Ridiculously flawed product
by DogStar6502 on April 18, 2009
Pros: Theoretically a decent machine
Cons: It's been problematic since day one. See here (one of many, many threads) for list of known issues: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistaannouncements/thread/22a3f5f8-db7a-4583-ac47-c20c41cc3f48
Summary: This product should never been allowed onto the market. I wouldn't be surprised if a class-action wasn't mounted.

Pros: the specs for this comp is pretty good but my experience with this product SUCKED!

Summary: I had my hopes HIGH for this product because it was the first time getting an HP and all my friends told me how great HP's were. So I bought it on sep 28th and it broke four days later on oct 1st. I could just be one of the unluckiest people on the world and got a faulty product. In the end i returned it back to best buy and replaced it with the gateway FX 4710.

Rethinking HP
by billykrusade on March 6, 2011
Pros: On paper, it sounded great when I purchased it.
Cons: I have owned it for 2 agonizing years, spent hours with HP support, weeks "combined time" resetting factory default and reinstalling software. Endless time backing up my precious data. Now, worst than slow, I believe it kicked the bucket.
Summary: No help from its creator, HP. I am now seeking a replacement for this HP monster and avoid HP PC's at all cost.

If it worked, it'd be great. Sadly, it does not.
by Mindina on September 9, 2010
Pros: Good specs, and on the days that it's not crashing insanely, it works with no problems.
Cons: Glitchy, crashy, everything you can think of. Right now it's to the point where it crashes five minutes after you turn it on. We've asked many people to fix it, and they all tried and failed. I am ashamed to own this computer.
Summary: While I would love this computer to death if it didn't crash all the time, I would never recommend it. When we first got it, we had to trade ...
Summary: While I would love this computer to death if it didn't crash all the time, I would never recommend it. When we first got it, we had to trade it in three times because the first ones didn't work at all. When we finally got it working, it only lasted a few weeks before it started to crash and stuff again. And now it's to the point where it will crash five minute after you turn it on. Whether it's blue screens or freezes, there is no way you'll get anything done on this computer. Ever. Too bad this computer is so faulty... The specs are actually decent.
Please, I beg you, don't buy this computer. The frustration will drive you crazy. Literally. -
Horrible computer does not work always iin for repairs
by susan5624 on August 5, 2009
Pros: There is not a pro comment
Cons: do not waste your money. No customer service with HP. Lack of intergrity from HP, will not back the product or warranty.

Summary: Heats up, freezes up, black screen, white screen -- Horrible Horrible computer. Do not waste your $1100.00 of dollars. No functionality whatsoever. How can one determine the function of a computer that does not work or has never worked. And HP refuses to stand behind the product or admits there is a problem.

Do not buy it!!!
by angel01_e on June 11, 2009
Pros: Should be great based on the specifications...
Cons: But does not work. Every few days slows down until you can not do absolutely anything except reset factory setting from DVD. Then it works great... for a few days, until it slows down again.
Summary: Customer service was not helpfull at all. Buying this computer is a sure ticket for insanity!

Does what its supposed to do!
by tandskiman on January 26, 2009
Pros: Great components, large HD, good video card, great processor, runs quick, integrated infrared sensor, TV tuner. Everything works smoothly.
Cons: All the HP crap that is loaded on it. Heats up quickly, probably need to put in a stronger power supply.
Summary: For the price ($620 at ecost.com) I couldn't find a better computer. It has done everything I asked it to. It does heat up and the wires/components ...
Summary: For the price ($620 at ecost.com) I couldn't find a better computer. It has done everything I asked it to. It does heat up and the wires/components are definitely packed in the case, but as long as you keep the back clear it should stay at a workable temperature. But, for those concerned about it, buy a new power supply and CPU fan/heatsink.

Great computer; poorly built.
by yoftheg on January 13, 2009
Pros: Speed, ease of set-up, and flawless graphics.
Cons: Power supply inadequate. Needs better air flow. 3.5" drive bay for plug in drive is rendered obsolete with the size and price of external drives dropping dramatically. To have to use an HP drive at higher cost is not ideal.

Summary: Hated spending this kind of money on a system that I had to troubleshoot myself since the techs in India or whatever foreign country they are in wanted me to box it up and send it in for more thorough testing.
I have 20+ years electronics systems maintenance background in the USAF.
Best Buy (where I purchased) wanted to charge me to verify, but for less than that charge I bought a Thermaltake TR2 RX 550W dual 12V rail power supply with no problems since installation. Needless to say the extra $125 I had to spend on a beefier power supply was quite disappointing for what I have come to expect from HP. My ZD7010US laptop has lasted without problem for 6 years now.
The case lacks sufficient space for air flow for this processor and the standard power supply seems to not help by dumping heat into the case rather than try to move it out. I am engineering a mount for a 120mm Thermaltake fan, but this is more than the average buyer should have to or will want to deal with.
I hate to say it, but this is probably not the computer system you are looking for. -
I've had alot of desktops & laptops this one's the best
by WATERHAMMER on January 5, 2009
Pros: This CPU is super fast with loads of prosessor power, tons of memory and a huge hard drive.best part is amazing graphics,
Cons: None so far it runs like a champ, it did take about 20 min to get the digital cable hooked up correctly the instructins are a little vague on that..

Summary: If you do graphic design or play video games online or standerd you will be amazed by the graphics of this computer. Online games/mmo like disneys pirtes or world of warcraft look beautiful and experiences no lagg. the unit has tons of memory, prosessing power, duel layer light scribe and a monster hard drive. Even drawing, drafting tablets like bamboo work great on this computer. you can't beat the power at your finger tips for the price. Reg $899-1,199.00, Which I would have happly paid but fortunatly I got mine for $587.00 new in box at circurt city they are all closing in Georgia so keep an eye out to find the best deal. By far for work or play the best computer i've owned and i've had a lot...

Biggest technology leap I've ever experienced
by antigravity4me on November 27, 2008
Pros: Vista, imbedded HP software, quiet case, HDMI compatible, TV tuner, FM tuner, DVR, fast graphics card, seemless operation between all these things!
Cons: The power button on the top of the case. I've accidentally shut the system down a couple times by placing my foot on it. I just have to get used to this change in location. You have to get a digital TV antenna before listening to radio.

Summary: My last computer was a five year old Dell. When the fourth motherboard went about a month ago, I began my search for a replacement computer. The more I searched, the more confused I became. Cnet is biased against Home Theater PC because it doesn't think it practical to have a central home computer that is also attached to a living room HDTV and surround sound. This was exactly what I wanted and this system is going to be perfect for that configuration. Considering the many choices out there and the number of systems built specifically for this work, you would think Cnet would get up to date and realize the posiitve aspects of HTPC. My computer room/home office is directly behind my fireplace and HDTV living room. I have a monitor in my office and HDTV in my living room, both hooked directly to this PC. It works great. I cancelled cable November 5th. With the election over there was simply nothing left to watch other than commercials. I've got ten times the options available to me now. It's free and for the most part, commercial free as well. I don't sit and accept what is on the screen. I can now go out and find programming I'm interested in. If I ever decide to go back to cable or dish, I've got a free DVR and don't need to spend 10.00 a month for it. I've loaded tons of software over the last week. I've gotten deep into programs and Vista. Not one ctrl/alt/delete, restart or freeze of any kind. I've never seen anything like it. This machines software works seemlessly together and Vista has been working great. I think some of the angst against Vista is due to having to relearn things that had become instinctive. That is tough but I think this OS offers more than XP. I've had a few computers over the years. I've operated many computers at work. I teach in a drafting lab. I've never made the leap in technology that I have made with this computer over the last week. This system is truly the next generation in technology. I purchased online through Circuit City. Now is the time to buy with 0% financing for 24 months. I received the machine maybe 4 days after ordering. I'll eventually add a blu Ray or buy an external unit. Blue Ray technology doesn't seem to be finalized yet so I'm not sure. Other than the small negative about the power button, I can't think of anything I dislike about this computer. This is an incredible machine at a great price.
Well, the system is a couple months old now and I have found some problems. I keep losing center channel on my surround sound. It's really weird, movie sounds such as squeeling tires and passing cars come through to speakers but no voice audio. I've talked with HP tech support. The only solution after about three hours was to delete the sound card and restart. The system rebooted, reloaded software and worked fine after this but it has happened two or three times since then and the last time I tried a restart, the center channel did not return. It's not my surround sound, it is the computer and I think it is due to not having direct HDMI output and having to use an adapter on my HDMI cable. The computer is very fast and streaming audio works great. I'm hoping to get this issue resolved either through HP, a new card with HDMI output, or maybe with just a different cable system. I just have to find the time to research and do it, which is a hassle.
