One hell of a machine
by spankbot on January 22, 2008
Pros: Super fast, extremely upgradable, super quiet, It's also a kill Windows machine
Cons: You pay a slight premium for Apple brand, but not as much as it used to be.

Summary: I've never had a machine this fast and this flexible. Photoshop and Final Cut have never been this sublime to use. What used to take 45 minutes on my tired P4 3.2ghz now takes 5 minutes. I have a separate Windows partition that I use with Boot Camp and I can report that this is a killer Windows computer too.

The best PC we have ever owned is a Mac!

Summary: We own 4 Dell workstations that run vista 64, and so far the Mac Pro running the same version of Vista outperforms all of the Dells. I am an old school Windows guy, but today I have decided to replace all of our future Dells with MacPro's. Why not buy a PC that runs multiple OSes and cost less than the Dell workstations which cost up to 8k a piece and only run one popular OS.(Iknow the Dell can run linux, but the majority of the world uses some flavor of Windows.)
This machine is a true work of art, it is quiet, powerful, and simple to service. Adding Hard drives is so easy it literally takes less than a munite per drive. Adding Ram is also very simple, definitely no screw driver or small hands necessary. The MacPro also has a nice assortment of ports including DUAL lans and optical audio ports. It also comes with dual Firewire 800 ports and the standard usb 2 and firewire 400. Bluetooth 2.0 works on both OSes very reliably.
We run Solidworks for CAD/CAM modeling which is a very processor intensive program. On average we have found that our render times have been cut in half.
This is the low end MacPro we're talking about here. We took it home for $3194.00, and it is outperforming a Dell workstation we purchased 2 months ago and cost $5,000 more! $8,236.00 to be exact.
For 5k more I can put a RAID card and some extra hard drives and still not be up to the price of the Dell.
The dirver set included with Leopard (BOOTCAMP) is amazingly smooth. This is no emulation program. This is a full featured driver set wich lets windows wether it be XP or Vista 32 or 64 run natively and use the full power of the hardware.
I am thoroughly impressed.
As for cons people usually mention price, but as you've read previously, there is no comparison for the product that Apple delivers.

My 2003 pc is faster then this piece of junk.
by hardorslow on June 2, 2009
Pros: I liked it when i bought it, looks great.
Cons: SLOW
Hanging
Memory errors
Extended support worthless
Only call in support, no email, only for people with time
Slower then my 2003 cheap PC
Blank screens
Does not shut down, without pulling the powercord
Not every USB port works
Extremely heavySummary: I assume i have a bad product, however my 2003 cheap PC is faster then this $3000,-- plus machine.

I want to like Apple and bought this machine to replace my PC for dreamweaver, editing and bought final cut pro with it. Wow, what a nightmare.
From the moment i bought it, it hangs, when turning on the power a blank screen shows up. Does not shut down, have to unplug the cable. One memory bank does not work.
VERY slow, hanging, Faulty RAM, extremely bad support (you only can call, they will not pick up the machine, the most arrogant ever, will not email)
I assume that this is a faulty product, however Apple does not do anything about it. I purchased extended warranty, but no luck.
We where about to replace all corporate PC's with Mac's and all phones with Iphones. However, after the non-existing support (Including an arrogant prick) i guess not. And yes, try to carry a 30+ pound machine back and forth to a retail store, with no technical guys available.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: This is an awesome system for all types of media. Just today I was editing a video in Premiere, while at the same time I had Bridge, Photoshop, and After Effects running projects as well. There was barely a noticeable slowdown. It has been really hard to find many cons about this system. This is my first full blown Mac and after using this machine I am glad it was my first. This thing screams at doing everything. When they start really using those 8 cores to there full ability with future software this system will only get better.

The best desktop on the market
by jonathanlambert on September 8, 2008
Pros: Insane performance, quiet, knocked work that used to take 10 minutes down to 40 seconds. Can't say enough good things about this box, and I don't think I'll be buying anything else anytime soon for desktops.
This is what a Macbook Pro WANTS to be.Cons: The thing is sharp: I cut my finger to the bone replacing a hard drive. Slot loading drives which don't always line up with the drives. I put a 15k primary sata drive in, but it required me unscreweing the backplane and manually plugging it in.

Pros: The ultimate machine for video, audio, photos or any other cpu hungry type softwares. Vey easy to upgrade components (memory, dvd/blueray otical drive, snap in hard drives, no tools needed. Quiet!
Cons: Very heavy, but its a desktop I will not be moving it around

Summary: I upgraded from an Apple Dual 2.5ghz Power PC to the new 2008 8 core 2.8GHz I have added 10gb of memory, and have filled all 4 hard drive slots, with 500gb hard drives, 1 drive is is used for Windows XP because I do have a Windows Os type software. If you want a virtually quiet, reliable, computer that will be powerful enough to use for many years to come, and allows 32gb of memory and 4 Tb of hard drive space, this is the computer for you.

It's an amazing machine.
by bert3081 on February 26, 2009
Pros: Easy to upgrade, wide range expansion of the Ram, able to add three extra internal hard drives, Great air flow, and CPU Processors runs very cool.
Cons: As amazing as the machine, I wish it have more USB, firewire 400 and 800 ports.

Summary: I bought this Mac Pro, because I'm an graphic designer. When I work on any project, I normally run 2-5 applications at one time. Mac Pro is the perfect machine for this type of work. Although, it only comes with 2GB worth of Ram. I ended up adding 8GB (2 X 4GB module ? $275.90) worth or Ram. Now, I'm up to 10GB worth of Ram. Of course, as the time goes by, the Ram will become cheaper. I will add more Rams and Hard Drives to my Mac Pro. There's no slowing this machine down, well until you reach 32GB worth of ram. Then you just kinda stuck there, but no application in the market will ever use all 32GB worth of Ram.

Workstation Powerhouse.
by gpzjock on February 6, 2009
Pros: Huge expandability, virtually silent running, stable and reliable OS, rumored to prevent hairloss.
Cons: Heavy case, expensive to buy and expand to full potential, i7 chipped version in the pipeline I suspect.

Summary: Bought this beast a year ago to replace an aging iMac G5 which was getting slow at handling huge Photo Archives/Photoshop work. Added 8 gb of ram a 8800GT 512 mb GFX card and 1 TB of storage myself in 5 mins flat. The difference was spectacular, like running on mercury. Just bumped the RAM up to 16 gb yesterday for £150.
i7 CPU version Mac Pro has just been released, claims to be twice as fast due to hyperthreaded 8 cores behaving like 16 and DDR3 ram at higher clockspeeds.
Multitasking monster that does everything I want in the background while I play WoW on it! Rendering Video, recording TV, backing up and archiving whole drives as background to my new life of luxury..... awesome. How did I manage before.

- Description: Whether you're editing feature films or scoring them, composing symphonies or visualizing mass spectrometry analyzes, Mac Pro makes it easier than ever to create your personal dream machine: a powerful system that not only meets your needs today but, thanks to an ingeniously designed enclosure, expands easily to meet tomorrow's challenges as well. The easy-access interior of the Mac Pro feels like the well-organized workstation it is. No rat's nest of components here. You don't need to turn the system on its side or struggle to reach into awkward spaces to make changes. Just remove the side panel for instant access to everything. Slide out the processor tray to add memory. Slide out drive bays to add storage. Slide a simple bar to change up to four expansion cards at once. And with plenty of I/O ports both front and back, you'll have room for all your external devices. When it's time to upgrade, a quick slide of the retention bar frees up the four expansion card slots for easy access. Thanks to a thumbscrew PCI bracket, you can swap out cards without any tools. The Mac Pro comes with four drive bays for an enormous amount of internal storage. For faster access to your data, you can also configure your Mac Pro with up to four solid-state drives. The bays are direct-attach and cable free, so it's easy to add or remove drives. Just attach the drive carrier to a drive and slide the drive into place. There are no connectors or cables to contend with. Lock the drives with the side door latch, and you're done. Install more memory in your Mac Pro in a snap. Literally. The easy-access interior lets you slide out the processor tray in one smooth motion, then simply snap new memory into place. You don't have to dig around inside the computer or wrestle with wires or cables. The Mac Pro is built with a recyclable aluminum enclosure. Aluminum is very desirable to recyclers, which means the raw materials used in the Mac Pro can be reused in other products. Apple also simplified the internal design, replacing over 6 feet of cables with more material-efficient connectors that allow easy disassembly at end of life. In addition, one of the few remaining plastic assemblies in the Mac Pro is made from postconsumer recycled plastic.
