessible due to spaces left open in the case's design. The unit I bought was red with the RF finish that doesn't take fingerprints and looks pretty cool. The System Skin Case is also available in a variety of other colors, both matte and metallic, so there's probably something to suit everyone's taste. You have to add some kind of screen protector, though, as this case doesn't cover the screen at all. Over all the design is superb, since I have the metallic blue PSP it looks great with the red skin.

Excellent buy.
by SinisterPwn on September 3, 2008
Pros: Music capabilities, video capabilities, gaming capabilities, photo/picture capabilities, customization, joy stick, good layout, nice look to it. Thin, carrying capable.
Cons: The joystick is awkwardly placed and takes sometime to get used to. Some video game control can be odd (not many). Memory is very overpriced.

Summary: Personally i think the PSP is way better than the alternate ipod classic. The PSP not only has video, audio, and pictures, but also has gaming. You may think its sacrificed as being bigger and less portable then the ipod but thats not true. With the new release of the PSP 2000, it is very portable (can fit in a pocket even with case) and more durable. Also the PSP is very farely priced. Most stores like futureshop will even throw in 2 free games with the PSP. it ranges from $160 to $200.

Awesome, but not the psp2 were looking for...
by DAVEZGRADEN on September 2, 2008
Pros: Great graphics and gameplay, list of features rock, and most people don't now this but easily hackable for extra weird features.
Cons: Volume is low, fixed by headphones. Loading times are bad. Can be a little more confusing than most people would like.
Summary: Psp is an amazing system and has the power something from sony should. The games are great, my favorites FF7-CC and Patapon. If you put videos on it they work ...
Summary: Psp is an amazing system and has the power something from sony should. The games are great, my favorites FF7-CC and Patapon. If you put videos on it they work great and look awesome. Plus ps3's double the fun. Reflection does bother me and finger prints convinced me to get the silver psp. Volume sucks but headphones make up for it. BTW if anyone has one and reads this i'll be showing some of hacks on youtube. My name is DAVEZGRADEN. but if there are none wait for them...
