- The 17-inch iMac is missing a few features you might like--SuperDrive and a remote control, to name two--but it still makes a stellar home PC, thanks to its great design, new Core 2 Duo processor, and superior software bundle. Plus, its price makes it a borderline budget PC.

best choice if moving from Windows=-8

Pros: slick, powerful, fast, stable
Cons: CD access a little awkward, and could use ...a handle?

Summary: Out of the box and up and running in a couple of minutes. Mac's touted stability is no longer a myth; it is. Very. Getting familiar with the menus will be a slight challenge to PC-ers. And the iMac used to come with Claris Works (now Apple Works) installed, but alas, no longer. A trial version of Pages is installed, though. I ordered Apple Works and will use it untill more goodies are added to iWork.
The machine is what I would like to call a "Semi- Portable", were it not for a lack of a handle, it's that compact. I love Airport, it's main wireless interface.
It comes equipped with a beta of BootCamp for using Windows OS, but I bought Parllells, and use it instead. Comparing WinXP running along with Mac OSX is very enlightening: Mac OSx is incredibly stable in comparison. The iMac "just does it", while XP constantly wiggles and waggles on the screen.
If you're thinking of switching, and still want to keep your Widows software, then iMac is the way to go.4 out of 4 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: After 15 years as a Windows user, I finally got so fed up with the instability that I made the switch. I have the 2.0 ghz model, and I am thrilled. It lives up to its billing - it almost lives up to the bragging of the mac addicts. Great system.

Summary: It may be that I have the 2.83 ghz but I love just about everything about the imac 17 inch cept for the hard disk. Its too small I edit videos so I ran out of space real fast. And you can upgrade to a larger disk Im going to have to get an external HD.

Very good, and I am hoping it will get better

Pros: the operating system The software that comes with it The built in isight, CAN USE XP AND OSX
Cons: Many software problems due to intel like expensive adobe creative suite, many other educational programs I bought that will not work either, learning curve for pc users

Summary: I needed to buy a new computer for my home and with vista computer specs I ended up getting the 2.0 with a 128 graphics card and 1gb of memory. The price is close and I get both operating systems. I use a mac laptop and my kids love it. We use both operating systems depending on the software. However, my kids love the mac side and make their own movies with the isight.
Even with the cons, I have a computer that can crossover when I need it to use software only for windows. This is important, because there is a lot of educational software I bought which said pc and mac, but it doesn't work with this mac.
Also, there is a learning curve for the new software.
To end on a positive note, because the intel mac offers the best and worst of both worlds, it is well worth it. If you have a creative child that wants to create, the preinstalled programs are great.
I am writing this review as the average xp part convert with a lot to learn. I don't like mac addicts because they are not honest because the computer does freeze, etc. but the computer is a step above xp in my view and worth a 9 rating1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is the best computer purchase I ever made. The set up is so easy it is amazing. The initial walk through did everything. Mine is fairly well loaded and it does all i need. The only negative I can say is it needs more USB ports. This is not unique to Apple, nobody put enough in these days.

Great color and resolution, out of the box! I love the easiness of it all, just simple design inside and out.

Summary: Cent has listed some incorrect information on the Apple iMac Core 2 Duo. The Apple iMac is actually upgradable to include a superdrive if you wish to have that and the Apple iMac DOES include a remote control. I just thought all you people out there researching computers should have the correct information. Have a wonderful day! Also when compared to computers with the same features... the Apple computers come out to be cheaper in the long run!! You also do not have to pay for someone to come in and fix the computer as often as you do with a Windows computer.

Really happy with my first mac

Summary: This is my first mac and I have had it for over a year. As soon as I got it I started playing with all the cool stuff it comes with. It got me interested in film making and web design and more than just playing games on computers. It is a much better OS than windows but it NEEDS A LOT OF RAM. I have 512MB and that has slowed me down alot and I'm sure I would have enjoyed it if I had more than 1GB of ram.

Yea great machine for being the budget one. Much faster still then a g5. Great performance for work school and light games. Like classics. If you are a photo editor then this is not for you at all. If you are a high end graphic gamer then this is for sure not for you. If you want a good machine for work then this is a great deal. Herre are some of the downfalls though. No remote included. No bluetooth. 512 ram instead off a gig included. The ability to max the system out at 2 gigs instead of 3. There are downs but even though there are for my needs it fits them fine.

- Part number: MA710LL/A
- Description: iMac has always made it fast and easy to do the most amazing things. Now the fast and easy part literally doubles overnight - because the newest iMac computers are powered by the Intel Core Duo. This revolutionary bit of technology is actually two processors built into a single chip, giving iMac up to twice the horsepower it had previously. So the wows will come faster than ever before. More than an evolution of processor design, Intel Core Duo is an order-of-magnitude leap forward. It's the first Intel chip born of the new 65-nanometer process, which allows for the creation of transistors so small, you could fit a hundred inside a single human cell. With two powerful processors designed to share resources and circuitry so unimaginably small, Intel Core Duo achieves far higher levels of performance while actually consuming less power. In the world of iMac, nothing is complicated - even when the internal architecture advances so dramatically. So when it comes to running software on your Intel-based iMac, prepare for the expected: it just works. Applications with the Universal symbol run on either PowerPC- or Intel-based iMac computers. Most existing applications will run on your Intel-based iMac, too. Simply launch them as always. Thanks to the Rosetta technology in Mac OS X, they look and feel just like they did before.
