2009 BMW Z4 sDrive35i price range: $51,650.00

The good: BMW packs a lot of tech into the 2010 BMW Z4 sDrive35i, with a twin clutch transmission, twin turbo six-cylinder engine, and three mode suspension, resulting in spectacular performance. Cabin tech includes a stellar premium audio system, iPod integration, and HD radio. The navigation system has very good-looking maps and route guidance that avoids traffic jams.
The bad: The iDrive interface, although improved from earlier versions, is still not the most intuitive. Trunk space is compromised by the convertible hard top.
The bottom line: The 2010 BMW Z4 sDrive35i delivers incredible driving performance while incorporating practical cabin gadgets to inform and entertain.

The Perfect roadster
by rsparmar1 on June 25, 2011
Pros: Great jaw dropping style, excelent sport performance, luxury of BMW ammenities, Hard top is very nice
Cons: Cup holders are stupidly small and poorly located. I often spill my drink trying to get to it. The optional attachable cup holder is a better postion but it take some leg room away from passenger and it too is stupid small in diameter. Cant fit a large

Summary: For around 60k$ you really do get the best sports, luxury, style, 2 seat convertible on the market. I rec you get the 35i vs the 30s. THe 35i twin turbo makes a big noticilbe performance upgrade to give you a great sports enthusiast feel for a convertible. The few thousand $ is well worth the performance improvment and overall enjoyment of the car. The 0-60 speeds are exilharing as is the handling. The look and style is jaw dropping. This car is noticed far away and gets a lot of attention. The hard top is a huge plus. When the top is up you forget you are driving a converitble, you feel like your in a sedan, very little road noise, very secure feel in the cabin, normal views out the back window and side rear windows, no ""converitble" blind spots. Putting the top up or down while in public is also a huge show stopper, watching the top go up or down is "transformer" like with the panels moving around. The cabin is very spacious with driver and passanger having a lot of arm and leg room and passanger able to recline the seat somewhat (given no back seats) by moving seat toward dash and then reclining back some (wife able to take a nap as a passenger). Comfortalbe seats and suspension on long trips, no back aches or butt aches after getting out of car. Upgrade audio system is good, not great (dont think there is a subwoffer?), ipod and usb options are easy to use when driving and a nice touch. There are faster or more luxurious cars on the market in this price range but you cant get the combo off all of it put together as nicely as the z4 is packaged. It is a show stopping sexy, fun car.

Beatiful, Safe, and Fast
by shasshi27 on December 10, 2009
Pros: BMW finally got this car right after the 2nd gen car ruined (IMO) the original line of the Z3. The new Z4 is solid and I love. I oculd not stop grinning. The top is a technological marvel.
Cons: Storgae space but if you need space buy a 3 series.
Summary: If you don't like this car you haven't driven it.

LOVE my new car!
by MzLiberty on September 22, 2009
Pros: This car is so much fun to drive! The handling is great. I took mine to the track for the first time last week and had a blast. Everyone looks at me when I'm driving around. They are all smiling, just like me!
Cons: The only cons are some optional features that didn't come in mine.
Summary: Totally worth the payments!

Outstanding performance and design
by asknreceive1 on August 22, 2009
Pros: Sport options, engine power, agility, physical appearance, hard top is a huge bonus
Cons: The only design issue relates to the cup holders being inside the middle console, This issue can be overcome by adding the option cup holder that has a port already installed on the passenger side of the middle console. Works for me!
Summary: This is my third BMW purchase. Two of those cars were Z-4 models. I have had nothing but positive experiences both in performance and in service. It's all good!

Super Roadster, not in the spirit of the classics (Z3)
by roadsterlover on August 9, 2009
Pros: Beautiful Beautiful lines; Much improved over the overdone original Z4; Romping power; DC tranny is the best of both worlds (manual/auto); Manual clutch drivers in heavy stop-n-go know what I mean. Amazing cabin tech (excluding iDrive of course!)
Cons: It's lost the spirit of the Z3 M Roadster. It's heavy, big, long, and tall. It's overdone in monument to overdoneness. The M was a classic Euro roadster, simple beautiful lines, gauges, and interior. You have to buy a MINI to get that now.
Summary: I'm conflicted. I'm keeping my M Roadster but lusting over the new Z4. I'm buying it ASAP. My M Roadster will be garaged and saved until the ...
Summary: I'm conflicted. I'm keeping my M Roadster but lusting over the new Z4. I'm buying it ASAP. My M Roadster will be garaged and saved until the day it to becomes a long lost classic, driven occasionally for the moments I'm feeling nostalgic. Hopefully, I'll sell it for millions on the lawns of Pebble Beach (Ok, one can dream)!
BMW built a beautiful car with the Z4, leaving forever behind the days of the classic european roadster. The technology under the hood and in the cabin makes this car a techno lovers dream. There's more than enough stuff to impress your friends.
The Z3 had the classic roadster lines. The original Z4 was a horribly tortured design. I could never get over the excessively curvaceous trunk lid. The best way to describe flame surfacing is flame broiling, it always comes out overdone.
The new Z4 brings back smoothness and flow to the exterior harking back to the classics. There are still just enough tortured lines to remind you it's the follow-up to the original Z4.
Cabin interior brings a sense of luxury to the roadster, further distancing itself from the classics and heading into the territory occupied by the overdone Jaguars and Benzs. The Z4 is growing up. No longer the domain of the roadster lovers, it's now the car for the wealthy urban professional with an image to keep, a symbol of arrival.
The BMW roadster's path is similar to the Mustang. It started out a small nimble car, but Detroit could only improve it by making it longer, wider, taller and heavier.
If only I could have all of the new Z4 packed into the classic M Roadster, I would be in heaven. -

Summary: The All-New Z4 compares favorably to cars costing two or three times as much. Once it is seen in person and driven you would think it is the new Z8, BMW's hand built $140k roadster. It is an amazing accomplisment. The exterior is exquisite, the interior is gorgeous, and the drive is sublime. Even the engine has won "International Engine of the Year" two years in a row. The Z4 is perfection from the inside out!

Cons: Big bucks in this economy; too small to resist an SUV hit

Not in the spirit of the Z3...
by ikramerica--2008 on August 8, 2009
Pros: Overkill performance, high tech.
Cons: Ridiculous price, takes the simplicity completely out of the original Z3 concept.

Summary: Having owned two Z3s, I am just not impressed by the Z4s since then. This one is no different. My first Z3 has a 4-cyl and was underpowered. I fixed that by trading in for the 2.8L straight 6, which had more power than the car could handle, which is the true idea behind these tiny roadsters. I could drift and fishtail to my heart's content, and the driving experience was a joy. And the cloth top meant that storage in the trunk was manageable, if not spacious. It was enough for my friend and I to drive around the country. We had to pack a little light, but we even brought a basketball. And there was no tech inside. Just amber gauges and a crappy radio (I replaced that with a better one with amp and sub and upgraded speakers).
Fast forward to now. Twin turbos. Seriously? hard top that eats up the trunk. Horrible. So much tech inside you forget this car was once about the shear act of driving fast with the top down. I know it's a quality drive, but it's lost it's soul. It's now simply a really expensive toy, almost twice the price of the 2.8 I bought only 10 years ago, and not as fun or usable. I guess the writing was on the wall that BMW wasn't going to leave well enough alone when they put out the MZ3, but oh well.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Cute llittle Roadster
by HOKE on August 6, 2009
Pros: Cute little car.
Cons: Too small for grown men.
Summary: In Germany they call the Z4 a "Girlie" car.
Real men drive the BMW M3, M5 or M6, all with loads of muscle. And stick-shift is
of course mandatory.

Summary: Unless you are the top 5% of households, you will never have the means to own one, and even if you make that much income, you should have more of a head on you than to blow $48k on a convertible with questionable safety and reliability. Not to mention the insurance costs.
To top it off, a vehicle of this small size, with a V6 should get far better mileage than it does on the highway. Sure, CNET editors may get a kick out of driving it around, but honestly, less than 1% of CNET readers would buy a car this expensive, making you wonder why they would review a car most of their readers will never buy - advertising dollars perhaps?1 out of 8 users found this user opinion helpful.
