- Bottom Line:
- If HP's TouchSmart 600 won't at least get you thinking about the idea of bringing a PC into your kitchen, the concept truly has no hope. With well-thought-out touch apps, a wide, easy-to-use array of digital media features, and an attractive, flexible design, HP's new all-in-one is not the fastest new all-in-one, but it has the most comprehensive and compelling set of features of any all-in-one launching alongside Windows 7.

The good: Matches Sony in capability to connect and switch between external video sources easily; Recipe Box touch program best kitchen app we've seen; smart touch app partnerships with Hulu, Twitter, and Netflix; loud enough to fill a room.
The bad: Slow performance; touch input suffers from occasional unresponsiveness.

Amazing and different PC
by Kamikidd on May 31, 2011
Pros: I love the touchscreen and special "touch" software.
Cons: I have had a few problems that I have had to research to fix; things that in my opinion should have been worked out in the testing phase of the software/hardware.
Summary: I would receommend this computer. I absoutely love it!

The computer failed. The issued are mentioned if you google "mouse jumps" in google or yahoo. HP will not acknowledge that or offer solutions. Customer support is poor and not willing to listen to the fixes you have tried. Unlike their competitors (dell as I buy 100k plus each year) they will not fix the product or offer any solutions. They kept me on hold 3 hours then hung up. Next time promised to call beck two days later no call back. I called them. They told me again I needed to wait another two day for a call back. I told them I needed a computer and they did not care. My system is just out of the 21 day return policy. BUYER BEWARE1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Awesome potential. Does not deliver.
by mommble on March 8, 2011
Pros: Nice footprint. Sleek interface for media storage and playback.
Cons: SLOW. Touch screen software is just useless and incredibly slow. The audio often goes out and comes back randomly for only the live television viewing until finally being permanently off. Digital Cable made the best features nonfunctional. ie DVR.
Summary: Avoid it until they work it out. there is too much nonsense bundled into a half put together box. The touchsmart software is way too slow and it often freezes. ...
Summary: Avoid it until they work it out. there is too much nonsense bundled into a half put together box. The touchsmart software is way too slow and it often freezes. Tech support for HP and this product is atrocious. The touchsmart promises so much. The TV tuner and wide screen lets you have a live tv box open in a corner while you use a net browser on the other half of the screen. the touchsmart delivers little functionality. Most of the cool live TV functions are useless now. Digital cable companies now require boxes on all televisions in the house. that prevents you from using this like a DVR that can schedule and change channels on its own for anything over channel 20. The audio fails for live TV. Every other function with audio works fine like playing a CD or watching a video on Youtube. ( Never could watch DVDs. not sure why and tech support never was able to help but took more pleasure in heckling but that's fine because I dont watch DVDs but dont try to burn a CD or DVD. It will take about half an hour to an hour after pressing start.
The touchsmart music library has a really nice look to it and navigating it is sweet but really slow to start up. The stereo sound is great but volume control is sometimes unstable. Sometimes it will just not be loud enough to hear on the other side of the room and other times it is loud enough to hear outside 50 feet away.
The SD slots and one USB shut down very soon after taking it out of the box but that is par for the course and an external USB and SD card port fixed that.
the keyboard and mouse ergonomically just work and look pretty sleek fitting just under the monitor and compliment the machines small footprint.
Would be perfect if audio did not kick out on the live TV. All else is forgivable.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: I have the Touchsmart 505 and the hard drive crashed. HP even has a warning on their website about these hard drives crashing if you don't update the firmware. But how would you know to go to their web site to check? Instead of doing a recall like a good manufacturer would do, they ignore the problem and say it isn't covered under warranty! They charge you upwards of $200 to give you a new hard drive and recovery discs. Shameful support by HP. There should be a class action process against them on these Touchsmart machines. I decided the HP was worth fixing and trying to sell for scrap. The biggest computer mistake I have ever made is buying this machine.

Will Never Buy From HP Again- HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

Pros: Streamlined look is very attractive, Sound is Good. Touchsmart Features were good until they stopped working properly
Cons: #1 Problem has been with HP's failure to resolve several problems with PC during its warranty period, including hardware probs involving my CD/DVD drive & a variety of hardware/software interface probs affecting Windows & Internet Explorer.

Summary: Would not ever recommend HP products due to the company's lack of customer support. I bought my customized Touchsmart 600-1005xt PC directly from HP in Nov on 2009. Between Jan & Oct of this year, I have had over twelve extended (and often frustrating) conversations with HP reps regarding numerous PC problems. What I have encountered is technical ignorance ( such as reps not knowing the difference between 32 & 64 bit systems); rudeness (such as overseas reps "accidently disconnecting" me twice); continuing failure by the company to resolve my issues despite two remote accesses in which "they" reinstalled" my NVDIA drivers & performed a system recovery; & most insulting of all, suggestions by 2 reps that I extend my warranty: if HP hasn't fixed my problems during my initial warranty - why would things change because I got an extension? Despite repeated requests from me (including complaints to the BBB), HP has refused to send a rep to my house, advising me that I am not entitled to such under my "warranty" - a warranty that is so vague that it is virtually impossible for a non-lawyer to understand its provisions. What I do understand, though, is that my PC problems have not been resolved via my numerous phone conversations with HP reps - & HP's only suggested resolution at this point is that I pack up my PC (& risk further damage) to send it to one of their service centers - where it will be "tested and subjected to a 2nd "system restore" . Had such a resolution been proposed after my 1st, 2nd, or 3rd conversation with a company rep, I might have been willing to explore such an option - but the fact that it took me 9 overseas conversations between Oct 26 - Nov 2 (spanning over 4 1/2 hrs) before my "case(s)" were even referred to the US Case Manager who "offered" me the option of shipping my PC so the company could do a physical inspection - was to me the antithesis of "customer service". Because my Touchsmart is still working (in a fashion), I will continue to use it until I get I can no longer stand to work "around" its on-going & ever-increasing pecularities. As for my 2 HP printers, however, I will be getting rid of them - & the accompanying "ink cartridge" costs which amount to a couple of hundred dollars to HP a year.

4 months after purchase often no sound on this system.
by Hawaiipawn on October 13, 2010
Pros: It is a big "23" screen, shiny and beautiful with niffty touchsmart features and a slim footprint.. The USB ports seem just enough for the printer, scanner, a back-up drive, a flash, and media peripherals. The nice webcam is VOIP ready!
Cons: From day 1 it was slow. The TV-tuner seemed to effect the sound which died after 30 mns of live TV . After a factory fix Windows Media Center couldn't see the tuner. After an in home fix, it still couldn't see it. But HP says, "we can fix it". Again!
Summary: It's a great space saver. I don't mind that there is nothing instant about it's performance. A little more speed might enhance the computing experience. I don'...
Summary: It's a great space saver. I don't mind that there is nothing instant about it's performance. A little more speed might enhance the computing experience. I don't game but I edit media semi-professionally so sometimes, time is money.
I liked that they try really hard to make sure you understand how to get the most out of the TouchSmart technology. There is some redundancy with a "Live-TV" function with-in the TouchSmart screen. The integrated productivity software functions well but it is stand alone. You can not minimize the TouchSmart screen while watching TV, or doing anything else, to access the operating system desktop. Windows 7 Media Center with it's full screen function and ability to shrink while using the desktop programs, is far more functional. Something else like a hand written bulletin board pad, could be substituted for Live-TV. I'd like the idea of scrawling a big message for the next user or memo to myself!
Alas, the system broke down after 4 months. The sound came and went at whim. That fixed, now the TV-tuner can't be found by the Windows Media Center, after two attempts to fix it. HP doesn't think that's weird and seems to be willing to let me keep sending it back, at least, until my warranty runs out. My last HP PC, rest it hearty CPU, lasted 10 years! This time I was hoping for at least five but have gotten zero!1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Had to purchase extended warranty for this piece o junk
by alyciakeating on March 19, 2012
Pros: nice big screen
Cons: fragile, temperamental, OS can't hold it's own and fails for no reason, search engine chooser won't let you choose google, directories get all messed up and confusing, permissions get screwed up, I could go on and on and on and on....

Summary: I am on the phone w/ tech support at least once every 2 weeks with this high maintenance, fragile, unstable piece of garbage. The CD/DVD drive had to be replaced. The new one does not work. Somehow, there are about 6 users (all me) on my computer and nothing saves to the correct location. I do not have permissions to make changes on my own machine. Carbonite downloads to the wrong places. My computer got stuck in a boot loop because it got stuck on an MS update and I tried shutting it down. I ended up having to reformat the first time. Upon redownloading everything from carbonite and reinstalling everything I had lost, I found even more users (all me) that I had no permissions to change. Help desk was helpful but really, I am not happy to have to call them every other week and spend hours on the phone with them. I tried rearranging my directories to make them make more sense, silly me, and ended up having to reformat once again last night. I never had any problems with my old Pavillion tower. I really regret having spent all that money on this piece of crap. On the one year anniversary of the purchase I felt I had no option but to pay another $179 for another year of tech support. I'll use it.

Pros: None - PC is only 1 year old and already crushed ... ran diagnostic today and it says SMART Short Self Test failed ... meaning my hard drive will fail soon.
Cons: The whole PC
