The good: The 2012 Hyundai Veloster features a unique asymmetrical design that's bound to stand out from the crowd. Hyundai's BlueLink telematics system gives drivers access to a variety of connected services. Standard and upgraded cabin tech packages have been upgraded for this new model.
The bad: Power delivery is poor. Menu system borders on being too complex.
The bottom line: The 2012 Hyundai Veloster's wimpy engine can't back up its sports-car looks. Fortunately, there's plenty of good cabin tech to keep drivers and passengers entertained.

Great Fuel Efficient Car with Style and Features
by www.arthursiew.com on December 24, 2011
Pros: Exterior styling, exterior color selection, fuel economy, cabin comfort, interior quality, strong and long list of standard features, third door, hatchback, dual clutch transmission, potential of Bluelink, car handling
Cons: Not exactly fast (still does the job), auto up/down windows not standard, automatic headlights not available, glove compartment lights not available, option packages are expensive ($2000 each), car a little short for taller people
Summary: The Hyundai Veloster's look does not reflect on how the engine actually performs. That's not to say that the engine is terrible due to the high fuel efficiency. ...
Summary: The Hyundai Veloster's look does not reflect on how the engine actually performs. That's not to say that the engine is terrible due to the high fuel efficiency. The Veloster is mainly intended for daily commute while saving gas and money without sacrificing the exterior styling. Unexpectedly, the interior quality also is on par with the exterior quality. The Veloster offers a long list of standard features including a touch screen which is normally not included with any car of this class. I am happy with the vehicle so far as it has performed well for gas saving. I chose the Veloster mainly due to the high fuel economy, exterior styling, interior quality, and the standard features. I will not recommend this vehicle for the car enthusiasts who crave for a power engine. If you are searching for a gas-saving car that looks good and offers good standard features and options, this is for you.

It could have been a contender

Pros: Looks,warranty, nice 6 speed
Cons: Bluelink , edr, pitiful engine, no homelink option, MPG not as advertised, no spare tire

Summary: The car is nicely styled, with a bunch of tech goodies that if your over 15 years old, you don't need. Face book or any other social networking has no place in a car. Privacy issues aside, this idea that we need to be constantly umbilical corded to the internet is a joke and this car is the butt of it The car is severly under powered and that would be fine if the gas mileage reflected that but it doesnt Drive interstates at 70 and you get 33.2 , nowhere near the 40 hwy the sticker says. Hyundai needs to learn if you advertise something in todays market, you;d better deliver . This car doesn't. Get past the looks and you get a psuedo econo box with some gadgets thrown in to hide the flaws. Make sure you test drive it on highway and read the fine print on the disclaimer before you sign up for Bluelink.

Amazing Bang for the Buck.
by TheLeopardz on May 10, 2012
Pros: Stylish looks, great tech package, comfortable and user-friendly interior, tremendous value.
Cons: Rides a littler harder than I'd prefer, 18" wheels means one pothole could dent your rim.

Summary: This car has to be judged by what it was designed to be, not by comparing it to vehicles in a different category. No, it's not a muscle car, but then it was never designed for that. Dollar for dollar, I don't know of any car that beats it in the compact, sporty, techy car category. I considered the Lexus CT200 and the Honda CRZ, but they both lug around heavy, expensive batteries and the Veloster matches their mileage, beats their technology, and comes in for less money. I considered the Mini Cooper and the Honda Civic as well.
I leased a new Veloster with both the Style and Tech packages and I haven't been disappointed in any way. This car is a blast to drive, and the sound system is amazing (I've owned two, brand new luxury cars with high-end audio systems and I've worked as a professional musician as well). They cut out things you don't need (they give you a tire seal kit instead of a spare tire, but then I've never needed one in my entire life), and no programmable garage door button (I don't need one anyway). Instead, they load up with things you want, from contoured seats to great technology and a fun drive.
I've heard the complaint that there's too much in the tech package, but I disagree. They're simply tools in the toolbox that, once you know what they do, come in handy for everything. After five weeks of ownership, it's all second nature to me to quickly click what I want or need. The Pandora option is wonderful and I use it all the time.
On bumpy roads you'll feel it, but I understand that they wanted a suspension sporty enough to hang the road on smooth, curvy roads, and it does this well. I would have preferred it a touch softer, though.
All in all, no regrets. I love this car. There's a turbo coming, but people will have to judge if they're willing to shell out the extra cash for the horsepower. I think a lot of people who talk about how much they may want it will still opt for the standard engine because it keeps the car within the range of affordability. -

Think of it as a sexier Hyundai Accent SE.
by Toby_Michael on January 7, 2012
Pros: Passenger Space (Front at least); large touchscreen; styling; fuel economy; just quirky enough.
Cons: Perception of higher performance based on style (pro or con depending on who you are); Packages rather than more stand alone options. I don't WANT a sunroof...really!
Summary: There's a turbo coming so if that's the itch you need scratched, hold on a bit. Otherwise take this for what it is; a cooler, hotter, techier (I ...
Summary: There's a turbo coming so if that's the itch you need scratched, hold on a bit. Otherwise take this for what it is; a cooler, hotter, techier (I know that's not a word) and sexier Hyundai Accent SE. It's a small economy car at this point. If it bothers you that it can't "back up the style with performance" see the note above about the turbo. It's a well rounded car for someone like myself that needs an economical commuter car but doesn't want it to look like it.
With local dealer discount on the Veloster but NOT the Accent, the base Veloster was actually cheaper!
