- Bottom Line:
- If HP's TouchSmart 600 won't at least get you thinking about the idea of bringing a PC into your kitchen, the concept truly has no hope. With well-thought-out touch apps, a wide, easy-to-use array of digital media features, and an attractive, flexible design, HP's new all-in-one is not the fastest new all-in-one, but it has the most comprehensive and compelling set of features of any all-in-one launching alongside Windows 7.

The good: Matches Sony in capability to connect and switch between external video sources easily; Recipe Box touch program best kitchen app we've seen; smart touch app partnerships with Hulu, Twitter, and Netflix; loud enough to fill a room.
The bad: Slow performance; touch input suffers from occasional unresponsiveness.

Very Confusing Review
by marcf1 on November 2, 2009
Pros: This appears to be a very attractive computer for the home user looking to step up to Windows 7 and interested in multi-media.
Cons: Its hard to tell from your review exactly what model you are reviewing or whether the reviewed model is the one to which the comparison shopping sites refer, thereby making shopping very difficult.
Summary: In your review of the "HP Touchsmart 600" you state that the "Touchsmart A6oo comes with a slot-loading Blu-Ray Drive". But when you click on any of the four comparison ...
Summary: In your review of the "HP Touchsmart 600" you state that the "Touchsmart A6oo comes with a slot-loading Blu-Ray Drive". But when you click on any of the four comparison shopping sites to purchase the computer, including the HP site, you are presented with the "HP Touchsmart 600t" which does not offer a Blu-Ray drive. To obtain the Blu-Ray option, you have to order the "HP Touchsmart 600xt" which is $200 more than the comparison prices you show for the reviewed computer. Additionally, your review makes no mention that at the HP site there are both cpu and hard drive upgrades available that would appear to take the HP up to a level closer to the new Sony Vaio L Series which you mention in the review. In summary, we read these reviews in conjunction with the comparison shopping information in order to make informed purchasing decisions. However, the lack of specificity in your review regarding what features are on what models, and the lack of coordination between the review and the comparison price sites, makes that selection process very confusing and difficult. Also, now that you have provided reviews of the new Gateway and HP all in one models, it would make sense to provide a review of the Sony Vaio L line (which is now available for purchase) asap so many readers can make a decision on which of these models best suits their needs.

I will never buy an HP again

Summary: I received the HP TouchSmart 600 delivered to my house in the last week of January 2011. I used it for the first time on Feb 27th, 2011, unfortunately was too late to return it. In the beginning it was slightly slow but two weeks later it started acting up in a way that every time it goes to the sleep mode, it will take between 15 -45 minutes to recover, it just freezes.
I called the technical support multiple times, spending 30-45 minutes every time with them with no success to fix the problem, then they recommended to try what they called "Recovery". After they did that, the computer became even worse in the sense that it freezes all the time.
I spent hours over the phone between the technical support, the case manager and one time with his supervisor, they refused to neither return it nor replace it. Finally they decided to take it back for a repair and promised me they will fix it. It took two weeks to be delivered back to me, supposedly the hard drive was changed. When the box arrived, I opened it, the computer was full of dust with mild superficial scratches that I really ignored and I just wanted a working and a usable computer that worth the $1833.79 that I paid for online, but it is still not functioning well and freezes all the time to the point that every time I want to use the computer, I need to reboot it first, even with that some times it doesn't recover. I called the case manager again who can only do one thing that is apologizing. He said "I feel your frustration but the policy is to repair not to replace and nothing else I could do". I had no choice other than to send back to the HP repair department.
I spent $1833.79 for the worst computer ever in addition to the enormous time that I wasted with useless and careless HP personnel from the technical support and the case management.
I am spending this time writing this review to warn those who are willing to deal with HP and recommend if they want to buy any HP product, it is better to buy from a store that has a good return policy.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

I love this computer!
by jnhertz on June 13, 2010
Pros: Easy to use, no tower, all in one PC. Looks great, i love windows 7, touch screen (though sometimes i turn it off). Lots of ports, but they are all hidden so that you can't see them. There are also 5 usb ports and a bunch of other stuff.
Cons: Sometimes the touchscreen will stop working, but i don't mind very much. Never really had any other problems with it....

Summary: I love this computer because it is easy to use and I think that it is very fast. Comes with an hp touchscreen program, but i don't like it very much because it can get non-responsive, but there's nothing that interests me too much in that program anyway. It is a very nicely done computer that looks sleek and very cool. I am very happy with it.
Also the speakers are amazing, the best speakers built in speakers i have ever seen.

Poor value for money. Should be in top of class for $$$
by Diony5u5 on March 26, 2010
Pros: 23" is perfect for home desk use
Can connect my Xbox360
Sound is good even without the use of external speakers
Almost silent (tried Sony VPCL11S1E/S first but fans were much too noisy)
Vesa wall moutings available out of the boxCons: Bit slow at times but not sure if this is Windows 7 or bloatware
HDMI input works but expected much, much better results. Tried to use as extended screen for laptop but results are dissapointing.
HP touch software is quite slow to start-upSummary: When can we have a iMac with HDMI Input?

Not happy with HP
by surfcojo on March 29, 2010
Pros: Overall the quality seems okay, but the performance is not what it should be for the money. The TouchSmart 600 is a big dissapointment. I recently also purchased a Gateway SX2840-01 for a lot less money and am very pleased with its performance.
Cons: Poor value for the money. There are much better values out there for the same money or less.
Summary: I'm done with HP products. I'm tired of getting ripped off by them. The Touchsmart is overpriced for its features and performance. I get mad every time I ...
Summary: I'm done with HP products. I'm tired of getting ripped off by them. The Touchsmart is overpriced for its features and performance. I get mad every time I buy an overpriced HP printer ink cartridge for $35 to $50. I recently bought my kids a Kodak printer for college use and everyones pretty happy with the switch away from the HP 1210.

Freezing everytime it wakes up from sleep.
by Sinoako on March 7, 2011
Pros: Nothing good to post!
Cons: SLOW AND FREEZES EVERYTIME IT WAKES UP! SLOW IN STARTING UP. TOO MANY BACKGROUND PROGRAM RUNNING FROM HP.

Summary: BIG MISTAKE!. This is the 2nd unit as the 1st HP could not figure out what was wrong and replaced it. Received new unit 12/23/10. Freezes everytime it sleeps. 3 calls to HP help center and still no solution. They finally want me to send this back and be without a computer for 3 to 4 WEEKS. While they fiddle with this problem. By the way had restored three times and then added my programs one at a time and test to see if it still hangs up and it did.
One time gave me a message "WINDOWS NOT RESPONDING!" Never in thirty years of computing did I ever get "WINDOWS NOT RESPONDING". Guess this would be the last HP product I ever buy. This is a PEICE OF JUNK!
DO NOT BUY IF YOU DO NOT LIKE PROBLEMS. FREEZING IS A PROBLEM. SEARCH AND YOU WILL FIND THE
SAME FREEZING PROBLEMS on other blogs.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Freezes and hangs multiple times per day
by dave72249 on January 11, 2011
Pros: all in one feature mnimizes desk footprint
Cons: Much slower than advertised, poor utilization of large display, frequently locks up making it virtually useless.
This is the second one, brand new to fail. You do not always get what you paid for.Summary: My old Pavillon XP combo works much better than this unit with 25% of the memory. I always thought that hangs were almost non-existent with HP , but this proves that ...
Summary: My old Pavillon XP combo works much better than this unit with 25% of the memory. I always thought that hangs were almost non-existent with HP , but this proves that they are not wrong about the recent Microsoft Windows 7 being bloated and frequently hanging with HP products.
I have had Windows Office completely disappear from the control panel and programs list for no apparent reason.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: The 600XT does everything it says it does. A flat out excellent multimedia PC that serves as a great family PC. Would recommend getting the top of the line processor and extra RAM. You can get the XT with a Blu Ray but it is not completely necessary as you can easily add one via a Playstation 3 or stand alone.

Very unsatisfied
by HPdoesnotdeliver on February 6, 2010
Pros: Excited at first but it didn't last long. Having no tower was a positive thing but HP did not stand behind the warranty and a local technician told us that things were so packed into the system that it burnt out the computer.
Cons: Don't buy this system unless you plan on buying another system in just a few months. HP will not stand behind the junk the sell in this system!
Summary: We purchased this computer on January 10 and received it January 23. HP decided to use the January 10 date for the beginning of the warranty because we called for ...

Biggest piece of crap ever. I'll never buy another HP
by sloefrog on June 11, 2011
Pros: looks pretty. when it's working the performance is good.
Cons: freezes every time it goes to sleep. EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL! Touchscreen is almost worthless unless you use a stylus.
Summary: Stay away from this machine. HP technical support and customer service are abysmal. Spend the extra on an Apple all-in-one and you won't be full of regret like me.
